How To Slow Dance - Social Dancing 101

Check out the rest of the moves on Amazon:
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008...
In Dance The Night Away, you'll learn how to dance in any social situation. You'll learn everything from how to slow dance, to how to dance as a couple, to the spins, dips, and turns that will sweep your partner right off their feet.
This slow dance lesson shows you just one of the moves you'll learn in this jam packed DVD and it reveals the simple, easy to learn way of learning how to slow dance.
Most instructional dance videos teach formal ballroom dancing routines that can take years to master and which can look strange out on the dance floor. Most beginners want to learn how to dance socially. how to slow dance with that special someone, and how to dance smoothly and naturally without looking like they are trying to hard.
Instead of teaching you formal dance steps, our DVDs focus exclusively on slow dancing, on partner dancing, on spins, and dips, and turns that are based on latin and swing dance styles without diving into the outdated patterns.
When you watch our easy dance lessons, you'll not only learn how to slow dance, but you'll learn how to dance confidently and easily and how to just dance the night away in any social situation, without ever worrying about your dance moves again.

PREPARE YOURSELVES. I just had my senior prom a few days ago. My best friend, whom I can seriously say is the first person I've ever been in love with, offered her hand for a slow dance by surprise. I didn't know how to slow dance. I got in the position as if I was about to lead and just started laughing, told her I didn't know how. She laughed with me, but she seemed disappointed because slow dancing was the only kind of dancing she knew how to do. So trust me yall, even if you're going without a date to prom, be prepared for anything. I'm a cautionary tale!

Guys never lead a girl by pushing and pulling on their arm. This is a terrible way to dance. It's not how you lead!! The concept of lead/follow stems from ballroom dancing, and being a ballroom dancer myself, I can assure you that the guy does not pull the girl wherever he pleases as a means to "lead". They guy has to simply move his body and in most instances the lady can feel this movement and follow the most basic of steps. Granted it takes actual training to do harder steps, but in this case we are talking about a very basic step-touch. Most ladies can follow along without the dude jerking her around. And take it from a woman, girls don't like that!

  • @justinwbohner

Well considering that the only points of contact are with the hands and shoulders, when she "feel this movement" it is a force transmitted through those points of contact, just like he says in the video! Your comment is pretty pointless and confusing. Nobody said anything about jerking the girl around except you.

Yes. It would have been a better explanation if he had first covered the concepts of frame and connection and information communicated by touch. Ditto for talking about the roles of leader and follower. She said "Make sure he leads." What she should have said is "Make sure you *let* him lead. Your job is to follow, and not to anticipate."

I take exception to one aspect of this video. Guys, don't lead by pulling your lady's arm! (or pushing for that matter) No one wants to get jerked around on the dance floor like a dog on a leash. Plus, she will have a sore arm the next day. Rather, you lead by moving your entire body. You move your legs and upper body, waist and chest, in the direction you want to go. Since your arms are attached to your chest, they will move in the same direction and THAT is how she will pick up your lead. I realize it is a subtle difference; however, it matters. Otherwise, if you lead with your arms she will probably feel like she is being yanked back and forth. Realize, your arm strength is greater than hers, so what seems like little effort on your part will be a lot more for her.

As a veteran professional, this instruction concerns me... you should NEVER use the words push and pull. Professionals usually spend the majority of their lessons correcting the bad habits these words create.

I have my first formal dance tomorrow. I actually managed to get a date, only Lord knows how that happened XD, and I've never danced before in my entire life. Except for awkward dancing you used to do as a kid, if you can even count that as dancing lol. I'm just here getting the basic run down on how to dance. Don't even have nice clothes to wear to a formal dance, gonna go to the store first thing in the morning to buy some. Wish me luck my dudes.
