the best tip I’ve ever gotten was to act like a bug was on your board and stomp it. That’s how I learned to drop in!!
This series on transition skating has been really helpful for me. I was mostly skating street in my youth but now I'm enjoying skating transition a lot more and this is helping me figure it out.
Thanks for the help dude classic case of street skater brain here
Killed it once again my friend! Great tips!!!
I’m an old rebeginner and this video is super great and helpful. Thank you Zack!
The videos keep getting better & better with each one, much love
THANKS! Great video. Very helpful. I’m recovering from a concussion I got skating the big bowl at Fremont. I can’t wait to get back to the skatepark. I love the idea of the butt slide. I’m 57 years young and 2 years skating. I’’m really starting to enjoy generating speed through pumping. Got my first 3 wheels out grind on the coping on a quarter pipe at Newark skatepark last week and that has me SUPER STOKED! I really love skating pools/bowls. This summer my goal is to learn how to drop in. I can almost reach the tile in a 12 foot deep bowl starting by climbing in first. Thanks again for your efforts and I will watch more of your vids as I’m not allowed to skate for at least 1 week - but who’s counting🧨🤣💥 C’mon I feel fine today! (just kidding 👹)

Your skating at 57 years old that’s cool you can still be active at 57
I love skating bowls so much compared to anything else and, frankly, I find bowl and transition skating much easier than street. Sure, I love doing clean ollies and powerslides but transition skating is the most fun imo.
Awesome Zack ...just what i need right now. Im an older guy just getting back to skating after many years break and these were very useful tips! Thanks 👏
drop in. get somebody to hold your hand.... i started skating at 45 and slammed so hard 3 times... i knew i could do it but i couldnt get the motion. finally after a month out in real pain.....i put my ego away and asked the best skater at the park to hold my hand... he smiled and said yeah no worries... he watched my hard falls... within 10 mins i could do it... it took 3 goes with his hand and then a few where he was there by less help each time... he is now one of my best mates.... and 2 years on i hold so many kids hands.... they get it after 1 hold normally... dont take pain unecessary !!! accidents are different... this can be managed...
Definitely needed this video for my pool skating confidence. If you could make a video about some basic coping tricks that would help a lot. I can comfortably flow most bowls and slash grind coping, but need some bread and butter tricks i can go to at all times. Thanks for the great video!
My town is getting a bowl soon so i am super excited to learn how to skate one ive never tried before
Here to appreciate this video, man. I'm 33, so this class was right on the spot. Specifically, the option for the knee slide. Great content.
Been waiting for that one, Friday evening saved thanks! Greetings from Vienna, Austria

Excellent advice and technique. The but slide. Clever! Never heard before but it makes a lot of sense. Thank you!

I'm rewinding the tip for how to roll in. Next I would like to see tips for how to fly out. Effective skids or reverts and fakie or switch carve techniques. Thanks
Super helpful video ...thanks man
Such a great video thank you
Thanks so much Zack! These videos give me so much hype to skate transition. I'll be practicing this until I finally hit the copping. Droping in is also on my list, ways always afraid of it but I know it's just a matter of fully committing because the theory and the body movement I'm quite sure I already have it.

love ur vids
I might be the master of the scum line. I love carving around through the bowls, I just never get that high up the wall. I’ll start working on that. Good vid.
Good job brother
Yo. I love pumping and carving transition. Been learning at Gnarlington. I'm running an 8.5 wide libtech and I out radar roller derby wheels on it 56mm. Not quite to dropping in yet. But I'll get there

I was petrified to drop in but when I came back to the sport at 43 it was some serious unfinished business for me and now I love it. It’s an instant on button for speed but not beyond the speed you can already handle. Biggest tip is to keep your front shoulder down and I accomplish that by reaching my fingertips to the nose and then picturing an invisible string about 6” long keeping my hand near the nose. Don’t break the string! Practice that on all the little ramps you can until you can build up. The bigger ramps feel almost exactly the same. I’ll even say they actually can be easier because your brain has more time to negotiate the curvature and keep you balanced. Check out a bunch of tip videos and consider my tip. Good luck!
Thank you
As an older transition skater, I wear thin hip pads to help take the edge off. My buddy makes a set that are easy to adjust and I’ve gotten in the car after a session and forgot they are there. Also, I made the mistake of going straight to my knee pads in a small 4’ bowl and injured my PCL. Definitely need to run out on smaller stuff, or at least get a couple steps before knee sliding.
Dope content Bro! Do you do board slides? Cheers!
Im trying to learn axle stalls and 5050s, i Was woundering, am i supposed to pump up the wall before the coping? I feel that leaves my legs extended with poorer balance. Nice if you focus abit on body weigh transfering with the basics. Dope videos!
I remembered this by Dan Corrigan, "fight or flight mode"... Sometimes is about the fear. *I didn't know, that i know how to carving grind 🤔😉
Ive always been a long boarder high speed parking lots. Been a few years and there's a skate park near me. Never been a fan of traditional skateboards because I've fallen so easily of them small hard wheels. Any tips for the long board transition board I can buy to get into skatepark?
I'm a little late but good video🤘🤘
Can I use 64mm wheels? What do you recommend for the durometer?
I have 54 cloud rictas and 56 spitfires which are alot harder than the rictas. What would you recommend for someone new to pool skating
They have transition pads available called triple eight bumsaver is a good brand
Wonder if you had a intermediate guide. I wouldn't say I'm a beginner but have a decent foundation for transition. Finding alot bigger transition to be somewhat scary ( anything over 5 ft) what helped you get through that mental block/ plateau

knee pads, wooden ramps over concrete
I had crash pants when I was a blader at 12 years of age in 1997!
Dowdy remember the last time I tried to skating a bowl it was embarrassing lol
Trick tip : how to roll in without clipping on the coping. When my back wheels hang up I know I'm going down
@roybatty4578
2 жыл бұрын
Having big wheels really helps, anything 55 mm or bigger
On the knee slide what if you're wearing old bones therapy knee gaskets in a good pair of knee pads, would that take some of the force
@ZackDowdy
2 жыл бұрын
Yes! I want to try some kneepads again soon.
the bad thing about but slides is that if you are going fast you can hit the back of your head
They make buttpads for snowboarding and skiiing that would work well for skating too
what size is your board ?
Hockey pants fit the bill for butt pads but the material would get shredded by the concrete. so maybe thin pvc for a more slidey material.
How old are you Zack? Love you're Videos
Padded shorts don't qualify as but pads?
Thanks I broke my tailbone!!! Just kidding 😂😂😂
Do you think wheel size really matters?
For me personally I’ve alwayyyysss worn knee pads so I stick with them if I can I’ll roll out of it I only go to my knees if it’s high enough to and I know how to knee slide properly

If you're planning on butt sliding I'd definitely suggest wearing a helmet for the first couple of years. It can be dangerous learning to catch yourself and not allowing your head to hit the ramp in the middle of a bail out.

Yes. Very good point. I don’t but slide that much because I wear shorts, but I always remind my students to tuck their chin to their chest when they fall
This video is Fantasmic Orgazzmik
To bad you don’t live need San Francisco. I would pay for some Lessons on riding a bowl. Skateboard little bit but most surfed. Now I am 44 I would like to learn how to ride a bowl.
i slip out and land on my hips when i tried that
The police helicopters are after you man! Skateboarding is not a crime, haha.
I took 1 good slam before i learned how to drop in
Side notes if you're going to slide on your butt make sure to wear jeans because when I did it I skinned my ass!!! 🍑☠🔥 Shorts is a no no skating a bowl on hot concrete.
u seem so nice lolll
Skate the scum line…Thanks! Lol
how to skate Bowl, how to... I wish to have Bowl near me... its 100km + ;(
Yeah....if you're going to get better at skating transition, I'd strongly suggest wearing pads and a helmet if you're not confident. Just trust me.
I'd argue you that you should wear knee pads whether you plan to kneeslide or not. I wear a helmet even though I don't plan on hitting my head ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Dropping in is one of the only things I can actually do, I guess I'm just here to see if I could do it better. The biggest tip I could give would be REPETITION , then IMPROMPTUITY. Once you have become confident with the method of Dropping in, and you start trying different QPs, Bowls, and HPs - Be Imprtomptu about it. As soon as you have a genuine thought of 'I could do that' Jump up there, put the board down, and drop. Standing up there and waiting only makes it harder, and makes you worry more - if you are thinking of failing, your body is more likely to fail. Your brain is stupid, it will basically just do what you think about happening whether you are fit for the act or not - so long as you aren't attempting something physically impossible for your body, you just have to visualise and Do. Don't try, just do.
Talk about whatever privledge yet being a liberal make it okay😆
