How to Setup Unity for Oculus Quest Development and Pushing Your First Game To the Device

As many of you may know I got an Oculus Quest not too long ago as well as approved to the Oculus Start program for getting my new game into their platform, because of these things I decided to start a new series of videos as I show you and teach you what I've been learning as I work on my own VR projects.
In this video I focus on going through the environment setup to work with Oculus Quest and also push an example scene to the actual device. Also Be sure to enable development mode by using the Oculus App and connecting it to your device.

As it compiled the project first on an adroid platform and then another compilation into glasses, so I have a feeling that the graphics have deteriorated and the whole thing is not sharp. @@dilmerv I did it ! After searching and searching I've found an extra info that should be useful, so I share it with you : You need to be sure that the OVR camera is set to oculus quest not go/gear vr. In my case it was set to Go. You need also have a plugin folder in the "assets" directory. Inside this folder you need to have an Android Folder. The manifest you spoke about have to be inside. If not (it was also my case), the regenation option you mention work. With those two things ok for me, my problem was solved. Thnks again for you help and your tutorials I can now look further :)

    Great tutorial! One question: How do you transfer the app onto the Quest? All the tutorials I've seen, yours included, test the app via a cable from the development computer. Also, my app is proprietary. I have no intention of putting it on the store. EDIT: Looking at more videos, it appears as though your computer may recognize the Quest as a drive and it's just a matter of transferring the app or app folder onto the Quest. Please advise if it's more involved than that. Thanks!

  • @dilmerv

    @dilmerv

    4 жыл бұрын

    Correct normally what I do is just connect the usb-c and that’s the only way I see it working other than submitting to the store which sounds like you won’t be doing. All you need to do is enable developer mode through the oculus app and then connect your oculus via usb-c, Unity will recognize it and just build and run the app.

  • @appliedclinicalvr8533

    @@dilmerv Not quite sure I understand. Let me rephrase. After I build the development version of my app, can I transfer it to the headset via USB-C cable and then detach the cable and play the app? The Quest would be useless to me if I had to tether it to my computer. But I'm going to guess that, like developing iOS apps, there is a limit as to the number of devices a development version of the app can play on. Thanks!

  • @dilmerv

    @dilmerv

    4 жыл бұрын

    Once you connect it via USB-c what it does it creates an application that is installed on the device, the connecting part is for Unity to connect and install the app but once you disconnect the device the app is still left in the device because at that point it is installed in the operating system. So yes you don’t need to have the USB-c cable connected :)

    I would look at the pivot points on the controller game object and make sure nothing is offset from there

    I had a similar issue and it was due to not having the java development kit installed properly, also make sure that it is part of the components that are enabled when you install Unity, look also at your java home in your environment variables.

    I had this issues when I was playing around with the settings and I ended up reseting the Player, and Quality under player settings. Just click the tiny gear on the top right corner to reset. you may have to go back to Dilmer's Quest setup video again to ensure you have the non defaults set right.

    You missed to mention to enable Developer Mode on the Quest/device. See here: developer.oculus.com/documentation/quest/latest/concepts/mobile-device-setup-quest/ Or isn't that necessary anymore?

    It is required and without it the quest won't work when trying to deploy the build to the device. Thanks for mentioning this so everyone else knows :)

    Yeah me too, blue screened me twice. I think it has to do with switching the texture compression (Intel intel i7 8700k)
