Best to sharpen hooks dragging POINT FIRST on the file. If you drag the hook point last, you will create multiple tiny burrs around the point. Or at least, finish sharpening point first.

Correct! I was going to comment the same thing.

@@danbasara4547 yes, just like we draw a knife edge into the stone to sharpen.

Yep- you want to carry the bur away from the point- not pile them up on tip of the hook. Just like you sharpen a knife.

Interesting how much bad information there is out there about sharpening. Point into the stone or file is the correct way, not like this video shows.
Thanks, Lee! I really appreciate the tips you and Robbie provide. I also really appreciate you sharing those 'hard' days, where you do everything you can but the muskies just aren't cooperative. I used to really beat myself up on those days. Now, I try to learn from those days and chalk it up as a learning experience. Thanks!
Great demo!
Great tutorial. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for videos like this - I know they dont get the big numbers but they are extremely useful!

I hope someday I can actually use a 13/O hook to catch a fish! Good tip about the WD-40

You should always use a hook as small as you can. Best for hook up percent and injures the fish less if you plan on releasing it.
What is the biggest sizes of your treble hook that you're holding? Please answer me question.

Owen Jansen, maybe this winter when we are all dying of Cabin Fever. I'm sure there are plenty of good ones out there already though.
Pushing away creates a bur on the end of the hook.

Ya i just ruin my hooks everytime i try to sharpen them , musky fishing is the worst.....
Little details make all the difference.
I don't trust myself with a hook file, I use a hook sharpener with a groove. I'm going to have to get myself one of those and practice on my buddies baits.

Ha, just keep the angle very slight and watch where the metal disappears from. Lee
would a Dremel 7300 work for sharpening hooks
