i actually quite like your sharpening system, quite intuitive and user friendly. glad pepole like you are out there to make stuff like this as it brings the art of sharpening to a bigger audience. shame that all the things that make this system eliminates are the things i like about hand sharpening. the mess, the different grits i have to flatten. the water everywhere. good for people who may be ocd about mess. the float glass block is about the only thing id consider buying as it looks so pretty. also thanks for the spoon gouge tutorial........i stumbles across it too late to save my gouge after i tryed "sharpening it". :(

Very clear demo/tutorial, thank you. Should one look for the burr only on the first grit session, or look for a burr on each session thereafter, until one hones on the strop? Hi Richard, I was just scrolling through the comments and noticed that I had responded, but re reading your question I see that I misunderstood your question! You weren’t asking about the angle of the bevel, but the position of the knife across the strops / glass blocks. There is no right or wrong, simply what feels comfortable for you. Generally a 45 degree across the surface is my preference and what feels natural :) sometimes I’ll be more or less than that. Having done it so many times I don’t think, I just do it autonomously and never noticed the different starting and ending positions haha :)

You can do, but it won’t last or be sharp enough to leave you a good finish or offer you the ease of use that a sharp knife will! A sharp knife is a safe knife, the more refined the edge the longer it will last too. They cut predictable and with less effort.

I tried to email you and it failed and bounced back. How do I go about getting information on the sharpening tools? Thanks. EDIT: never mind, it was a user error. I miss-spelled your name. :) you should have an email now.

Just feel for the burr with your nail.

The issue is that it’s easy for someone who doesn’t know what they are doing to mistake a burr catching your nail for actually a damaged edge catching your nail.
