How to Shoot Fast like Lars Anderson Tutorial

Ойындар

In this tutorial, we will teach the archery technique for breaking world records in rate of fire.
As of 2022, this is currently the fastest technique with a bow and arrow.
No historical claims here.
-Mack's Tactical Archery / @allofarchery
-Martin Sporri / alfarevoluzione
In Nov 26, 2012, Lars Anderson created the most watched archery video of that time in KZread history called "Reinventing the fastest forgotten archery". Since then, there has been a growing number of speed shooters for sport.
The fastest technique for rate of fire depends on the number of arrows shot, so this video will focus on the fastest technique to shoot 3 arrows, and one by one, not simultaneously.
When the number of arrows are increased significantly to 15 or more, shooting off of quivers will be preferred, because there is a limit on how many arrows you can hold in your hands. This video guide only focuses on the fastest technique to shoot 3 arrows, not how historically accurate it is.
Music: HOME we're finally landing
Special thanks to Summoning Salt!
Video Script:
The techniques explained in this video are inspired by historical sources of archery but the focus of this video is the fastest archery technique, not how historically accurate it is.
For the choice of the bow, most bows are suitable. however the fastest technique avoid compounds and olympic bows with an arrow rest, with modern sights or stabilizers.
The optimal bow here is a short and light bow, without a modern arrow rest. Although longbows can be used as well, they are more cumbersome to move around with. This technique is usually combined with running or walking so a shorter bow is preferred.
The ideal draw weight is something you can personally pull and shoot rapidly and all day. That being said, very heavy weights can still be used with this technique but your rate of fire will be more limited. For example, here is me shooting 125lbs with this technique but im shooting a lot slower mainly because of the draw weight. If your max draw weight is around 80lbs, then it is recommended to use 40-50lbs for this technique.
For the choice of the arrow, any traditional arrows designed for the weight of the bow is good. the arrow nock can be of any design but generally speaking the wider the taper is, the easier it is to speed shoot but standard nocks can still be shot rapidly
you can make special nocks that allow you to easily nock arrows but they are not necessary with practice feathers is prefered but vanes can be used if khatra is performed well.
you can have a wide variety of fletching designs, but generally speaking two fletchings are the fastest because as long as they are glued in a consistent orientation you can line them up to have an arrow magazine on your draw hand. the main problem with three fletchings is you have to pre rotate the nocks while looking at the nocks but with two fletchings, you can instinctively do this without looking at the nocks. that being said, if the nock is flat enough you can just pre rotate the nocks instinctively by feel, and then fletching does not matter anymore unfletched arrows are not recommended for longer distanced shooting
For the bow hand, this technique tilts the bow on the opposite side of the modern trad cant. So a right handed shooter would tilt their left hand counter clockwise, while a left handed shooter would tilt their right hand clockwise. in ideal conditions the bow arm should still give clearance to the string but this is not always possible when shooting 360 degrees while on the move. There are many variations of the draw hand, and it can be debatable which variation is faster.
variation 1:
The first one is based on the conventional slavic draw from the book arab archery. The Slavs have a peculiar draw which consists of locking the little finger, the ring finger, and the middle finger on the string, holding the index finger outstretched along the arrow, and completely ignoring the thumb. However, when you use the slavic draw, your thumb is available to grip arrows in the draw hand so you can carry an arrow magazine.
The arrow is placed on the opposite side of Olympic archery. From here on the arrow is nocked on the string, and you place your middle finger and ring finger on the string. the pinky is often ignored by speed shooters.
variation 2:
same as variation 1 except the arrows are held in between the index and middle finger. Martin prefers this technique.
there are other variations such as using the thumb draw but it is slower.
for the fastest archery technique, the shortest draw length, say 7 inches, willl give you the fastest recovery time but you should pull to full draw or almost full draw.
Finally for the release, side khatra is typically preferred to allow a wider range of arrow spines but if you just want the fastest time then no khatra is used.

Fascinating stuff. I really hope you can put all your nerd-energy into this topic. I would love to hear your thoughts on the following questions one day: - Which technique is the simplest to set up/prepare for? In tactical/combat/military comtexts, which technique is possible to do without looking at your fingers and while distracted? - Which technique strikes a good balance between possible draw weight and speed? - Which technique is the most reliable/foolproof as it pertains to dry-firing? I am sure that one could actually just estimate it. Dry-fires per 100 or 1000 arrows shot. That could also be further differentiated into novices and experts of these techniques. - Which technique is easiest to transition to from the perspective of a typical English Warbow shooter? Slanting the bow counterclockwise (as a right-handed shooter) sounds terrifying. Would the slavic draw allow for a regular clockwise slant with this speed technique? After all, the arrow is held in place by the index finger. - Which technique is also applicable and still fast when supplied from a quiver? Meaning, which technique can seamlessly transition to getting arrows from the quiver. Any difference there between getting arroes one-by-one or multiple at a time? - What is an arrow magazine?

Historically speaking, no, we do not have solid evidence of the combination of slavic + arrows held at nocks with draw hand. The closest source we have is from Arab archery, specifically: "Another way to do this stunt is by placing the arrows between the fingers of the right hand thus: the nock of each arrow between two fingers when the arrows are only three; if they be six, then place two arrows between each two fingers, or if they be nine, three arrows between each two fingers; or more as you are able. Then follow the rest of the operation as described in the previous paragraphs." however, we have no specifics on if the release is a thumb or finger draw, but it is assumed to be thumb since the slavic draw was described as "peculiar" by the author of Arab Archery It fascinates me why there is no solid mention of this technique in history, in the context of stunt shooting. in this video the focus is on the fastest archery technique, not how historically accurate it is

Question, does 2 fletch make the arrow less accurate? I ask because far as I k ow the fletch is literally just to create drag to make sure the point is first, so in theory should have a minimal effect... But I ask because reality doesn't always match theory and you'd know better than I.

Thanks for illustrating! I get the problem that when I release with my fingers in this style, the arrow cants during release and knocks against the bow towards the right. Only if Iinclude the thumb to release towards the right, the arrow flies free around the bow. How did you guys deal with this issue?

Hi! This is an awesome video! I subscribed to your channel because of it. I spent yesterday watching a bunch of other videos of yours and they are great! I especially liked your classification video. I have a couple questions if you could answer them I would really appreciate it. (please forgive my naivete since I don't know much of anything about archery, but I am desperate to learn) 1. What bow or bows does Lars Andersen use? In his hour and a half video "Lars Andersen reveals the TRUTH about the most viewed archery video ever made" at the 22:30 mark he has a hundred pound bow (too heavy for me) and I would like to know what his other two bows he has are. Could you please tell me what they are? I searched and searched and can't find the information. My Googlefu was weak I guess. 1. His "usual bow" 49 pounds, colored green and red - looks like a very short horse bow - do you know who made it and what it's called? 2. He has a white/tan bow that looks nearly identical to his usual bow which he does not discus but I think implies is his trick shooting bow. My guess is that it's his half strength bow for trick shooting and is 20-30 pounds. Do you know what type of bow this is and who makes it? Thank you very much for your help. Please keep making your videos they are amazing!

Ypu can actually shoot even faster. Holding the arrows in the bow hand, heads facing forwards (like you’re nocking it) means you can just pull a arrow from said grip to instantly nock it and fire with a single movement. This saves time when nocking. This technique was used by Comanche archers, and was proved so effective that soldiers at the time using firearms struggled to deal with them.

You should consider quad fletching or rotating your fletchings 90°. Your orientation of fletching forces the fletching to travel along the bow, creating inconsistencies. Fletching should never be exactly perpendicular to the bow, mostly for paradox consistencies. The dual fletching arrangement enduces a lateral force as the arrow leaves the bow. Edit, Note: Rotating your 2 fletching setup 90° will force the fletching to rid along your bow hand. Do not do this if you are using a hand rest or wearing an appropriate glove, or the fletching will embed itself in your hand.
