Sweetwater luthier Doug Mantock shows us an important technical skill for musicians - how to solder!
Great to see people Behind scenes doin videos🤘🤘Thanks
More Doug please
Nice video. I wish we'd had an up close look at the hot lead being soldered to the lug on the connector, though.
Really chill video It’s good to learn this stuff
Nice vid. The Irwin vise-grip stripper 2078300 works wonders for me. Its saves a ton of time. It strips the insulation off the individual wires in proco dynamike 224s cable perfectly which could sometimes be tricky with traditional strippers.
Soldering is not necessarily hard, but understanding how the components work and where all the wires are supposed to go is what i have extreme difficulty with.
To begin, put on a pair of safety glasses! I can’t believe that so many people don’t do that. I used to have a job that required me to do soldering work, and my employer required safety glasses. I once had little blob of solder hit my glasses right in the center of the lens when I was unsoldering something, saved me from a very painful injury and quite likely permanent damage to my eye.
Nice! I do the exact same thing when soldering Mogami 3302 or 3368 for patch cables, except I use an exacto knife..when you Bend it to check you went all around there’s usually a small are where the cuts don’t connect(sometimes bending it works to finish)
Does anyone else notice the chemistry between these two?
Perfect! You Great!!
I wonder if he’s going to be working on my Ibanez J custom I’m getting black winters put in it I am so excited and I just can’t hide it
I prefer the bulb-type solder suckers
Pro tip: Make sure you have a good mechanical connection before making a physical connection with the solder.

That’s really important, but seems to be ignored nowadays. It seems like people now depend on the solder for making the electrical connection.
Hi guys, adding the basics of soldering like tinning a brand new tip & tinning again when your done should also be included. This will prolong the life of your soldering tips. Good video! Cheers!

yes plus narator does imterject a bit much
Sometimes wire cutters work well if you go one gauge too big. It "usually" takes the jacket off.
Great Vid. I wonder- does the Rig Doctor approve?
The smoke is the flux. If your solder does not smoke you can add some liquid flux. It flows much better with flux.
If you touch the soldering gun to your tongue and it taste like strawberries it’s hot enough.
