Dear Lois, thank you so much for the singing tips of this song that I love. I live on Montserrat island in the Caribbean and love classical singing. With no one to teach me, I taught myself to sing and took exams up to Grade 8 in both the Royal Schools of Music and Trinity College of Music in London. By telling myself "Yes you can!" over and over, I enrolled for Trinity's Associate in Classical Performance and, to my great surprise, passed the performance section of the exam. I had to forgo the written section as there were no computers on the island (hence no Google) at the time and no music books in the public library. Before I die, my greatest wish is to have even one singing lesson.

Hello, I'm from Poland and I've been performing this song many times. I appreciate your effort into this video and I'm grateful that you've made this song even more popular. But I've got some issues about pronunciation. You're actually teaching an Italian pronunciation. We pronounce "h" in Latin, and we read "g" not as dʒ (e.g. in "judge"). But is understandable, because Italian tenors sang it in that way. I mean you should emphasise, that this is "an Italian pronunciation". It's not Latin at all. Moreover, I assume that you're posting your videos for English-speaking world. The point is that normally the letter "r" is always read as "r" (you can't use the sound ə here). Without this "r" at the end, "pauper" (meaning poor, humble) becomes "paupe". There's no such a word in Latin. Thank you for your film, anyway! :-)

  • @singingtips1

Hi! Thanks so much for posting. You're right about my chosen pronunciation - I personally like Italianate Latin, and could write pages about why! 😄 My videos are intended to be user-friendly and confidence-boosting for the widest range of vocal abilities, regardless of first language. I guess my online approach (with inclusivity at the heart of what I post) is more about keeping things fun than intellectually stimulating! 🙃

@hamutulia5556 the pronunciation of this Latin ( it sounds like Italian phonics) belongs to the Eclesiastic Latin, in other words, the standarized pronunciation given by the Catholic church. Panis angelicus is, obviously, a Catholic song about Eucharist. That' s why the " strange" phonetic from the teacher. The sounds you are suggesting correspond to " Classical Latin", the one based on Virgilio's or Cicero's writings and comments, as there isn't recordings from the real spoken Latin. In fact, both versions ( eclesiastical and classical) are correct in their own contexts.
