What if you are doing vlogging/walking with the camera? - following the 180 degree shutter rule is catastrophic in these situations, you get so much motion blur, even if you are ninja walking (but for a vlog you want to walk naturally). It's not correctable using catalyst browse or warp stabiliser. What are your recommendations for handheld shots with natural walking / self filming? Also, you don't need to record all I frames for catalyst and I did not know about lens stabe disabling gyro data, makes sense and really good to know!

I know what you mean you definitely want to walk naturally😅 First I would choose the widest lens possible, because the wider the lens the less obvious the shake will get. Something like a 16mil or wider for full frame. Next turn on active stabilization if you have a sony this should help you a lot. Consider that the active Stabilisation crops in again so the wider the lens the better for this use case. Lastly you could use a tiny bit faster shutter speed which helps Catalyst Browse to get better results. But try to avoid warp stabilisier it gives you not the best results because it doesn’t use the gyro data at all. Gives you a very warpy looking result. You can also try to use Gyro flow it is free and a good alternative to catalyst browse. ✌🏼

@@AllinfilmmakerI've been playing around with this a bit last night, catalyst prepare is such a horrid piece of software, painfully slow, so many clicks to do anything, doesn't remember any settings, requires a subscription and just leaks huge amounts of ram and crashes if you stabilise more than a small handful of clips (I have M3 Max with 36gb of ram), what gives Sony! -- so I tried Gyroflow, which solves all the problems above but doesn't support IBIS, only unstabilised footage. Testing at 1/50s shutter, the output is pretty bad regardless, but the IBIS+catalyst seems to be a little bit better than gyroflow at 1/50s (anecdotally as I only filmed 10s clips to test), going to test this more at different shutter speeds and different stabilisation settings.

@@DigiDriftZone Hi Mate, sounds like a lot of troubles... Try to use Catalyst Brwose not Prepare, than you have simply to register with a normal Sony account and the interface is a lot cleaner. I work es well with the M3 Max but 128GB and another workstation and it works very smoothly. - Okay you made sure to choose the correct lens in GyroFlow (on the left side)? Try to play aswell with the horizon lock and dial in the other settings this should give you at least better results than using warp stabilizer. Let me know if it helped you. 👍

@@Allinfilmmaker Catalyst Browse is limited to a queue size of 1 clip at a time and it destroys your clips by re-saving them as 8bit instead of 10bit, otherwise it is the same exact app so I am not sure what you mean. GyroFlow does not support IBIS or Active Stabe at all, regardless of lens, there was some activity about a year ago to add IBIS support but seems progress has stalled.

@@DigiDriftZoneYou’re right with this one it is annoying and if you want 10bit you have to stick to prepare. But sadly i am not a developer from this software so i can’t change it. Gyroflow doesn’t support ibis but even if you turn it off you get in my opinion pretty good results and its free and stays 10bit.

In the clip at the end, these shots really were all made with hand held camera?? (Except the drone shots)
