I did NOT see that ending coming. I would have checked river too. Two pair flop in that configuration is not visible even as it was played. It's obvious now, but that is such an often mucked starting hand that it really is odd behavior.
That thumbnail, Bart! 🔥 😂love it brother
so much out there... I know ya love thin value, and I've been learning more and more/// but I was happy when you daid that you would probably check that... I was too
I never play California Grand. They do not and will not cut the deck out of the shuffle. A handful of rooms do that in that area. No cut, no play.
Watching the hand live I was also inclined to check. But mapping out the combos, if you think she doesn't slowplay straights on the flush-draw turn which seems pretty reasonable, we beat 55, 44, and 22 which is already 9 combos, and we can add a couple suited connectors to call it 11. We lose to really only 88 and 77 if we assume she 's going to raise a turned straight which is 9 combos... if you give her any chance of having 99 or TT and getting sticky it starts to really favor betting, and if we expand her suited connector range a bit then checking is really bad. I probably play the same as these guys but now I'm starting to think betting is just the play all day. Don't forget that a player inclined to lead the flop with 77 may well lead a rivered straight as well...
Here's why you can value bet this river, no live stakes fish first to act is going to check and try to trap with the very obvious nuts on a board like this. They are going to lead out every time as they should because there's nothing disguised about their hand and therefore no reason to think that you would bet with worse
So what would you have done if V jams river?

The hand makes absolute sense. The lead out gave it away, the overcall was mediocre at best, and the call to fifth street was awful
In Vegas, at low stakes, often with a madman image, i can count the number of times I've successfully achieved any notion of thin value.
Does she check a straight on this board w/ a 3 or a 7? It's possible she's sandbagging but most likely she'd lead on that river when the board becomes insanely sketchy and she knows the opponent will check back the majority of hands. I don't mind the check, I'd likely do the same thing but a smaller blocking bet might be warranted. It does open your stack to a jam though.

Block bet bluff on the river is basically an OOP maneuver only. There are very few times you would do it in position and it would mostly be exploit play not GTO. I will head this off really quickly, I am not a solver nerd, I think GTO should be the basis of your strategy and then make adjustments against each opponent.
Of course u check back. Not worth imo betting and them going all in

If she's so wide, doesn't that mean she has a million 7xdd and 3xdd combos? The 75 open ender got there too. I guess the idea behind betting the river is that she would never check the river with those?
By hitting a set?
Would be nice if the pre, flop, turn actions can be left on display throughout the hand. For reading purposes.

It's better to leave that info off so you are forced to remember it. The better you can keep it in your head, the more your winrate will increase. Rewatch the video to see how much you missed.

@@AT-bw4cm I get it. It's not like we have a hud when playing live. Reminds me of one of my pet peeves, when players ask dealers to spread the pot.
I probably would’ve gone like 175-200 on the turn and then maybe 225 on the river. I think we can bet river if we keep it small to get called by smaller sets and all possible two pair.
@jeffshackleford3152

Assuming you are value betting, why wouldn't you over bet or go all in? I thought the point of value betting was to maximize the magnitude of the win, not the frequency. I am pretty sure magnitude trumps frequency in value betting terms.
Who knew norm McDonald could thinly value bet the river? Jack of all trades
No one check call with a 3 on the turn . No one check the straight 8 up front on the river . So caller should have bet at the end.

I like river check. There's no guarantee her 22 and 44 are calling, unless we bet small maybe. It's a thin range to target to begin with. And if we bet small, her QJdd type hands can raise us potentially.
@brianfloyd2279

I agree with check back. If she plays a 2 4s she is playing 53s, 75s, 67s, 78s, etc., plus A3 and A7, possibly 32s, 34s,35s, 36s, heck maybe 37s. Then add in pocket 77 and 88...she has all of those hands. I wouldn't advise limping UTG with those hands but she got an opportunity to close the action on an early raiser that is more than likely raising with big pairs, AK, AQ, AJs, ATs, maybe A9 and A8s... Of course just when I think I figure this game out a little better than I knew yesterday, here comes Bart (one of the most competent mid stakes players in the world) telling us he would maybe bet against her ranges had he knew she was so wide. My biggest weakness in this game is I miss value; the better players know when to get that thin value in spots like these where I just go with the safe option and check it back in fear of getting check-raised for my stack being put in a tough situation where now ur forced to make a bad call, more than likely. I'd have to add that my line on the river would 100% player dependent though. A wild player like a few I play with yeah I may bet here, but those folks are probably not gonna check raise bluff on the river. Besides, the stack to point ratio leaves small room for choosing a betting size that isn't all in anyways. I mean, either u bet something like 200 to 250 and they jam are u gonna fold for 500 when the pot is laying u 3.5 to 1? With two one-line on board this would suck.. I'd hafta call at that point. And moving in on the river I think ur only putting a 3 to a test, and because of preflop position they prolly put u on busted diamonds and over pairs, maybe a set of 8s or 6s, and they snap call with that 3.
@AT-bw4cm

He raised into a donk lead that favors the villain on the flop. She is never folding a set as he is almost never going to have a straight as preflop raiser/ flop raiser. Hero could bet larger the whole way. When someone donks the flop, they are rarely going to fold to a raise and a larger raise is more likely to induce a reraise to protect against a flush draw when they have value. When they donk the flop with a flush draw, it's usually the ace high draw (especially with 2 players that they are donking into) which isn't folding the turn to a large bet. She limped preflop, her aggressive donk lead is going to eliminate gutshots.

@@brianfloyd2279 she doesn’t have any of those hands not a single one except A3d. 33 is something bad players may limp under the gun and call a raise with but 53d isn’t. I just used Bart’s one weird trick to skyrocket my win rate…Love the channel but the titles are getting so annoying that I may start to avoid on principle.
Thin as it gets...? I dunno man 👨 😕
It is weird seeing the shift to clickbait from Bart. You make great low stakes live poker training content. Is it more important to you that your customers are give a consistent reliable product, or to garner every view possible? The comments are riddled with people disappointed by being misled from clickbait. I can only imagine that would lead to less CLP subscriptions from this content as viewers feel they’re being mislead and treated as a product rather than actually being taught how to “skyrocket their win rate”. But I guess Bart has the analytics and he sees the bank account so only he knows what is worth doing.
Sounds shady
I like the hand review but the title has to go.
