    If you strop it on a leather strop with green or white compound, you'll get it even sharper.

    My way is so much easier. I buy 100 knives at a time and when they get dull I throw them away. And then I had a coffee and woke up to reality a sharpener might be a better idea.

    Dos that Buck 119 say 100 year anniversary on the blade? I have one that says 100 year anniversary on the blade and besides this one it’s the only one I have seen with etching on the blade. All the other ones I have seen say 75 year anniversary on the handle I’m wandering what’s up with that?

    I have a long blade Buck knife which isn't that hard to sharpen, but it don't hold it's edge very long before you have to do it again. I had one folding knife by them which was impossible for either myself or others I knew to sharpen. That knife may still be around my house somewhere, but I stopped using it because of that.

    @@f.mentzel2126 ok. Fair enough. I love my modern supersteels as much as anyone. Why I classify Buck’s 420hc and also 1095 as awesome is they take an amazing edge and if need be, can be easily resharpened in the field. Can’t do that with m390, vanax or 20cv for example. Just my opinion

    The paperwork that came with my Buck 119 says to "Sharpen the Buck way at 15 degrees each side". Why do you use a 21 degree edge bevel? My guess is that is a little stronger to guard against chipping and especially rolling. I am sure the Edgepro works and is easy to use, but I don't know about spending a lot of money for one. There is something about hand sharpening that gives me a feeling of satisfaction. Maybe that is just me. Edgepro would benefit a novice knife sharpener the most, IMO.

  • @thechemtrailkid

    @thechemtrailkid

    @Jay M Not really. There's no need to hit the whole bevel while you're in the field. If stropping doesn't bring it back just micro bevel. You don't need a steady hand at all for that.

    From @csh 62: "The paperwork that came with my Buck 119 says to "Sharpen the Buck way at 15 degrees each side". Why do you use a 21 degree edge bevel?" Same question here. Everyone seems to like 20 degrees for this type of knife so I'd love to know why Buck reccommends 15 degrees.

    Is it dangerous for my Diamond Matrix stones if I quickly dunk them individually in soapy sink water a few times while scrubbing them off with a pink eraser? That’s how I’ve been cleaning them because it works well.

    I follow the Paul Sellers path and use windex as my honing fluid on my diamond stones. It is cheap and works extremely well. So do not worry, not dangerous at all.

    A strong magnet under the place where you rest your knife on will hold it rock solid so you have exactly the same angle every time www.first4magnets.com/rectangular-c35/50-x-25-x-10mm-thick-n42-neodymium-magnet-32-2kg-pull-p3611#ps_1-2628 This fits perfectly with a bit of hot glue or any you have.

    I've been sharpening freehand on stones and hones since I was 14 years old, that's 41 years. The Edge Pro is still a quantum leap beyond anything I can do with a blade freehand. Precise angles, well chosen abrasives and an understanding of the human element have allowed Ben Dale to engineer an almost perfect aid to the sharpening process. After a brief learning curve, you will sharpen faster and more accurately with the Edge Pro than you've ever been able to with any other method.

    Lol. A sharpening stone. You must not know how to use a knife if you think sharpening stones are what you use. You use a stone and you'll mangle the shit out of your blade and make sure it'll never be sharp again. You're supposed to use ceramic or porcelain, and then finish it with leather.

    Do you have a tool to sharpen them that doesn't cost more than the knife itself? Lol these sharpening videos always use something most people aren't gonna have.

  • @EdgePro

    @EdgePro

    Hi Krissy I make the videos partially for instruction, but also as a form of advertisement for my knife sharpeners. I understand it's more than most people want to spend on a knife sharpener but it's extremely effective and for people who use knives all the time it's a relatively small investment to make sure you have sharp knives for the rest of your life.

    We have a 1 knife free sharpening demo if you're interested. We're not a sharpening service but you'll be able to see for yourself what the sharpening system is capable of. It's always easier to let someone else do the work for you but if you learn to do it yourself you can become more self-reliant. Just Mail it to Edge Pro Inc. PO Box 95 Hood River Oregon 97031. We've been in business since 1989. Thanks for watching.

    I hope Buck does better than Kershaw with their sharpening service. About three years ago, I sent a knife back to Kershaw to be sharpened. They took about three months to get it back to me. My guess is they do this to discourage people from taking advantage of their in-house sharpening.
