    Early on in my late start to falling in love with boxing (mid-40s) a trainer told me that "a great jab can take you around the world." It really stuck with me and to this day, 4 years after i started hitting a bag, its still the punch i practice the most.

    That’s dope man , you decided to start regardless of your age , 40-50 isn’t even old in my opinion but a lot of people at that age feel like their age will hold them back from trying new things . So big props to you bro I hope you keep boxing/working out till you can’t walk no more 💯💪🏼

    I will say once you learn this dont fall in love with it, i learned this and completly abandoned using a stiff push jab. Mixing them up increases effectiveness especially if someone thinks they can walk thru a flick jab only to be met with a stiff one

    I love getting that chemistry with the people I hold pads for. I might mess up; they might mess up, or I'll say something weird or they'll do something weird, and we just laugh it off and keep it moving. Not too serious, not too silly, just the right balance.

    The rotating of the fist/arm puts more tension on the various tendons. So THAT is why you can throw your fist at a higher speed, because the tendons will pull it back. Without this extra tension on the tendons you have to slow down and pull back your fist using muscle-power. It's all Science and it's oh so Sweet 😘😘😘

    Rotating the fist is exactly the same way when I was on Karate. For the snapping effect we also have to pull the fist at least as fast as we throw it, but preferably even faster.

  • @JayTheYTGuy

    Great tips. I notice a lot of guys don't turn the thumb down. I rem when I started to really disect technique I found that that's the reason my elbow was hurting. When I extended I was twisting a little late and thumb was parallel to the ground causing my elbow to absorb the whip motion. Turning the thumb down with the elbow slightly up prevents this and adds more snap into the end of the fist which of course is intended to go into the oppenents face instead of your elbow lol. That joint pain is no joke. Just my observation from when I learned how to properly throw a jab. I still like watching the 101's though because you never know what you might find or what you simply been slacking on.

    One way visualization helped me get this, I visualized actually bringing my hand back after snapping it. Sounds kinda dumb writing it out, but in my mind the only jab I wanted was the one that finished with my hand back.

    Coach by snap do u mean impulse or impact Force x time= change in momentum/impulse It's actually used to avoid injuries by increasing the time so that less force is transferred. The principle behind airbags in vehicles. So if u reverse it , u decrease the time more force gets transferred to your opponent causing more damage. Yep, I am an engineer started boxing as a hobby in 2020.

    Great video coach Anthony. Is it always necessary to rotate the fist 180 degrees as in the vidoe when throwing the jab? As I was sort of taught to rotate it just 90 degrees so that the fist is facing palm down on impact. Thanks for any info.

  • @ElBlanco973

    @ElBlanco973

    Жыл бұрын

    Hold your jab out in 90 degree position, then turn the thumb down and hold to compare. Thumb down your shoulder locks into your chin creating a natural guard and also more stability. Your forearm also rotates, giving you more torque to deliver a stiffer blow. In reality you should train all the angles from thumb turned over, to 90 degrees, to even thumb up. Hope this helps

    @coachanthony, don’t forget that if you have a speedy fighter in front of you, you don’t wanna rotate it because it takes longer to get to the target. Instead, you want to have your palm downward and shoot it straight so that it can reach the target faster. Watch De La Hoya vs. Mosley 1 and you’ll see Oscar doing this to perfection.
