HOW TO SETUP YOUR BALL PYTHON EGG INCUBATION BOXES

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

I did 1 1/2 months of testing with my new incubator to make sure the egg boxes kept the perfect temperature and humidity levels for my ball python eggs. See what I found out!

    I gotta question! I’ve never heard of making sure the embryos are towards the top of the egg when being candled, I’ve always heard that you’re suppose to mark them in the position they were laid and keep them that way. Would you be able to give me any further background knowledge on that? It would be greatly appreciated!

    Mark them how they're laid,... assuming the embryo is on the top or close to it. Eggs can be rolled after being laid. It doesn't need to be exactly due north, but close. Naturally the embryos attach to the top side of the egg. The theory is that eggs incubating face down could succumb to umbilical tangles or ripping away from the yolk. I also read eggs incubated embryo down had a post hatch mortality rate much higher (37% vs 4%)

    This maybe a dumb question but how do you run the probe into the incubator?? Is there a spot in the back to run it through from the thermostat? or do you drill a small hole? Or just run in through the door along top and then down to the actual spot you want it placed. I couldnt quite tell in the video. Looked like it was off to the right side of incubator then down to where you have it placed.

    There is a predrilled hole in the top corner you slide it through. I just let it hang about midway down to get the most even temp

    Do you use air holes in your hatch boxes or totally sealed. Also have you noticed having to open your boxes after they have been set? Thanks

    No air holes at all. Completely sealed. I do usually open them once towards the end of incubation because of how much condensation builds up at that point. Haven't had any issues so far.

    Do you keep the incubator hooked up to any type of UPS or anything, in case of a power failure?

    Excellent question! I do! Just a basic Apc ups you would use for a computer works. I think I use a 650va

    I don't change temps. Pick one a stick to it. You can incubate anywhere between 88-90. I try to keep mine around 89-89.5

    I got a question. Do you think those incubator from zoo med and such would work for two or three clutches? Your diy is actually how I found your channel originally lol

  • @SNKELTD

    @SNKELTD

    If you're doing 5-6 clutches or less I 100% recommend using the diy incubator I show on my channel. It's foolproof and easy to replace failed parts. I actually have an updated version of the video coming out in a few weeks but you can search for the old one. I haven't heard good things about those store bought incubators.

    I really don't see a downside to it. Redundant heaters, 100% humidity, and the body of water retains heat when you open the lid

    Haha, that's the strangest question I've had to date 🤣 Haha. Yeah. I don't really pay too much attention, but I'd bet it's 50/50 pointy to more blunt
