    This is SO GOOD. Thank you! The only part I had to go figure out myself was how to change the WAV/MP3 formatting - the button wasn't working because my recorder was in STAMINA mode, and I had to power it down and go into the battery compartment and turn STAMINA mode button off in order to change it from MP3 to WAV.

    Thanks for the video. Can you please help me with some settings? I have very limited understanding of recording. I have a shure sm 58 and a zoom h4n. I only record voice overs on this set up. But there is too much white noise. Its so much that if i remove it in the post, the quality of the audio is also getting poor. Can you suggest any solution for this? Is there a setting that i can do to at least minimise the noise?

    Thank you! I've followed these steps but still get quite a lot of unwanted background noise - do you have any advice regarding mic positioning/settings to get the best quality sounding audio possible on a mic like this?

  • @iopvideo3137

    @iopvideo3137

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi Dave, thanks for your comment. Firstly, and I know this sounds obvious, but try and choose a location that doesn't have any unwanted background noise. It's no mistake that big budget productions do a lot of their sound in sound proof stages and booths. Anyway, do what you can in your chosen location and try and control any unwanted noises, e.g. switch off fridges, computers, air conditioning, etc. Taking a Zoom to your location, putting it into record standby and then listening to what the space sounds like will give you a good idea of the suitability of the location. Next position your microphone as close as possible to the signal (the sound you want to record) and angle it so that it is pointing in exactly the right direction - this is called on-axis. This will give you a good signal to noise ratio with the proximity of the microphone. Bear in mind that if you are recording sound using the Zoom H4n microphones, they have an optimum range of roughly 1.5 feet. Then put the Zoom into record standby as you adjust the levels. Hope that helps.

    IOP Video sorry mate, i wasnt saying that in anger or frsutration, just one of those ironic things i noticed. I never meant for it to sound so derogatory. I apologise if it came across that way. The way it was intended was to sound like a comedian on stage saying it... but i guess in text it doesnt come out right. Maybe i should have recorded in the context of what and how i meant it. If only youtube would allow audio comments. Maybe thats the next social media revolution, audio comments haha
