Hey, you make it look easy! I'd always heard that zippers were hard to install, so I've been putting it off. Turned 70 yesterday. Enough waiting; I'm gonna try it.

@@sirishaheely6451 Yes! My zipper fear is history. By now I've installed long ones, short ones, "invisible" ones. I've replaced zippers in old clothes, and put zippers in new creations. I recently replaced the zipper in my wife's old jeans, the ones she loves so much. Which meant sewing through several layers of denim. Success!
Imagine you made this video 9 years ago and today it helped me move to the next level in my sewing. Thank you

I've been sewing for a long time (self-taught, sadly) and I have never seen such an EASY way to do zippers. Thank you SO much for this! I particularly love your second method. I cannot believe I never thought to do that before. Comes with being an amateur, of course.
Excellent tutorial, my first zipper came out pretty good. 👍

OMGGGGG tell us about your sewing projects!
I learned to sew in high school DECADES ago. Needless to say, I learned quickly why it's important to cut items on the grain. I never learned how to sew a zipper from Home Economics. I tackled my first zipper for my prom dress from a Vogue pattern. Several packages of broken needles later, surprisingly the dress turned out beautifully (for me). That experience kept me from EVER sewing a zipper on a garment for over 20 years. Last year, I sewed a zipper into a beautiful maxi skirt veeeeeeerrrry slllllloooooooowwwwlllllyyyyy. I also took a zipper class at Joann Fabrics last year and still had a great fear of sewing in zippers. I've collected several items to make colorful wristlets with matching zippers years ago and it all just sat in a box, because of my horrible fear of sewing zippers. I told you all of that to say this, YOUR video alone has been the SIMPLEST zipper installation video I have EVER seen and if I was near you I'd give you the BIGGEST hug I could. THANK YOU for this. I'm sharing your video with any and everyone I can. Again...thank you!

I had Home Economics in high school too! Too bad they don't still teach that. We learned the basis of cooking, nutrition, sewing basics and basic finance to run a household. It was very practical and useful. This was a great refresher!

Ned Lee I took Home Economics in the 7th or 8th grade (wayyyy back in ‘78-‘79). It was a requirement for girls. And the boys had to take a “Shop” class where they got to make a tool box and bird houses using drills, hammers, table saws. I agree with you that schools should include more of Home Economics including how to fix things around your house, see, cook and ALSO how to manage finances and avoid debt, and keep a good credit rating.. No one ever taught me any of those last things.. I had to learn the hard way. I love this video and channel! New subscriber now!!

"That's when you know you're a sewing nerd" 😄😄 Thanks so much for the video! I feel so much less intimidated by sewing zippers now!
You do an excellent job of zippers. I have been sewing for over 45 years and I still like to watch "how it's done", even though I've sewn many zippers in my life time. Thanks for the inspirational way of making it easy to do.
Thank you so much, I have never sewn in a zipper but today I did two. Perfect explanation.
I can't believe you made that dress for your daughter, it's SO GOOD!
Hey Dana, I just sewed my first "hidden" zipper with your tutorial and it turned out pretty well! Your explanation is really comprehensible even for beginners like me... thank you and keep going! Lena

That’s the only way I have ever used a seam ripper on anything! That’s how I was taught in my Home Ec classes. The little ball always goes on the bottom so you don’t make holes in whatever you are sewing! I’ve been sewing on a machine for 43 years! Before I had a machine my mother taught me to sew cloths by hand! I started sewing Barbie Doll cloths, by hand & went on to my own cloths! Believe me..there are so very many short cuts you can learn that most professional teachers won’t tell you! They gasp at the thought of a short cut!
4:18 haven't slept for 2 days, been hyperfixating over sewing and omg you made my night! Your voice feels like when my mom has to explain which container i have to put the soap in the laundy machines. Love u

I just started sewing and everyone was scaring me about adding the zipper but this makes it look attainable, hopefully I’ll do a good job. Thanks for the video¡
Thank you so much for this awesome tutorial! You're a great teacher! I've stayed away from projects with zippers because my zippers always came out looking crooked & wonky. You've inspired me to try again! Also, I love those little clippies!! Hugs, Vina
thank you!!i was very nervous to install a zipper until I saw your video, Thank you, it worked out great!!
Hi Diana, I'm just a beginner, I'm so glad I came across your tutorials. Thanks to you I was able to make my first two sets of pillows to decorate my living room along with panels and a small accent pillow with the zipper.
Thank you so much! I've been trying to teach myself how to sew and hated how my first zippers looked. This makes it looks so easy and stress free!
You are so great at teaching! I just love your teaching style. I have been terrified of sewing with a zipper for so long, but I am ready, and EXCITED to do it!
You are a fantastic teacher. You explain things in detail, and I love that you show more than one option. Thank you so much.
Simplest, most straightforward explanation I have found so far about putting in a zipper. Thanks so much!
I discovered your channel earlier this year. You have completely changed my sewing life. You are amazing. Please keep doing what you are doing.
Kristi beat me to it - flip your seam ripper over and put the red ball toward your stitches. It works much better, but most people use it the wrong way. Great video, thank you for sharing!
Dana thanks for these useful and easy to follow videos. I'm a Mum that sews a few projects, mainly for my kids. You are my go-to for all sewing tutorials.
I did a little sewing when my daughter was young, avoiding anything that required a zipper. Now, I'm older and wanting to learn to sew again. I am so excited at the prospect of finally sewing a zipper. I LOVE your youtube tutorials, which I just discovered. You are the kind of teacher I wish I had, but having access to your videos is the next best thing. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise, and making it fun, as well!
Why is it when you sew with a sewing machine it feels relaxing?

Totally agree! I think it's meditative.
Thanks for the video. It has been years since I had to sew in a zipper. Thanks for the refresher course! I learned how to sew in high school, way back in the early seventies. It has served me well. Thanks again. I think that things like sewing and making your own stuff is part of what’s missing from society.
What a great tutorial! You really took the zipper-fear away. It make so much sense to install them your way. Thanks so much, can't wait to try it for myself.
Thank you so very much for your tutorial I have put in zips before but it always ended up looking messy because of trying to get around the top of the zip but you have shown me how to do it without encountering the zip head now I think I'll finally feel more confident inserting a zipper in my skirts. Thanks
I've gotten very creative trying to use closures that are even more difficult just to avoid sewing in a zipper! Now I can use the zippers I've cut out of dog beds, cushions, etc. Thank you, thank you, for this tutorial.

Your instructions were very clear and easy to follow. Thank you so much for such an excellent video!
I flunked my home economics class in jr. high cuz I couldn’t get the zipper right in my skirt. This was back in the late 1960’s. All these years have gone by, and zippers have intimidated me! Watching this video made me realize how easy this can be! I am going to go sew a zipper! Thank you Dana!
I love you Dana, you're as sweet as they come. I am a 62 year old woman who loves to sew but needs a lot of instruction. You've taught me so much already. Thank you.
I KNEW there had to be an easier way to do that! Thank you so much. I just wish I'd been clever enough to find your tutorial earlier! You are awesome!
So very happy with your explanation ! Thank you so much for making this video , never could get the hang of zippers ... think this clears it up ! What a relief 😅
Greetings from across the pond! I came across this video browsing through the "how to's" for some sewing projects I've set for myself: bespoke hunting and camo gear that just doesn't exist ready made up. I have a pretty good can-do attitude already and I gotta say your "it's so easy!" presentations give me even more confidence to attack some things I would have paid someone else to do. Now I'm subbed to your channel, enjoying your other videos and my head is exploding with fresh ideas! Thank you!
Dana, your channel is the best!! I've been watching your videos and I've now made 7 throw pillows with zippers! You made it so easy to follow along. No zipper fear anymore! Can't wait to make the next project from your channel. Keep up the great work :-)
Thank you thank you thank you! I haven’t sewn in a while and Ive always been afraid of zippers! The hidden zipper tutorial was amazing. Thanks!

Thank you so much. Such clear, precise instructions! I've watched about 10 KZread videos on how to sew a zipper, and none of them were as good as your step by step instructions. I particularly appreciated the close ups of the work as you were sewing and the steady pace of your speech. You are an excellent teacher (and seamstress too, of course!). Thank you again.
