How to Solo: Welcome to...

Ойын-сауық

Time to do some suburban planning in Welcome to... designed by Benoit Turpin and published by Deep Water Games. Will we be able to efficiently expand parks, invest in real estate, fulfill city requirements, and even... build some swimming pools?

PSA: As pointed out by Andrew Mills, you should generally shuffle that project card somewhere into the bottom deck, not smack in the middle. Thanks Andrew!

I appreciate that you teach both the rules and strategy. I wish more people did that. It helps contextualize all of the mechanics. Thank you for your videos!

Very helpful video, thank you. I love this game. Just a correction: the deck of construction cards should be effect side up so you cannot see what house numbers are coming up.

Looks like a fun game! I find it amazing that this can go from 1 player to however many have the page. I'm looking forward to giving this a try sometime.

I just got this game yesterday and played a solo round (not with the new solo variant rules) and your video helped me reassure myself that I played correctly. Ended up with 90 points as well! I cannot wait to try all the themed neighborhoods from the mini expansions.

Hi Liz. Thanks for your reviews and playthroughs. You definitely help me decide what games would suit me solo. I noticed in setup you put the solo card bang in the middle. I believe it should be shuffled into the bottom half to randomise when it appears and all the city plan cards flip to the lower value.

Yeah, it should be shuffled in! I occasionally accelerate my timer to be mean to myself, and wasn't thinking. lol

Thank you for the video! I played along and scored 80! I don’t usually like solo games where the only objective is to earn points (as opposed to outscoring an AI or receiving a title based on your final score) but this one is just fine!

Nathan Bredfeldt If you pick up the Alexis Solo Mode deck from the Deep Water site, it adds a solo opponent and bumps things up another notch!

In the solo mode, do you get the choice to reshuffle the construction deck as well after completing the first city plan. Otherwise, from what I gather you can never complete 3 streets with the cards you have. To fill all numbers you need 33 numbers. Per three cards you pick one number and one effect. So you then need 99 cards to get to 33 numbers. There are only 81 cards in the deck. You could it with reshuffling, and the solo rules do say all other rules from the base game apply.

So I just used AAA #2 and her Bis/Agent values are both 1. Does that mean those 2 cards don’t “multiply” the value of the estate like in this example?

Why did you score no points for temp agency?

  • @maxvigne7111

I’m curious: why does the game need solo rules? It’s the very definition of multiplayer solitaire, the number of players doesn’t affect the length if the game or options available, and it’s beat your own score. Only issue is the temp agency. But why cut the deck in half?

  • @BeyondSolitaire

Great question! You play with the full deck, but there's a special card halfway through that essentially makes it so you can no longer get full points for completing projects. In a multiplayer game, other players might be the first to complete them, so that reduced scoring opportunity would happen naturally. Also, just taking three cards instead of dealing with three different stacks of cards makes solo a lot more pleasant because it's lower upkeep.
