How To Start 2014 - 2021 Mini Cooper With Dead Remote Key Fob Battery

A quick video tutorial on how to start a 2014 - 2020 Mini Cooper that has a dead remote key fob battery and won't start. You will need to hold the Mini Cooper remote key fob to the key icon on the steering column, then start the vehicle as you normally would.

What if my mini ID a 2011
got my mini started, but after switching off, it still does not work. I need to hold the fob to the steering column again to start the engine. Unlocking doors does not work, fob is dead although I changed batteries twice :-(

if you are sure the new batteries are good and installed properly, then then key fob may need to be replaced

@@PYR-Auto I don't dare tell you what happened ... but I will ;-) I had a mixed blister pack of batteries: CR2032 and CR2025, and I did not notice there were two different batteries. You probably already guessed, I inserted the wrong battery (CR2025) which is thinner than the 2032. It did not make good contact inside the FOB. Root cause ,issue solved ;-) Many thanks!
