How to Sharpen a Technical Lead Pencil

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This how- to art video shows the proper way to sharpen a technical pencil. The technical pencil is a great drawing tool for fine detail. It can get a very sharp point for crisp detail. The metal lead holder holds a long thick lead which can be sharpened to super sharp point. This is great for detail.

Hi Again- I always tilt the pencil sharpener off to the side at an angle and this eliminates breaking the point. I hope this helps!

You can use a razor blade or knife and cut the tips to a chisel or horseshoe shape. This will give you more line size options with just the single tool depending ln the angle you hold it. If you want it pointed, it is just as easy to achieve with 8 quick scrapes using a blade..4 to square it up, and 4 more to take down those remaining edges. Many people will simply rotate the pencil while using it to maintain a sharp point.

I bought a Pacific Arc sharpener and it did NOTHING but break the lead. So disappointing. The sharpening mechanism did not engage at all but from you I learned about end of pencils and how to sharpen with that. iIt worked great, THANKS

The lead holder you showed was a Koh i Noor 5611, right? Was it a vintage metal bodied one or a modern plastic? You should check out the Tru-Point lead pointer if you do much with the lead holders. they are considered to be the best, and while they aren't made anymore, are readily available. I use several lead holders for my daily writing needs, as I am totally worthless artistically, and usually us H hardness lead in some vintage Venus, Bruning, and Koh I Noor lead holders, and like them a lot. I have a couple of 2mm vintage Criteriums (a quite large solid aluminum piece) on its way from France right now. These are great fun, and it's good to see people talking about them. I have about 25 gross of various lead I have, which at the rate I go through it, will last several lifetimes (: Good video.
