The best advice I ever heard was to always keep the first finger down on the correct note of that position, whether shifting or just playing. That way even if you get the fingering right when you shift or are getting the intonation of the position you're in, you're actually sure your hand is ACTUALLY in the correct place and the intonation work will actually mean something and build repeatable accuracy.

Totally! I would still only do it in fast passages, though, because when you vibrate you will need to lift up all the remaining fingers, so that you can vibrate freely
I don’t even know how to play violin but I’m about to dive into all these videos...
You read my mind! I was going to request this! Great tip! Thank you 👍👍

Yay! Thank you!
what about shifting with different fingers, more precisely the note C 1st position 2nd finger to note D 3rd position 1st finger, which finger makes the shift? i keep the 2nd, go to 3rd and after arrive i change to 1st finger? or every time i must put 1st shift first on B and go to 3rd with it?
Love it!! I find Sevcik Op.8 extremely helpful for shifting. Could you possibly make a video sharing the violin exercises that helped developed your technique for both hands? Need to know your secrets haha 😜

Lol, as far as purely technical exercises, I've basically already shared them all: Scales and Schradieck 😂 Will check out Sevcik op.8!
Congrats the editor
Please make a video about detache!

At the end of the video you mentioned putting something under the chin rest for easier shifting down to lower positions. Is that for being able to grip the violin so it does not slip during the shift? I have never had that happen so that’s interesting to me.
❤
how many changes of positions are there in total on the violin?
👍😃
What's the stuff that you add on top of the chin rest and the felt pads?
