I love a good cable Ply! I've been doing those recently, but for socks. Although, I admire your ability to be so technical with it and get exactly the yarn you want. My brain can't seem to focus on the technical aspects of spinning.

I have a half dozen spin control cards, but my favorite is the Fiber Sprite multi tool. they are on Etsy and Amazon. That is the one that is shaped like a sheep. They have different animal shapes. I also have an alpaca shaped one. I use them for angle of twist. I have found their quick WPI guide is a little big, so I use the basic rectangle guide for WPI checking my singles. I got that at Maryland Sheep &Wool many years ago, and don’t have the name. What additional information about ply angles are you interested in?

@@jkfiberarts I'd love to know more about what thickness of single equals what weight of yarn when plied. And what twist angle is best for each. Is there a different angle if spinning woolen or worsted? I know a lot of this is my choice but I'd love a starting point. I have several spinning guides and weight guides. I would love to know how to use them more.

I have posted the chart I use for estimating singles for finished yarn on several of my videos on how to 2-ply. It is from Sweet Georgia School of Fiber Arts. It will vary some based on fiber type and fiber prep. If you want a tougher wearing yarn, say a 3-ply for socks, I use 30deg twist angle for the final yarn. I use 30 degrees most frequently. The key is to get a yarn with good structure, but not over plied so that it feels like rope. If it’s underplied it will fall apart. I will use 20 deg for a soft, luxurious not hard wearing finished yarn. 😀

I love how this came out. I've been wanting to try making a cabled yarn but I had only heard of people using it for socks since it's supposed to be so sturdy. I'll definitely have to find a cable project to make some yarn for. Have you ever made any boucle yarn? I've been curious to try that as well. I'd also love to know what yardage meter you use?

I use the EEW Yarn Counter from Dreaming Robots. It’s very accurate, and easy to use. I am not a huge art yarn spinner, but I spin bobbles, thick and thin, core spun, lock spinning, which is sort of boucle.
