    Any moisture that gets in either the side tracks or underneath the glass will get trapped instead of being able to drain into the tray. It'll end up going mouldy as a result with either black mould or pink mould

    If you need to get rid of silicone, grab adhesive or anything like that, try multisolve from ct1. It removes stuff even where you can get in as it is a spray. Another use for this application is to spray it after above the surface of the bead you've done to give it that smooth, shinny sleak bead you've done. Banging product. (Ps, I am liking that vid so i am in that 30% you spoke of) 😊

    Thanks, for the first time I've managed to do some siliconing properly. A couple of things to add. I didn't have your first tool, so I cut an old credit card at the corners in a similar fashion to your tool, and it worked great. First job was with white silicone, and it looks fab (even the wife thinks so 😛 ). Second job was with clear silicone on glass shower wall - it was more tricky, as I couldn't actually see properly how it was going on, so I ended up with too much, and when I tried to remove the excess, it smeared a bit on the glass. Managed to tidy up ok with the side of the credit card, but any tips?

    I'm not sure what tool you mean 😆 the removal tools or the smoothing tool? It sounds like you've done pretty well though and it sounds like you already know where you could improve and that's just not putting down too much silicone initially. It's hard to judge though, especially if you only do it once in a blue moon

    Tip: I use WD40 to get rid of the residual mastic after scraping off as much as I can. It melts the silicon and leaves a clean surface. However you need to clean off the WD40 off with white spirits or similar because the new silicon will not seal to the WD40 surface.

  • @davewright9312

    Don't use white spirit as that to leaves a residue...methylated spirit is better

    Why no silicone on the inside of the shower? If you only do it on the outside, the water can get into the cracks and space between the shower glass/wall and the wall or floor of the shower along with dirt and debris and start mould? Isn't it better to stop the water from getting out of the shower at all? I'm not saying you're wrong or anything, I'm just curious, here in Sweden we seem to always have silicone on the inside, as far I've seen it at least.

  • @normanboyes4983

    @normanboyes4983

    The theory is that the shower base slopes towards the drain, by sealing on the outside any water will accumulate and drain out, whereas if you seal on the inside any area of seal failure will allow water in and it cannot get out.

    Norman hit the nail on the head here. All the manufacturers recommend just doing the outside. There's more chance of trapping water and mould growth, especially if the silicone starts to fail as it doesn't last forever 😅

    I could live with those “imperfections”. I’d need a magnifying glass to see them. I’ve had really good results with the soapy spray method when siliconing. Better by a good margin than tape or raw tooling. I’m interested in your view(s) on the downside. Also, not giving a thumbs up to a video one has chosen to watch to near the end is just fkn rude. You don’t have to agree a point to appreciate an effort made.
