    Slide the driver seat all the way forward and remove the headrest. Then you can fold your driver seat all the way back until it reaches the backseat. They line up perfectly so you can lay flat with minimal adjustment to your car seats. ❤😊

    I'm glad that worked for you! Thanks for sharing. In my car, the driver seat actually runs into the bottom cushion of the back seat first (so the head rest doesn't touch even if it's all the way down). That's why removing the bottom cushion really helped for me. Thanks for watching!

    It would have to be a solar generator. With the solar panels in the back, most cars have UV protection in the windshield. But if you’re driving it can be plugged into the car charger port, 782wh-1000wh battery capacity

    @@harleyhammock4214 ohh, very interesting! I've never considered putting solar inside the car. Good to know about the windshield vs. back window. I do have a 300wh battery that I plug into the 12v while driving. Works pretty well but not enough capacity for heating.

    Awesome, the way you set up your Civic! I've been a car camping nomad for a few years. Last car I camped in was my 2001 Honda Insight. I took 2 passenger side seat bolts loose, so I could fold the top of the seat flat. I cut a piece of plywood, about 2' x 3' to bridge the gap . I had one foam from Walmart and one from Jo Ann fabrics. Now I'm camping in a 2010 Prius. I just have my rear seats folded down all the time with my foams, pillow and a couple of sheets. I am still always thinking about how to improve my car setup. Go Nomads. 😊

    This gave me an idea. This is great. I was actually going to consider taking out the front passenger but I'm trying to hide that I'm sleeping in my car but I would definitely take out the bottom rear seats and put in a board and customize it a way like that. It's enough space for me since I already can decently stretch in the back. Just gotta consider the space it needs to slide back when I drive.

  • @reywrites

    You go girl! I have a 2.5 year old sedan, and I won't mess it up by removing the back seats. I always sleep with my legs bent a little, like semi fetal position anyway. So sleeping in the back seats will be fine for me. I'm going to try it for the first time this summer when going to the Oregon beaches. Because in warmer months they charge an arm and a leg for hotel rooms at the beach. My only issue would be where to go to bathroom. I will have to figure that one out first before going. Enjoy your travels!

    For me at 5'8" the key was to support my legs. I would put a rolled-up sleeping bag in the passenger footwell to get an extra foot of room to stretch out. Then I could sleep comfortably on my back with the seat back all the way down. For your Civic hybrid I might try one of those small folding stools in the footwell, with the memory foam on top of it, to get extra length. At 5'3" you have a great advantage. I've always been comfortable enough travelling in small cars and economy class airline seats, and sleeping on 3 seater couches. Short is best sometimes. :)

    Thanks for subscribing! My 2006 Honda Civic hybrid has air conditioning but you can't run it without the engine running. Or you will drain the battery almost immediately. The nice feature of the Prius is it turns on the engine only when needed if you run the ac overnight for example.

    Hey Rey! I want to do this to my car which is the exact same as yours so I can have more room to sleep but I am worried about the hybrid battery being exposed when you removed the back seat. Is this is an issue at all? Or is it okay to do this?

  • @reywrites

    @reywrites

    11 ай бұрын

    Hi Marcus, when you take the back seat cushion out of this car, what you see underneath is a box of solid material, with a couple of holes with rubber-coated wires coming out. The battery itself is not exposed - it is inside the box. There does not seem to be any live electrical contacts exposed by removing the cushion. Using the car in this way I'm sure is not manufacturer recommended. I'm just sharing what I did, and I can't tell you it's 100% okay. You could potentially use some smaller piece of foam and electrical tape to seal off some areas further after removing the large cushion.

    I store stuff in the trunk, a Thule box on the roof, and under and between the seats. To be honest, this setup is better for a relatively short camping trip than living in the car full time with two people. I've lived in a Mitsubishi Outlander Sport for 3 months and that was doable.

  • @reywrites

    In this setup, I'd have to toss all the padding and blankets into the back seat, put the front seat back up, get in the driver seat and drive away. Often the window fogs when you sleep in the car so I keep a towel for swiping the window clear quickly. Sleeping just in the backseat is a lot less comfy, but it's what I used to do and I could get into the front seat and drive away pretty quick if needed.

    Thanks for watching! Interesting idea. I haven't tried this particular arrangement, but my gut feeling is the space between/inside the windows would be too small to comfortably sleep (and I am a small person). It would also leave the back windows open and unscreened. Some larger vehicles like cargo vans have space for great wooden bedframes.
