I MISS MELANIE SO MUCH. However I AM THANKFUL HER TUTORIALS CAN STILL HELP ME CREATE EVERYTHING I LEARNED FROM THIS BEAUTIFUL ANGEL💓💓💓🙏🏻🙏🏻 WE LOVE YOU MELANIE
Melanie’s tutorials are all so perfect and easy to follow! Thank you for keeping her tutorials available. We love Melanie.
Thank you Melanie Ham for all of your clear helpful videos. Rest In Peace and God bless your family. 🙏
Thanks so much for showing start to finish. Your tips on fabric cutting were very helpful and most videos skip that step. I am new to sewing and the little things matter. Thanks so much.
Hi Melanie! Love your beginner sewing tutorial videos!!! And I LOVE that you chose beginner friendly projects that can be used in our “everyday” lives. Please keep the tutorials coming! Thanks, Melanie
Love this, I have had fabric set aside to make napkins with for over a year now. I have no excuses now!! Going to hop to it! Love the mitered corners. Might want to mention as a reminder for beginners to use a newer sharp blade for the rotary cutter to cut through multi layers of fabric. Learn so much from you, thanks bunches for the refresher on the basics of sewing!
I have been working on napkins for a couple weeks and with this video I was finally able to get them to look nice! Thank you Melanie
Just the video that I needed! I was going to buy some of these fabric napkins but now I'm excited to make them my self! Thank you ❤
Thank you, Melanie. I watched dozens of mitered corner videos and you video is my fav. Especially thanks for introducing me to MY OWN blind hem foot. Yes it came with my machine and OMG, it's awesome and makes the perfect hem.
Love this technique for the corners! On hard to press fabrics, when making creases, I love using a tailors clapper to flatten fabric and give it a nice sharp crease.
I am completely new to sewing and I’m absolutely loving all of your videos!!! They are fab, and easy to follow! Thank you so much!!!!!!!
In an attempt to go green, my mother and I will be making cloth napkins for family gatherings. I have previously made napkins for home use using another method that wasn’t as simple as yours. But this method will be my go to from now on. Thanks for such great tutorials always 💓
Beautiful mitered corners! I've been sewing for over 50 years and that's the first time I've seen them done that way. I can't wait to try it! Thank you!
Amazing! Very handy....I'll be taking your advice for festive spring and summer napkins. Thank you so much 🤗🥰👍
Thanks for another great learning video Melanie! Just learning to sew at 62 and really appreciate how you take the time to explain things so clearly so even a beginner can follow along. Best wishes for your health & happiness in 2021!
This was wonderfully clear, thank you! Made my first napkin last night and knew I needed more help, this will do wonders!
On how I wish you and You Tube were around 60 years ago when I started sewing. Metered corners were never this easy to understand. Thank you.
Thanks so much for your clear and helpful instructions. I’m using a linen cotton blend and my mitered corners are perfection - which I have never achieved before. Makes me happy to produce a set of handmade vs homemade napkins.
Melanie, I cannot tell you how many tutorials, how many frustrating hours I spent trying to master mitered corners, before I found your tutorial. Drawing the line across twice the seam allowance was the key! So much more accurate than going by a million fold lines! Now I can finally sew a professional looking napkin without having to deal with excessive fabric in the corners because I wasn’t sewing in far enough because my first fold was too shallow or some other minor imperfection. Thank you Melanie! You’re a great teacher!
You are a fantastic educator and share your process in such accessible steps. Thank you!
Thanks, Melanie! Your tutorials are always so easy to follow! 😊 That's a fancy machine you've got. I'm working on my Mother's old Singer machine. It's about 70 yrs. old. I actually learned to sew on my Nana's old treddle machine! Those were so much fun! ❤
Awesome tutorial!! Loved those mitered corners!!
You are so great, Melanie. No wasted words, easy to follow and pleasant too! Thank you for being the best tutorial available!
I am so heartbroken you are gone. Thank you for teaching me so much Melanie. ❤️
I recently discovered your site and I love it. I inherited my aunt's sewing machine and this is all new to me and you are a wonderful teacher. I want to also say I saw you video on your cancer. I too am a strong believer in prayer. It has helped my brother through his. We prayed to St. Pio every day and he answered our prayers. 12 hour surgery and 6 organs removed and he is going GREAT. I will ask St. Pio to help you as well. Thank you again for being such a wonderful sewing teacher.
Thank you for sharing your techniques for acheiving beautiful results.
These are clear and thorough instructions; very easy to follow. I just finished my napkins and it wasn't nearly as difficult as imagined!
Excellent video tutorial ... clear, precise, to-the-point. And what a bonus to know about the other foot. I have one but have never used it. These mitered corners certainly finish any project in such a professional looking way. Thanks so much.
Thanks Melanie. I just discovered your channel and was thinking that you are the best teacher. Bless your family for keeping your tutorials available.
Melanie, I lost your tutorial for a while and tried 3 other methods. Your way is by far the best! So glad I found you again. I am making twelve linen napkins for our Christmas table.
Thank you Melanie.I am new to sewing and your videos are most helpful🙏🏼
By far the best tutorial on this & boy, I’ve watched enough. This one: clear instructions, clear visuals. I’ve done it!
Thank you so much for this wonderful video. I have read so many posts here on KZread how to make them but yours is the best. I have been sewing for years and never knew how to use my seam gauge. Now I do thanks to you. I did find you are right about the pressing and marking everything well. It does make life easier. Thanks again.

Very nice :) Thank you!
Thanks, this Is great!😘💓💓💓
Hi Melania .. very nice tutorial specially the leftover fabric idea. I'm wondering how to clean this fabric from hard stains?
Your seam gauge will work a bit better if you run the sliding bar on the outside folded edge. The end result of this technique is good. Thanks for sharing.
This is really helpful! I was following a Martha Stewart book for this and it was confusing to follow. Thank you for uploading.
I had my napkins cut and pressed already but wanted to learn how to do a mitered corner so they looked great! This was the answer to my question. Loved the close up shots - my eyesight isn't that great when looking on the computer and that's with computer glasses.
Still keeping you in my prayers Melanie-I hope youre doing well🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼
nice cutting tools
thank you!!!! I finally get it!1
THANK'S FOR THAT NOW I LEARNED HOW TO SEW IM A SUPPORTIVE GIRL FROM PHILIPINES😊

HELLO
The seam gauge 🤦🏻♀️. I never used it cause I had no idea how. But then there’s Melanie showing me the works. Thanks for your time in dedicating these tutorials. Can’t wait to start sewing and finally I’ll get to use my seam gauge.🥳
New sub to your channel, finally found another sewing person here on KZread, few and hard to find. Tfs. 🌷🌷🌷
Can you tell me what is the fabric you are pressing on? Thank you for your great video
Thanks for the tip to sew a line down each raw edge before washing the fabric to prevent raveling. I always have a fight with all those strings when I take the fabric out of the dryer.

just fold them into quarters and trim all the threads. much easier than you think!
I am sure I have watched every utube tutorial on mitered corner. This is the only one I can rely on for the result that brings me joy. Thank you
What is the pressure foot that I should use in sewing table cloth and napkins?
You will be missed, Melanie. RIP Sweet lady.
Curious why you dont do mitered corners as you go, similar to a quilt?
Thank you. You just showed me how to use that small inch gadge.
Miss you Melanie
Greetings from a newbie from Algeria
What model of juki machine do you use?
Thank you for the great tutorial Melanie. Making mitered corners is something I need help with. I’ll let you know how this works out for me.

Super cool tutorial
What about using the twin needle for the finishing stitch?
Will any cotton fabric work??
FYI you can buy a table cloth longer than you need for the table you can use the extra fabric to make matching napkins.
I sure miss you and your videos.
What is that mat for ironing.
I need to replace my machine that’s over 45 years old! What is the best non computerized machine now? Thanks.
Hello! How many napkins does 1 yard yield? 4?
Love this tutorial! But I’m having issues... my top layer, the hem, is getting bunched as I sew. So when I get to the corner I have extra fabric on top and it folds over top of the mitered corner and looks so bad. Please someone tell me what I’m doing wrong!

Not sure, but it helps to check fabric to see which side stretches and start sewing on the side with the least stretch, might help
Mine are 16 1/2 because i had a little bit of the raggady edges after the wash 😅
Those are some beautiful napkins, Melanie. Your creativity really inspired me and the rest of the community. What do you recommend when making baby blankets?

Byron Chandler so does that mean you’re going make napkins?
What is the name of the used fabric?
You're so cool.
I would love it if you could post a tutorial on how to make pillow covers with an invisible zipper.
I miss you Melanie. 😢
Did you mean to recommend the Janome 7318 Magnolia? It is treadle powered. The Janome 7330 Magnolia is electronic.
