How to Size a Deployant Rubber Strap - Watch and Learn #88
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Today we will be learning how to size a rubber strap with a deployant clasp. This strap type is used on the Islander Sands Point (SPT) model. The most important take away is "measure twice, cut once".

Thank you for the concise instructional video! That combination looks great!
Perfectly explained in the video. I went slow and adjusted te strap perfectly for my wrist. Thank you Marc!
Hey Marc, just got my green Kelp in today and love it! Light weight and very comfortable too. No problem, with an exacto knife, to size the rubber strap. Ryan nailed this design on the dial!❤ ❤
Mine comes in today. Can't wait. I also chose the ISL-159. Shout out to Ryan for an awesome design

Glad I could help!
Massive help. Thank you.
Speaking as a person who doesn’t always cut straight with a razor, I would put that strap down flat on a cutting board, put the razor edge along the entire length of the groove, and then push down and cut. Holding the two perpendicular the way you did makes me nervous that the super aharp blade will veer off to one side or the other, making an ugly cut that might spoil a link.

I was wondering -can you use a pair of small scissors to cut the strap? I don't have the steadiest hand in the world when it comes to using a razor.
Thanks for another great instructional video. This is a beautiful watch, hope its selling like crazy.
Thank You! You purchase this type of watch band online and then no instructions! Great advice!!
Nice video! Nice atmos!

Great description on sizing of this strap Mr. Long island (Marc)! Also I feel you gotta start checking that wristwatch that you're wearing for these videos !! Big love from Perth, Western Australia 🤙😁
excellent video and very helpful.
Excellent video! Thanks Marc. Have a great day! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸

Thanks! You too!
Exactly what I needed to know. I used a big scissors to cut the rubber instead. If using knife, you need a cutting surface but not with scissors.
What a Beautiful watch! You’re really on a roll!

Thanks for the video! I wish you explained how important buckle positioning is so that watch stays stable and balanced on wrist. Most wrists require a shorter inside (6oclock) strap to center buckle properly. I assume that’s why both sides come with differing lengths?
I’d love to buy one of those straps a la carte in 20mm lug width. Navy/dark blue and grey would be great color options too if these straps are ever made available a la carte. I’ve been looking for something like this online, and there aren’t many great options. Many of the nicer options are so specifically made to go with a Submariner or Longines diver in ways that would look out of place on another brand.

You make it look so easy; I totally have done similar past straps both the hard way incorrectly…

Haha, thank you.
The first step I do is move the micro adjustment pin to the center hole, so I size the rubber in a way that I can move the micro pin either way.

Excellent video. Do you know if that strap has curved ends? If so can a guy buy that exact strap and delpoyant? Less the watch. This would be great on my Damasko DK32 Ocean. Cant find anything until this video. My Sinn U50S black curved strap fits but Sinn do not offer a blue like that. I definitely want curved ends to hug the case and avoid the gap. Thanks and look forward to your comment
I would love to have one of these straps with the clasp being stainless to put on my islander diver.
Hi Marc, could you recommend a watch repair/service ? I think you once recommend one in Dayton OH ?? Cheers 🙏
Might we expect this strap clasp combo for the 43mm islanders??
Thanks for this video. Man! That blue looks great! I’m a big fan of blue anyway. My Black Sand should be here today,( thanks for such great service btw), but maybe a should have considered the blue! Lol.

Hey Marc! I'm looking for a strap setup like this for my Seiko srpg. Would any 20mm curved rubber strap work? Any suggestions otherwise?
That's smart to leave some excess material in the clasp. Gives you some more length if you ever happened to sell the watch and/or strap!
Amazing band, is it available as an accessory?
Why do people wear watches infront of the wrist bone? Seems incredibly uncomfortable.
How do you do this with a leather rolex strap mine is down as far as I can get it mine don't have slots I can cut
Are you going to sell those rubber straps with the clasp separately??
How beautiful is the brand and name of the watch with the world map behind you
Hello Marc. Thanks for this instructional vid … I‘ve had to do this in the past for a couple of Sinn & Glashutte straps … always nerve-wracking!! Curious, I believe we share same wrist sizes (6.75-in) … do you recall how many total segments you wound up cutting from your strap?

Not sure yet!
Thank you for the video! Shouldn't the straps have some metal "cylinders" inside the holes? I mean, I generally see those with those types of straps, and it sure helps with the durability.
@islandwatch

I have seen that as well; it helps to keep stuff out, but isn't necessary. The watches I own that have those (Sinn) the bars come out on their own and I'm always pushing them back in.
Hi Marc. I'm not sure if you've answered this before, but feels like this video is as good a time as any to ask. Do you size a watch to a particular wrist and then only wear it on that wrist? Or do you keep them so they could be worn on either. I know most people have slightly different sized wrists so I was curious.
@DarrenBates
Жыл бұрын
Was just about to ask this. I always feel like my wrists are completely different - something sized for the left could never fit comfortably on the right and vice versa!
@islandwatch
Жыл бұрын
I find that my left wrist, being dominant, is indeed slightly larger. So if it's a bracelet watch, I'm congnizant of it and will generally dedicate it to one wrist. For straps, elastic, etc, I can just adjust normally for either. Some watches, like big, bulky watches, I generally only wear on my right.
Hi Marc, any chance of selling that style strap with the deployment clasp at your online store anytime soon? Would definitely be all over that especially a white strap would be awesome.

Marc - you are overdue for a mani-pedi! 🥴
Very helpful video, Marc, thank you. Two questions: Can you use shears rather than a razor blade to cut the band? Would you consider putting out a version of the same strap with a regular buckle for those of us who don't want to have to do this surgery? This royal-blue color in particular would be a nice addition to your regular FKM bands.
@islandwatch

You can, but you'll want a blade to clean it up. We have straps with regular buckles that will fit. Such as BRAC-16, 17, 23, 24
Cool video. Do you sell these straps separate?

put strap flat and cut along the line , you may go out of line your way ...........
I really love the look of the Sands Point. However, with its dimensions (at 43x14), which are too large for me, and the fact it has no date complication, I will not be purchasing one.
