    Blake Olsen Wow, honored by your reply! No beaches in Bangkok, so I drive SSW down to Hua Hin Thailand or SE down to Pattaya or Rayong Thailand. Both about 2.5 hours away. Took my gear down to Phuket last week but there wasn’t enough even wind for a practice kite. No wind here sense the beaches opened, except the days I have to work, or having a baby! I did 12 hours of lessons in Hua Hin some 5 months ago. Waited 2 months for my Reedin kite then the Wuhan Flu panic. I have flown my kite on the beach and water dragged in 7 - 8 kits of wind twice but that’s not enough for this 105 kilo guy. Wind blows somewhat steady here in the winter only. I am from just south of the Space Coast in FL.

    I'm learning alone here in Kansas in cold water and I finally got up on the board but as the kite leaves the power zone after sending it it doesn't pull me anymore and I sink! I was trying to aim halfway between directly cross wind and where the kite was at the edge of the window down low.. I went from "Hell YEAH!" to "ahh crap" in 5 seconds lol I dono if I let it stay too low or I'm riding too much twards it. 🤔 I did it over and over but always get a real big burst of power and feels perfect for a couple seconds then.. blaaa.. down I go..

    That sounds like you are working with gusty wind. I imagine you’re on a reservoir or inland Lake. The wind is sure to be on and off in a location like that. Email a video and I’ll see if I can help. Ryan@mackite.com - Rygo

    I found it SO difficult to put the board on my feet ... I’m in a wavey shore which doesn’t help but really really struggled to consistently get the board on my feet without rotating and fucking it up. Once I got it on I was able to launch and ride for a few seconds but I was so exhausted from trying to put the board on my feet ... I’m not fat but I really struggled to breath as the harness is so tight and digging into my belly

    Blake, another excellent easy to understand tutorial , will try to implement this on my third lesson tomorrow waterstart if it goes ahead ( weather and wind conditions permitting) also you've done excellent job teaching your girlfriend I've been following all your videos right from the start and she seems very relaxed, comfortable, and natural at it now, Where is this location you're filming from it looks beautiful, is it still Doha?

    Hey thank you! Good luck on your lesson tomorrow, I hope the wind holds for you. Appreciate it! Most people say to not teach your girlfriend but we've had a lot of fun with it and I am glad that I was the one to teach her. Now we both have the same mentality when it comes to kiting and going in any weather. She is a light wind master from our 3 months in Qatar. Now we are living in Florida! Cheers! 😁

    Hi, will the proper kite size make a big difference toward a successful waterstart? I’ve been stuck at this stage for a little while and feel that it’s holding me back from progressing further along. I’ve taken two waterstart lessons from two different people (training with a 13m c-shaped kite) and the different bits and pieces of advice still isn’t helping me ride. As of now, I can get up but will plop back down when I try to waterstart. I also feel a bit underpowered. I weigh 220 lbs and my home spot has 20-25 mph winds on a good day. Therefore, is the 13m too small considering my weight and wind conditions? Should I consider getting a 17m and keep practicing? Thanks.

  • @MACkiteboarding

    @MACkiteboarding

    2 жыл бұрын

    The short answer is yes, a properly powered kite will help you with waterstarts. I think a 15m² would get the job done for you rather than a 17m² kite in those conditions. - Cole

    If a power kite has fallen into the water and I am far from shore. How do I lift it out of the water to catch the wind? Thx

  • @MACkiteboarding

    Pull a steering line and sail the kite to the edge of the wind window. Then use that line to catch some wind and sail it up. I’d recommend taking a lesson to learn the right technique if you haven’t. - Rygo
