Hi Tony, thanks very much for all the help here, great stuff. I am a "perfectionist" DIY'er, and have made hundreds of mistakes to get it right, and this has helped me immensely. The Iwata HTE 3 settings i havent got right untl i saw this. Also this use of of fast hardener and and thinner has fixed a lot of my issues.(more suited to our enviroment and hunidity here in the UK and Ireland, was advised never to use fast!). I just spray in my garage/workshop with a small extraction fan, use a hair dryer on the base coat and infrared lamp for the top coat.Just sprayed a black metallic on the full rear bumper of a skoda today, and the results were amazing. (just have to get rid of the dust nibs... but now have come to expect that, especially when spraying outdoors or in my garage and let go of trying to get it 100% right. I wet down everything before I start to reduce dust as much as possible). Would love to have a go in a proper booth one day. Again, thanks for all the help. Keep up the great work.

Great tutorial , again very well explained with a great result goes a long way to show that preparation and using the correct technique is the most important aspect rather than just buying big dollar equipment and not knowing how to approach a task

definitely mate its alot about how you do something rather than worrying about what your using in most cases with this kind of work, having good equipment matters but not if you are not sure of the right ways to go about it in the first place

I just sprayed my first bench top with waterborne floor 'varnish'. I used a $60 NZ electric spray gun, (Ozito brand), from the local hardware store and strained the varnish through a piece of rinsed out garden frost cloth! I knew I was heading for disaster but I kept thinking "what would Rolls Royce do"? I knew half of it was in the prep so I was fastidious with that, and I made a little half-tent/booth thing out of polythene drop sheets. Bugger me it came out mint! Anyway, my Iwata AZ3 arrived today, and I pick up my compressor on Tuesday. Looking forward to spraying stuff over Christmas. Great vids mate - learning heaps Cheers from NZ

The best part I hope ppl are noticing is your technique when spraying, especially when you purposely go really slow, there’s an upholstery guy on KZread he never speaks, of course ppl complain that he doesn’t but if you just watch you learn there as well, 💥👏🏻💥

I've always wondered in waterbased if the drop coat (spraied after flash off) once dried , leave a micro peel that can be visible in some lights after the clear Is cured. I notice this problem in solvent base(more visible in lower solid clears). If i spray the drop coat with no flash off (when the base Is still wet) this doesn't happen and dries smooth and so the clear.

I have been trying akzo nobel imperium waterborne which to me is re branded lesonal as the color formulas are the same as well as reduction. It says to put down a 100% first coat, which I take as a closed coat. It will leave fish eye looking spots if its not closed and you can see the holes like in clear. It will run easily on that first coat. I have been turning in the fluid on my guns. I'm going to try your method and see what happens, I like the double control coat. I have seen that used in ppg. I'm switching from low voc solvent where it needs a wet spraying gun and cannot do a control coat. How much were you reducing metallics? Thanks

All waterbornes are very different. The stuff we spray is wet on wet. Almost 100 percent coverage and then straight to a control coat, no flash time. It’s amazing how fast we can paint now. Little caution with whites. Those you need a little flash time just because of density. Even in our crazy humidity, with fans and temp set, I can clear in about 10-15 min

But wait there’s more! The S basically is for homogeneous spray atomization according to them, a larger fan and more ‘I’ shaped, and the nozzles and caps do not fit older versions the gun body has a different thread interface, ALSO most needles are the same while the nozzles are larger but your forced to buy both in a kit, IE= I drilled out my impact 1.6 to a 2.0 all I needed was a drill bit no needle.
