How To Slow Down Kiteboarding: 3 Steps to a Controlled Stop

Спорт

This kiteboarding tutorial will teach you 3 techniques to slow down & come to a controlled stop.
How To Slow Down Kiteboarding, 3 Steps to a Controlled Stop:
1) Bring your kite Higher to slow down
2) Edge Hard and steer your board upwind
3) Sheet out slowly as your kite comes up to 12, you should be coming to a controlled stop.
-Hips & Shoulders back, your upper body should not be leaning over in front of the board. (resist the forward pull of the kite)
Using a combination of all 3 will help you to slow down under control, from here you can manage your speed to continue riding, change directions with a transition, or come to a complete controlled stop.
Choosing the right kite size is really the first step in the ability to manage your speed. It's much easier to come to a controlled stop without crashing or getting pulled off your board when you are not overpowered.

Best tip for me as a beginner (just hurt my knee from going uncontrollably too fast) is "try not to pick up too much speed in the first place" . It's a lot better to sink trying to edge/upwind having less speed than needed, rather than pick up too much speed and then start throwing hail Marys. Cheers for the channel, it's been more helpful than many of my lessons.

Fully agree. Had the same trouble as you. Only thing to add- even if you're in a gusty wind and struggle to stand up, trust me, it's better to lay in the water than end up flying face first when the speed is too much for you.

Luke, greetings from North Dakota, USA. Hardly a mecca of kite boarding despite how much wind we have here. About to get my first rig this week. Been watching your videos for over a year, as well as other tubers. Love your vids, you are a great teacher. I only hope when I hit the water I'll at least remember a fraction of all the knowledge you've put out on your channel. If I do, I'll progress quickly and safely. Thanks buddy 🤙😀

Hi Luke. I don’t need to learn that for years but it reminds me my beginner experience 🤓when I just made waterstart after my third lesson...I immediately enjoyed speeding at 30km/h on the water (18mph) 😎when I realized that nobody showed me how to use the brake🤭🥴 So the great interest of your vid during fast progression to avoid running at same speed on the beach to the car park🥶

one issue I had was that edging to slow down is difficult in waves. not all places have nice flat water in good wind conditions. it's sort of the same problem in snowboarding if you try to carve uphill and the slope is destroyed by all riders during the day :) so after some crap sessions due to this I moved to a flat water spot and suddenly could practice my speed control much better.

And last thing before ejecting the chicken loop. Let go of the bar. A kite by itself will either go to 12 or to the edge of the window. Calm yourself and try again.
