Uverse Internet (which they've just rebranded to AT&T Internet) was kind of a transition between traditional DSL (much further distance over the existing telephone copper lines) and Fiber. The quality of the copper lines from your house to their side is going to determine the max speeds for DSL and Uverse (VDSL). I've had it on and off for years and when it first came out I had the triple play (TV, Internet, and. Phone). They were the only ones approved for telephone alarm lines and faxes because the VOIP was going directly back to the AT&T Network Operations Center and didn't have to travel over the "internet". These days they mostly only offer the Internet and phone part, but they're still using the same modem/router as before. That Coax line is actually a MOCA port. You could plug the Uverse TV boxes into your existing coax runs OR the LAN ports. When the connection is good, it's a solid experience. My neighbors a block away finally got fiber, but still not on our block yet!

We have fiber optics everywhere to houses, inside houses - an Optic-ethernet media converter to a router and then either Wi-Fi or a LAN. Usually to gaming PCs cable (less ping) and phones, tablets, laptops and TVs via Wi-Fi. Location on Domodedovo city, Moscow region. Backbone providers have either optics or a broadband radio channel. On average, the speed at home is 40 megabits per second, the tariff is 400 rubles per month ($5.4) and unlimited tariff. Thanks for the video about this router, I was looking for information about it because I liked the design!

Pretty much like Windstreams gateway. The red ONT is for Fiber to the home so you would use this instead of the green bonded dsl line. Also I would shut off the wifi and WPS as it can be brute forced to crack and I would use my own router and make the gateway a modem strickly.

Trying to sort out what ATT Internet 50 installation requires inside the house. I get a different answer every time I call. I have ATT phone/DSL currently. You showed the Router DSL connection is larger than the traditional phone jack connection. So, from your video seems clear the existing wall jack cannot be used (as is). Does ATT installer replace the existing wall connection with a new connector (same spot/wires in the wall) so it can take the larger router DSL? OR do they install a new connector? If you have multiple phone jacks in the house, does it matter which one they use? Debating this vs. just waiting for Wifi Home Internet, Thanks for the video. Helping me understand what is involved.

If your house is wired with ethernet, then all of those network jacks end in some room in your house, usually a closest or similar. You would need to plug in those cables into your router and then you will be able to use the network jacks in your rooms. Otherwise, if they're not plugged in, nothing will work. If you have more network ports in your home than your router has, you can buy a network switch.

@TomLeeman hi i know this video is a little old but i was searching for some info and thought you might be able to help. Please forgive my idiocy but im not to tech savvy but at&t installed a black box that stands up on its side. Im assuming its maybe the router. You can plug up a phone line, ether net, and some other things on the back and on the front it has indicator lights. My service with at&t is good but my mother found a box of new at&t hook ups and a tower or router. Would it be ok for me to use the newer router/tower or should i not even mess with it? I ask cause the router/tower is new and i wasnt sure if it would have a better signal. If your not sure what router/tower im talking about its like the one in your video. It has no antennas and it has the password on the side. Also if i can switch them would the wifi password be the same as the original router/tower or would i use the password on the side of the new router/tower?

If you have AT&T internet and it is NOT fiber, you need a phone line in your home. You don't need phone service, but you do need an active phone jack in your home. If you don't have one, you will probably need to contact AT&T so that they can install and set that up for you. The ONT port is only necessary if you have AT&T Fiber internet service. You would plug in an ethernet cable from your ONT (where the fiber comes in and gets handed off as copper) to your AT&T gateway.

You actually don’t need to connect the ethernet if you use Wi-Fi but I directly wired my computer to the system, but that’s up to you. The tower itself sends out a signal. You can look on the side of it. It tells you your network name and the password for any device, so you don’t have to use a wire connection but you do have to connect it from the AT&T port. Good luck thanks for watching.

@@davidjamesqc You can plug in devices like PCs, laptops, TVs, etc to your gateway via an ethernet cable. It is preferred over wifi as ethernet is more stable and reliable. However, you can use wifi if your devices are too far away and can't run a cable. The red ONT port, to my knowledge, is only used if you have AT&T Fiber internet. You would plug an ethernet cable from your ONT (optical network terminal) to the gateway. The ONT is where the fiber from AT&T comes in and is 'handed off' as an ethernet connection to your gateway. If you don't have fiber internet, this doesn't apply to you.

AT&T currently has a 5 year fiber buildout plan which realistically is going to take a lot longer. Anything 7-100 meg is already partial fiber (fttn). The company is a little behind where it should be because the last CEO tried to transform At&t into an entertainment company.
