This tutorial briefly goes over the different settings, where to find them and what they mean. A how-to on using and programming the TLC200 Pro by Brinno. This is a long-lasting battery timelapse HDR camera that can be placed outside in the rain and snow(with plastic housing) for weeks at a time. It's a good camera with a relatively OK picture quality.
We go over interval variation, timer function, picture quality settings, HDR and I'll even give a brief review on the focus mechanism. This is an instructions manual video.
All you need is 4 AA batteries and an SD card!

dude. thank you for this. so incredibly helpful. you saved me hours of reading.
Thank you, this video is way better than the User Manual!
Thanks so much RD, you made my day since I'm setting this up today. Great video.
Thank you your tutorial was very good and clear.
Thank you for this video, its appreciated.
A very interesting and informative review than you. May I ask what the best timing settings would be for a 8 month construction project. Just to capture start to finish in general detail.
Great video explanation! I just got done with a 5wk long mural and I took a separate video daily. They're all saved on my PC & I'm curious if you know what's the best program or app to combine to create the movie? I'd appreciate your help in pointing me in the right direction.
Hi will be using this to capture the construction of home from start to finish 6 months. Any suggestions in what setting I should use ? thanks so much
pretty darn cool
Great video, thanks for doing :)

Hallo and thanks for the video, thanks to it I just bought the tlc2000 and i Have a question: i need to install it tomorrow on a construction site. i just need the camera to record form 8.00 am to 8.00 pm every day for some months. i dont need the nights. if i use the timer function the camera record just one sequence fom from 8.00 to 8.00 or every day from 8.00 to 8.00. I mean: the camera records just once and then i need to press OK everytime or she turns on automatically every day at that time till I turn it off? I need to be sure because I will install it in a remote location and I cannot check or turnit on every day. thankyou very much
this video is great
Great video. Very helpful. When switching off to replace batteries and you start it again. Do you just join them together after its processed on your computer if its a long time lapse. It will be about 6-8 months for us? Is there software you use to put all the smaller processed clips together? Thanks

If I remember correctly, this camera will automatically make each day a short compiled video clip of the images from that day. You will need to use a video editor to compile the day clips. This can be done very easily and quickly with any video editor, even 8 months worth.
Thank u so much 👍
Do I have to do anything special with the SD card? It says that it’s recording. It does not play into my I pad. So I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. Thanks.
good question , how many second can record between every hour ? also , can I set it to record every 30 minutes ? thank You .
Hi, I am having trouble uploading the images to my Mac, do you have any suggestions
Thanks!
Thanks mate
This is the most useful guide I could find so thank you. I have a QUESTION: When you did the focus adjustment on the standard lens, I noticed you did it in a darkened light. I'd like to know how far away were you from your subject - I think a picture frame. Also, can I assume that once you have it set for that distance, will it be a good focus for much longer distances ..? ie a building site..? Many thanks..!!!

Hey, I've used this camera exclusively for construction sites. It will definitely work for that. Keep in mind that it's a low res camera and isn't the easiest thing in the world to focus.
Can you use a microphone with this Brinno? I’ve been trying and haven’t gotten any sound to record with a plug-n-play, battery-free microphone.
Very nice video. Are you happy with the quality of the camera? Is it hard to set back up to continue recording the same exact position at construction scene after changing out the batteries?

I had a project where it took a photo every 30 mins for 6 hours a day. I'd replace the batteries once a month. I kept it pretty steady by mounting it to a wooden post that was implanted in the ground. There would be a ridge that the camera housing would rest on, then I'd zip-tie the housing to the post-side. that way the body would never really move out of position. There were very slight bumps on the time-lapse, but I was able to smooth those over in post. The picture quality is pretty much what you'd expect with a cheaper camera. If you mimic my settings in the video, you have a lot more room in post to adjust the contrast and colors.

The videos are automatically compiled each day, so only a second or two each day when set for every 30 mins. When I drop the footage after 4 weeks I end up getting ~30 short video clips.

Hi! I am wondering if there is currently an easy and affordable or free app that will convert the files to something iPhone compatible. The only video I saw on this referenced an app that I can’t find. I don’t own a computer so if I can’t find a converter app, I need to return the camera...
My biggest concern was frame rate. Years ago, I bought the simpler, cheaper shoe-shaped aqua blue Brinno camera without any screen on the back. Very simple. And the frame rate must have been like 12 running per second. Not smooth at all, plus garbage quality and narrow field of view. Once I saw you can change it to 30 on this one I went ahead and ordered it. If I can have smooth footage without using my dSLR and my intervalometer (still extremely valuable and way better than a camera like this but sometimes I'd like to be able to use my camera and time-lapse simultaneously, this is also good for long term time-lapses) then I'm set. Thanks for showing the settings.
What kind of time shooting time factor is the camera shooting at when "ASAP" is chosen?
What is the difference with their bcc series?
I am somewhat disappointed the fastest interval it can shoot is once every second as far as I can find. Have you been able to find a way around this? I do driving timelapses and one image every half or quarter second would be ideal
I have set my timer How do I cot it on ?
Thanks for your video. I have some questions. I want you to take only one photo a day, can you zoom in? Or if not, in the edition, does it have enough quality to cut the image? I can put it at 1m and I would photograph a cactus graft from a 5cm coin that in 6 months would be like a golf ball. Can I feed it with rechargeable batteries and occasionally connect a powerbank to recharge it? it is very important that it does not move at all. Can I put in a card that I have 256gb? Thank you for your attention
@RDKtutorials
2 жыл бұрын
The quality is 1280x720, so I wouldn't recommend digitally zooming in. You can buy a special lens that zooms more, but it won't work with the weather housing. Yes, you can have it take 1 photo per day. You can buy a mount so that it never really moves much. 256gb is way more than necessary
@CarmeloSoy

Español Inglés thanks for your attention. buying lenses is priceless. Do you think that putting it 10-30cm from the object would be worth it? or it would look like a fish eye. Do you know if I put rechargeable batteries if I connect a powerbank once a week, if they would charge? (I don't want it to move or run out of battery) the seedling is 2-3 mm and in 6 months more or less the expectation of growth is common a golf ball
Question please the settings you tweaked shows 1 hour. Does that mean it records for 1 hour then shut off. I need this to record for a 60 days at 1 frame a second during 7am to 3:30 pm. How do I set that only please? Thanks
@RDKtutorials
6 жыл бұрын
UnitedSoundVideo you would need to set the Time setting to CUSTOM, once you press ok it will ask for the interval, which is 1 second: "00:00:01". Then you go into the settings and setup a timer for 7:00-15:30. It will only stop when the timer goes off at 3:30. Then it will compile a video of the day and save it to the storage card. It will automatically start again the next day at 7am. You may want to stop it a few times during the 60 days and replace the storage card / batteries.

I need clarification: Your very first menu explanation was a little unclear to me. Starting @ 0:32 you state you are adjusting the time lapse. What are you adjusting? The total duration? The frequency of photos? Sorry, I have a concrete placement this tuesday and I need this to be flawless. We are pouring from 5:00 AM until 6:00PM. I am struggling with finding ideal settings.
Yeah but how do you set the time and date stamp.
What do I do with SD card after I’m done recording? How do I view images/video?

You need the weather housing (it sometimes comes with the camera). When I used these cameras I'd change the batteries out once per month.
How do you set up the camera so it takes one picture a day at the same time each day? I tried testing this by using the Custom Timer setting to be 24 hours, and the tiem window to be 11AM to 1PM. I left the camera for four days as a test to see what would happen, and it only took one photo on the first day and no other photos. Any suggestions? This project is going to be over 18 months so we only need 1 photo a day but if it makes it easier, I might change it a photo every 2 hours and make the window 9AM to 3PM and see what happens. Thanks.

@@carly1503 Yes... sort of. I was told by Brinno that 1 photo a day wasn't enough material to make a video. Instead I switched to one photo every 10 minutes, from 8 am to 4 pm. It's working ok so far, but giving me way more material than I need. I also find in the winter (I'm in Canada) the camera lasts way less than 30-40 days. Like, it lasts 16 days and then needs batteries replaced. I think it's a great camera but am disappointed by some of the features, it feels a bit like false advertising.
I turned off the cam, without processing... any idea if I can rescue the video?
So is there any way to play back on the cameras screen?

If I wanted to make a two minute video of a construction that takes 30 days to build. They only work 7am-7pm each day.. How do I work out frame rate and timer setting.
@RDKtutorials

120 seconds * 30fps = 3,600 frames / 30 days = 120 frames per day / 12 hours = 10 frames per hour or 1 frame every 6 minutes But personally I'd set it more frequently than every 6 mins so that you can edit out slow times. Also weekends off would affect the above equation
Hi! Is there a zoom function?
@RDKtutorials

There is a way to digitally zoom when only checking focus but that's it. You can purchase a telephoto lens separately and change it out
The only wat to focus is by moving the lens back and forth. The buttons don’t do anything.

How long do the batteries really last for?

Depends on the interval of shooting. I replaced my batteries once every month when I shot a photo every 30 mins for 7 hours a day. The batteries were maybe 75% used up.

Just purchased the TLC200 Pro and was told by the vendor that for long term projects I should use an external power source like a portable solar panel connected via the micro USB port. Has anyone tried this? I haven't been able to find any information about it. The Brinno website indicates you can use Micro USB cable + DC5V adapter (adapter is not needed for the solar panel which provides DC5V-1A). If so, do the AA batteries need to be removed from the camera? Also, there's no way to format the card in the camera. I was told it automatically formats when the SD card is installed however all my old files are still on the card following this. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and good shooting!

I've had to format the card each time. I do it with another camera because I typically have the tlc at the location but I format the card at the office. As for the solar panel, I have no idea. I just switch out the batteries every few weeks.

RDKtutorials Thanks for the reply- I’m using the waterproof housing so switching the batteries requires dismounting and removing the camera. How do you get around having your perspective change or is the slight movement insignificant? Also what program are you using for post processing and do you ever combine videos to show different angles? Thanks!

Peter Borg I mount the waterproof housing to a post that I'd buried in the ground. That way it doesn't really move. There is a slight movement but I stabalize it with premiere. Overall, there is the slightest of movement but our clients don't seem to mind or even notice. I'll keep up this system until we get a complaint.

When you change batteries does it stop the recording? If so are you stitching several videos together to create one finished product? Would like to know more about how that's done if you can help. Thanks again!

this is what I don't get, what is the difference in the time interval and fps, if the fps is set to 5 and the time interval is set to 20 seconds, but you have a range setting such that its on between 6am and 6pm....is it 20 frames a second? 5 frames a second? is it 5 frames a second but only for 20 seconds each minute and only between 6 and 6? not at all straightforward -

fps refer to video speed when all shoots are compiled. ex 1 shoot/min for 12h = 720 shoots at 20 fps = 720 frames(shoots) / 20 sec = 36 sec video. your ex. 1 shoot/20 sec = 3 shoot/min X 12h = 2,160 shoots @ 20 fps = 108 sec video. if you use 5 fps you'll have instead 108 sec you get 432 sec but less fluid motion
