How to setup iPad and iPhone Parental Controls in 2020

Ғылым және технология

Has your kid got an iPad? Be sure to check out this tutorial!
Technical Notes:
1) This tutorial is also applicable to iPhones, so long as they're running on iOS version 13.
3) This tutorial is from the point of view that you are setting up parental controls from the parent's device. Once the child account and parental controls are setup on the parent's device, you can then unbox your child's iPad or iPhone and log into it with the Child Account you created in the tutorial.
4) The settings I provide are only guidelines. Each parent should decide the restriction settings that are appropriate for their family.

If you’re sharing YOUR device with your kid, then disregard the separate Child account. Just #1 “Turn on Screen Time” #2 set a Screen Time Passcode (DO NOT SHARE IT) #3 Configure it for your Child. When your Child is not using the device, DO NOT turn off Screen Time as you learned it doesn’t save your settings. Just switch off Downtime, App Limits and Content & Privacy Restrictions. You can leave Communication Limits and Always Allowed as is; they have no effect with the others turned off. When you give it to your kid, switch those three back on and update your App Limits for the appropriate time and back out of Settings for the changes to apply immediately.

This video doesn't does not make sense at all. It still doesn't answer the question on how to open an account for my child on an iPhone????? She is 9 and it does not allow her to open an account. I use android I don't have an iPhone, I don't have an account, dont want one. In this video you use your own sign in??? Seriously?

I understand your frustration. My technical notes in the description read as follows: “3) This tutorial is from the point of view that you are setting up parental controls from the parent's device. Once the child account and parental controls are setup on the parent's device, you can then unbox your child's iPad or iPhone and log into it with the Child Account you created in the tutorial.” Perhaps this isn’t the correct tutorial for your particular use case.

Ah yes, because protecting our children online automatically means we have forgone raising them and they are now fending for themselves. If you’re afraid of the world progressing without you, just say that.

@@aubriemidori its not that, its the fact they are online at a young age instead of you spending time with them

@@ozaflfkf7221 okay, and what’s wrong with that? It’s entirely unrealistic to think parents are going to spend all hours of the day with their kids. The internet is a learning tool and allows kids to learn and express themselves at any age, this video just gives parents the peace of mind that they are doing it safely. Again, if you’re afraid of technology just say so.

If you feel the need to set this up for your child, maybe you shouldn't be giving them a device like this. Monitoring and controlling your children to this extent is child abuse. As more of more of adolescence and teenage development is spent in cyberspace, Children need to be able to explore the way children in a pre-internet/phone era did. Children would go and play and explore but, more importantly, were able to have time alone with their peers to develop their own personality. You can be open with your child and allow them to explore. You can create dialogue with your child and guide them enough to know that if they are exploring in either digital or real life, they will have the tools to handle their situations and use it as a learning opportunity. These controls are designed for parent's who are too lazy to properly be a parent for their child or for parent's who wish to stunt their children's development as a normal person due to underlying mental illnesses of the parent. Either way, both are abuse

I spend time on my phone watching KZread videos. Why can’t my kid do the same. You can’t watch what they’re doing 24/7 or you’d never get anything else done. So I set this up so while I’m doing my dishes my kid doesn’t end up spending all my money on in app purchases. And it’s not abuse to limit how much of the internet your kids are allowed to use lmao. That’s like saying not letting your kids watch horror movies and pórn is abusive lmfao
