How to Setup and Use Broodminder

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I struggled to find a good tutorial on setting up and using the BroodMinders and I'm sure there are others who also may be having a hard time figuring things out. I will go over everything you need to know on how to install, get data and view it.

Nice video! I started filming one and never finished it. I have another element of installation with the sub hub talking to a cell phone in my window. I really need to go explore Mellisphera now that I have about a year of data. Thanks for the shoutout!

Yeah I forgot to mention the hub option. I don't really know too much detail about it but I'm sure it would be useful for those with more hives.

I just got a sudden urge to play StarCraft from all this talk about hives and brood hehe. Seems like a cool and useful gadget though 👍 Always nice to see technology that makes things easier.

Great video. We always like getting feedback of what is easy and hard. We certainly try to make it easy, but everyone sees things differently. One resource you might want to check out is our video users manual. You will find it if you hit the home button in the top left corner. Check them out and then let me know what we need to improve. Good luck with your bees! Rich

Interesting video Paula. What is the purpose of the burlap in the top hive? I've never seen that before.

The burlap I use during the winter to absorb excess moisture in the hive. We have such wet and humid winters. I will remove it once the weather is warmer and dryer.

Hi there Robbie. I didn't understand your question so thank you for the video which helped. That is not the amount of brood, it has no way of telling that. That number is just telling you how much data has been received from the sensor. You can set the sensor to record data every 5 mins, 15 mins or 1 hour. I believe 1 hour is the default. 637/24 = 26.5 so that would mean it has pulled 26.5 days of data from your sensor. At least that is how I understand it

there's yet another device you can buy. I think it's called a hub that will auto sync but I passed on that. plus it only works if they're all in the same area but I have hives in the front yard and the back yard so don't think it would reach far enough to sync both sets of hives.

2 questions 1 how big vent hole do you use 2 do I need to buy hub for brood minder

  • @gapey

Are you talking about the vent hole in the ventilation box on top? It's about 1.5" with a screen over it. You don't have to buy a hub. I don't have one. I think they would be helpful if you have a lot of hives but I just have 3-4. Without a hub you have to download date for each hive one by one.

Paula Kofod Thomas is my facebook name. I also have a facebook page Gapeys Grub but don't post on there as often. Most of my content the past year has been on stories that I post on IG which are also cross posted to fb.
