Any idea how to configure an Atari Joystick connected to a USB "port"? I use that for WinUAE and it works great, but I can't seem to figure how to configure it for A500Mini. I don't want to buy a TheJoystick because I do not like those kind, and I don't like Game Pads as a replacement for Atari Joystick. Thanks for the help.

Do you know if mapping is available for games which are pre installed or do you need to download on usb and use your method?

Sadly it's not possible. If you want alternate controls you'll have to add another copy of the game onto the USB.

Hello and thanks for the video. I bought the competition Pro USB Stick from Speedlink. The stick is working in the pre installed games, but does not work in the games I load via WHDload. Does your Stick work in games that were loaded with WHDload ?? I didn´t know if I would buy then your stick as well or wait until there might be a support for other USB sticks over WHDload... Having the same problem. Neither fire button works with sensible soccer using the method in this video. The difference is the Speedlink Comp Pro Extra is it doesn’t have the 4 buttons at the back.

@@foxtrotalphazulu6418 Yeah, I have two of them and even after mapping they dont seem to work. Can't even navigate the game menu on a WHDL Kick Off 2 or Sensible Soccer.

@@dedrexel Not yet. I had great Hope that the Update of the Firmware would fix this Point. I have tested the competition Stick from the retro C64 Set without success too.

Thanks for this! I was looking for a way to fix this problem. I'm surprised it was released with the joystick buttons configured that way, as this also happens on the TheC64 joystick.

@@UKGamingNetwork The only other change (apart from a working keyboard) I'd like is four USB ports rather than 3, as you have to use a hub to have the mouse, keyboard, joystick and a USB drive connected. That said a hub works great, and adding a keyboard makes it feel much more like a real Amiga. Also modern USB keyboards are very similar in layout, unlike TheC64 where it definitely needed that proper C64 layout keyboard for the full experience.

Hello i have pad plus 2 speedlinks connnected / on main screen everything works fine (navigate-selecting etc. )/ but during the games always the pad and one stick is recognized even with home-X / any suggestion ?

Have you made sure the second controller isn't set to mouse in the settings screen. I found that to be an issue with some games.

@@UKGamingNetworkin one port I have a hub with a usb stick and the pad / in the 2 other ports i have the 2 joys / i have set both as [joystick] / the four buttons are recognized as ABXY without any mapping / both joys and pad are functional for navigation selection / when i press [a] to start a game from internal memory the pad and joy1 is active ... joy2 is dead / the same happens when i select a game from whdload and start with home / i tried different setups changing ports etc even disconect the pad / again only the joy1 is functional /

Unscrew the joystick and swap the wires around, re-solder it and it will work.

In the end i bought the C64 Mini given its reduced in price now and used that joystick, the instructions worked fine, but the speedlink definitely has a better feel to it!!! I love the re wiring idea, might just give it a shot!!

Is there no way to create a profile that can be used with multiple games? Do they make us do this for every single game?

Unfortunately, as far as I can tell so far, you have to do it for every game and it can't be done for the games that are pre-installed on the system.

Really hoping for an update on that.. Hard to believe they did such a great copy of the original Amiga and then leave us with mixed up firebuttons on a joystick. Someone should've even told them before...

When you configure each game it creates a .uae config file which can be dropped into a text editor. You can set one game up then copy and paste the stick/pad mapping between games using this method.

It's called simply The Joystick and its made by Retro Games Ltd, same as the A500 Mini itself You'll want the Microswitch version and we got ours from Amazon.

I do not understand - why do you configure CD32 pad, not the joystick?

Simply because it defaults to showing a joypad at the top of the screen and it made it easier to understand.

@@UKGamingNetwork But what should I do if my joystick has only 4 keys (SpeedLink Competition Pro Extra)? There's no way to enter "menu" nor press"L" or "R"... I've tried to enter menu using pad connected to the other prot, but joystick configuration doesn't work :(

We couldn't get our Speedlink controller to work but if the configuration is the same as the main 4 buttons on The Joystick it should be quite simple. The 4 buttons should correspond to the ABX and Y but only 2 will ever be needed for the majority of games. You are free to set the other 2 to whatever you wish. Make sure one of them is the virtual keyboard. Do the setting up with the joypad connected before swapping once the setup is done. Hope this helps

Or you could just launch the game with button 4 and its ready configured. Better still, use a ps4 pad using the options button so you can use the analogue sticks.

The one that comes with the C64 mini is a worthy replacement. Not quite as good but still a good stick

Nice video. But I just can't stand the joystick that comes with the C64 mini or maxi. It is god awful sadly. They really need to improve that joystick.

Didn't like The C64 joystick either. Had to get the microswitch one instead. It's still not as good as the mighty Zipstick was back in the day, but it's a vast improvement.

The simplest explanation is to reverse the Red and Blue buttons when you configure the joypad controls. Do this before you plug in the joystick to make it even easier.

@@UKGamingNetwork Thank you, I’ll have to sit down and look at it properly 😝 I just ordered the clear joystick from Amazon UK, the usual links are all sold out, but they have added an EU seller, 4-6 weeks delivery time😩😝😂 (Is the clear model definitely the microswitched version?)

@@andydavidson1278 yes, that's the microswitch one. The normal black one works fine but the clear one is the better one.
