THANKS! Great video. Very helpful. I’m recovering from a concussion I got skating the big bowl at Fremont. I can’t wait to get back to the skatepark. I love the idea of the butt slide. I’m 57 years young and 2 years skating. I’’m really starting to enjoy generating speed through pumping. Got my first 3 wheels out grind on the coping on a quarter pipe at Newark skatepark last week and that has me SUPER STOKED! I really love skating pools/bowls. This summer my goal is to learn how to drop in. I can almost reach the tile in a 12 foot deep bowl starting by climbing in first. Thanks again for your efforts and I will watch more of your vids as I’m not allowed to skate for at least 1 week - but who’s counting🧨🤣💥 C’mon I feel fine today! (just kidding 👹)

drop in. get somebody to hold your hand.... i started skating at 45 and slammed so hard 3 times... i knew i could do it but i couldnt get the motion. finally after a month out in real pain.....i put my ego away and asked the best skater at the park to hold my hand... he smiled and said yeah no worries... he watched my hard falls... within 10 mins i could do it... it took 3 goes with his hand and then a few where he was there by less help each time... he is now one of my best mates.... and 2 years on i hold so many kids hands.... they get it after 1 hold normally... dont take pain unecessary !!! accidents are different... this can be managed...

I was petrified to drop in but when I came back to the sport at 43 it was some serious unfinished business for me and now I love it. It’s an instant on button for speed but not beyond the speed you can already handle. Biggest tip is to keep your front shoulder down and I accomplish that by reaching my fingertips to the nose and then picturing an invisible string about 6” long keeping my hand near the nose. Don’t break the string! Practice that on all the little ramps you can until you can build up. The bigger ramps feel almost exactly the same. I’ll even say they actually can be easier because your brain has more time to negotiate the curvature and keep you balanced. Check out a bunch of tip videos and consider my tip. Good luck!

As an older transition skater, I wear thin hip pads to help take the edge off. My buddy makes a set that are easy to adjust and I’ve gotten in the car after a session and forgot they are there. Also, I made the mistake of going straight to my knee pads in a small 4’ bowl and injured my PCL. Definitely need to run out on smaller stuff, or at least get a couple steps before knee sliding.

Dropping in is one of the only things I can actually do, I guess I'm just here to see if I could do it better. The biggest tip I could give would be REPETITION , then IMPROMPTUITY. Once you have become confident with the method of Dropping in, and you start trying different QPs, Bowls, and HPs - Be Imprtomptu about it. As soon as you have a genuine thought of 'I could do that' Jump up there, put the board down, and drop. Standing up there and waiting only makes it harder, and makes you worry more - if you are thinking of failing, your body is more likely to fail. Your brain is stupid, it will basically just do what you think about happening whether you are fit for the act or not - so long as you aren't attempting something physically impossible for your body, you just have to visualise and Do. Don't try, just do.
