The puffy cheeks is a really clever way to go about this because it forces the abdominal support muscles to come into place. Nicely done, sir!
Oh my God. Dude. You have made me sing Roxanne for the first time in my life without almost dying, which always sounded really bad. I feel like I have just learned to sing anew. Like it's a new beginning. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

That's so awesome! I am so happy to hear that!
my favorite thing is how he describes the puffy cheek thing and then casually hits a D5
I'm not that ambitious a singer. I just wanted to be able to sing in front of friends and family and not be embarrassed. And for many years I couldn't, even after taking some private voice lessons. It was THIS video that I watched a couple of years ago that was the key to unlocking things for me. I was even able to sing a couple songs in front of a big crowd of my extended family recently, and they all clapped for me and were complimenting me on my voice, something that's never happened before (before, usually people would start talking and tune me out when I started singing). That exercise is golden. That was the key for me. Thank you, Tyler. I will be forever grateful to you.
Man this is the best video I had seen to find the mix voice

Wow thanks so much! That's is a very generous compliment!
FINALLY SOMEONE WHO TEACHES IT AND CAN ACTUALLY DO IT
Finally someone mentioned semi-occlusion exercises. What many don't understand is that it is about learning the sensation and getting it to muscle memory. It is also a coordination that you are learning. I learned it by actually singing songs with low volume and pressure. Songs like No One by Alicia Keys, and songs by Bruno Mars, Ginuwine, Michael Jackson. Then once I had the coordination at low level, low pressure... I would slowly add volume. I also used Amazing Slow Downer app to set loops and slow down song a little.... so note are sung longer to really ingrain the sensation. Very good video on this. One of the best.

How long should it take from very quiet to singing convincingly in higher range, if you practice a lot?

I've done this exercise for months now and I can make that light sound quietly up to C#4 but above that it either flips into head voice or becomes strained.

can you help me, does it usually take this long
@dozermendoza
4 жыл бұрын
@@samuelcf97 everyone is different. I mean, you have some kids that literally are natural singers. They can effortlessly do note delineation(trills and runs), while others have to practice for a long time doing scales and singing. There are people that go to college for voice, and still can't surpass a natural child singer. You can grow your voice, your tone, everything, it's just everyone is different. Some have to work hard and long to develop a "popular tone". Some people may be more suited for a genre, even though that genre is not their interest, so they take longer to reach their goals. I used to hate my voice. I practiced for a long time. Did Ken Tamplin exercises while driving to school, did SLS exercises like Brett Manning's and others. Luckily, alot of vocal coaches have popped up on KZread that show actual training. I have taken breaks and came back to it. Years, and the thing is, everyday is different. Some days my voice is awesome, everything falls into place, other days it is off a little. So YES, it may take a long time, but continue because you love it. I grew my voice actually singing along with cover artist renditions, like William Singe for example. I am not a paid singer, so it's not something I can pour alot of time to. I work, have kids, military, work out, and only time is when driving to work, or time alone. So time will depend on alot of things. Keep at it. You have to.
Wow this guy can sing. Impressive

Yay so happy to have cleared some things up!
I have been looking for a clear, understandable video about mixed voice with an exercise for so long!! I never understand it, and I thought I was never going to be able to sing in mix, but this has actually given me hope. Thank you so much, I’m gonna practice this everyday, and hopefully I will be able to sing in mixed voice soon
I have seen hundreds of channels of vocal coaches talking about resonace and breath support. You're the first one that I see that talks about what it is really the mixes voice, thanks for being so great and for having done all that researchs. I'll share this video with many people, you're great!!!
OH MY!!! I've been binge-watching every tutorial on KZread about Mixed Voice and THIS IS THE ONLY VIDEO THAT HAS ACTUALLY TAUGHT ME HOW TO DO IT IN A VERY BRIEF TIME!!! Wow, thank you, vocal teacher! 🧡🙌
Thank you a lot for your lessons on mixed voice and I really mean it. By far you are the best vocal teacher on KZread as your methods work faster than others!
I love you bro. This is what i have been searching for the last few months.
AMAZING! I've been working on this for a time now and this is the first thing that actually locked it in. Now I have to find some pleasant tone there and hit it on the fly, but at least I know what it feels like. You're a genius!
oh my goodness.. you've literally saved my life. i've been trying to find my mixed voice for the longest time and i've searched EVERY single mixed tutorial on youtube but none of them worked. i was about to give up, but then i saw your video and tried this exercise. at first, i started at the bottom of my range and slid up to my highest but my voice would always enter my head voice and i would feel frustrated. i gave it a few more tries, but as i was reading the comments while doing so, i noticed that someone said to try from starting up and then sliding down. after doing this, i think i've finally found my mixed voice!! i don't feel the break and it feels nice, however, when i'm in that part of my voice, my lips quiver a lot and i think you replied to one of the comments saying it was normal. but anyway, i would like to thank you for helping me find my mix! god bless you!
Thank you for giving something practical, measurable, and palatable that produces immediate returns and opens up a new perspective of awareness to the voice.
So many videos out there and this is the one that finally helps me understand what it really sounds like, how it's different to the head voice and how to train it, thanks
4 months ago I had no idea how good this video was. I've been following you and practicing my mix and then watched this video again. It's fantastic. I'm singing Roxanne!! woooooooooooo. Thanks so much.
I have searched and searched for a clear explanation like this. Thank you SO MUCH for doing the research on anatomy and describing it, and giving this really helpful exercise. Playing Joseph soon and gotta have that G4 really well.
I've watched at least 10 videos on this topic and none of them helped. With this one I finally got it. Thanks man!
I searched for so unbelievably long for this and I finale hit my mix. Thank you soo much
Wow! Best explanation of mixed voice on youtube. And the fact that you actually gave useful tips and examples to mixed voice, made it way easier for me to understand!!

It's nice to see a voice coach that can actually perform what he teaches. So many teachers teach it, but don't know how to do it themselves.
This is awesome dude. I finally learned how to sing mixed about a month ago and it has been a pain in the ass. You are completely right, there is different musculature as the voice slides back from chest into head voice and this exercise already helped me to hit that C5 even more fluidly. Keep it up. 👍🏻
Great tutorial man, this is excellent info :)
Tyler you are so on point, this advise is pure gold.
WoW! Thanks Tyler.....The way you explained and demonstrated this just made my day! I've always been a bit confused about what "mixed voice" feels like and this made it click for me.....thank you thank you thank you!!!

I´ve been trying to sing in mixed voice for just a week now and thought it would take me a long time to get there. Tried this and got there right away. This is amazing.
The puffy mouth is working very well for me. Now I can feel I can maintain the inside mouth pressure while singing different words. Thank you very much! You are a talented teacher. Also, your voice sounds very nice. It has both high and low resonances.
Just watched the video and it immensely changed my way of singing. Thank you so so much you sir had made a friend today
Dude, thank you so much for this! Made a decision this year to really work on bettering my singing technique and note accuracy. We have a similar speaking voice and it really helps to see this from someone within the same range as yourself. Subbed!
This is super helpful. I've never seen semi-occlusion without the straw. This is a game changer!

Great job!
Number 1 video right now on KZread for finding your mix. I was having so much trouble with this... and now I just got it in 8 minutes and 27 seconds lol
Best explanation on the subject I have ever seen. I started out only knowing how to pull-up and belt in chest voice. With my voice strained, I started researching different approaches and found that humming and lip trills helped in finding those upper notes that can be sung without straining. But that's where my progress seemed to end.. the notes in between were weak and nothing out there seemed to click. Your explanation and this puffy cheek exercise seems like it might be the missing ingredient to help bridge the gap, because for the first time I'm starting to find that full connected sound I've been looking for. Thank you!
awesome thank you so much
So good to have a practical and understandable lesson with examples. Well worth the subscribe
Dude..this is amazing..wasted so much time on other videos..like hours but you nailed it. Great job man.
Amazing exercise . Amazing demostration!
OMG! I am speechless! You're amazing! Apparently, I actually discovered my mixed voice some weeks ago while playing with my voice, but I thought it was not what I needed to work on. I definitely got the feeling and position you are talking about. My sound is still weak, but I hope to improve it and make it powerful with practicing! Thank you a lot, liked it and subscribed! :D
Man, I am so blessed by your videos! After seeing how you are making it into the mixed voice I finally got the idea of what this thing is :) Before that it was just something I heard people are talking about, but it was a mystery for me)) haha After seeing you singing that mix voice it inspired me so much that I've started to practice it and in 3 days I have a progress. By the way - I find Roxane very cool song for practicing that voice, I still didn't figure out the puffy cheek exercise, for now it is easier for me to feel the mix voice when I'm singing louder, but my voice there isn't stable for now, but I think I just need to keep practicing to make the muscle stronger. Thank you very much, man! In those few videos you have shared so much wisdom with me, you cannot imagine :)
holy shit, this is the best video i've ever seen on mixed. i've struggled with this for years; constantly going through the scales, teaching myself, and trying to find what is typically vaguely described in various "tutorials." literally found my mixed within 2 minutes after trying this exercise - granted that the work i've already put in probably made it considerably easier. instantly subscribed. u deserve way more views

@@yousaf653 Mix voice can still have strain it depends of mixture dominance. Chest dominant mix voice cause straining, the balance one projects no strain, the heady one produce less to no strain but sometimes unhealthy and annoying.
This video made me understand more of how to do the mix voice. Some vids explained it, but never showed how to do it.

Hi Tyler, quick question. How do I know when I am singing in a mix voice or head voice? Not sure what the difference is between falsetto and head voice in males. Thanks for your time!
You are the best! I'm reaching notes that I've couldn't imagine hitting!
Bro, you definitely saved my voice. I am a guitarist who always liked singing but thought had the shortest vocal range. I even kinda damaged myself forcing too much the chest voice to reach a simple G4. Then, you come with this explanation and made my thought "I knew there was a way and I just couldn't materialize it before" and wow, I just wanna say thank you. Now I have something to work on and a new goal to reach.
