This video inspired me to start skimboarding… in my mid-40’s. Six weeks, several minor sprains and countless scrapes & bruises later, and I made it out to a wave for the first time this morning. I wish I’d started years ago, but better late than never. Thanks, Blair.

I didn't know the dry sand training trick shown in this video (I didn't know shit about skim boards really🤤) and I didn't have wax today. But that looks like it works at a speed, that I'd be cool with trying for the first time. On the wet sand u sprint and jump on. because if u run to slow the board will just plant in the sand and wont work. Anyway, I tried for the first time tobay and it's harder then it looks and has about a 99% beginner injury rate. I'm 42, kinda athletic, kids are 16 & 17 and it was tuff. I think theirs other shit that's just as fun without the high injury risk.

I was skimboarding and making my own boards in 1983.... There were no foam boards til late 80s, and to do the one-step you were good! We just threw the board down and jumped on within a few steps though. My best board was a WilsonArt (Formica) bottomed Victoria shape. It was FAST and I shredded! My first ones were half-inch plywood with polyester resin like the old Victorias. My first was a round one 26 inches across. 10 speed bike tire. Yeah that was about right, I said as I stood in it. I taught myself at Scripps pier on the flats but mainly I was at Santa Cruz and Aptos. I even built a jig to bend the nose up after soaking the first 8 inches in water for a week. I also had KILLER paint jobs with colored resins. So great to watch the Joog Squad in action and GREAT instructions. KEEP UP THE GREAT VIDS!!

Many times a pro will either not understand the challenges that a beginner faces, or else just has no patience for methodically covering the basics. Thanks for a great, useful vid.

I live in Indiana but I visit Myrtle Beach occasionally so I’ve kinda skimboarded for a few years but never learned much. But now I’ve just graduated high school and I’ve been doing longboard dancing/freestyle for about a year now so I finally decided to learn how to skimboard! I’m able to ride out into the waves and kinda power slide up onto them and ride a little bit (day one). And I can do 180s as well as these weird 180s where I’ll start the spin regular then I’ll put one finger in the side and slide the board around and it kinda looks neat. Can’t wait to learn more! Gonna have to try to find some spots back home in Indiana but I’m stoked
