This video was so helpful. I didn't know exactly how to set up my 2 amps to work like this. And I had absolutely no Idea I could use my 2 subs with both amps by using the speaker cables from my 2ch rig. You just saved me a ton of space and money. Thank you so much!

An integrated amp has many of the same compromises that a receiver has, just no surround or tuner. Best to go straight to a quality power amp to your mains.

TY. I hope I got it right: 1) When watching movies... both units are ON, intgrated amp drives L+R speakers, AVR drives all other speakers (signal comes from say, BluRay player) So in the setup (1) the L+R speakers benefit from using the 'improved' power secton of the integrated amp for improved sound quality, although these speakers still utilize the 'inferior' preamp section of the AVR... 2) When listening to music... only integrated amp is ON, and it drives L+R speakers (signal comes from, say music streamer)

I took a similar approach, in a slightly different way. I wanted to power my Bowers & Wilkins 804s, but I didn't want to use the weedy amplification of my Denon AVC 8500 HA. My solution was to take the preamp out from the Denon and plug them directly into two monoblocks. in my case: Audiolab 8300MBs. At the press of a button on the back of the amplifier I can switch the input over to XLR connectors which are supplied from a Cambridge Audio Azur 851N Network Player (being used as a pre-amplifier) with all audio two channel Hi-Fi components connected to it. My Rel sub is connected at speaker level for Hi-Fi and sub out RCA for cinema. 250 watts per channel makes the speakers sing! 👍😎

Good vid! Having a system that is configured like this is truly the best of both worlds. Regarding subwoofers with both LFE and high-level inputs, REL is another brand who has a very good implementation for this. Their use of speakon cables, for high level, makes for a clean hookup.

Nice info here. FYI... on older stereo receivers, those lacking the dedicated power amp inputs, you can still effectively get the same results using any of the standard inputs on your old stereo receiver (CD, tape, aux, etc.). The only issue is volume management. You typically set the stereo receiver's volume up (about -20 dB) so the AV receiver's other channels are volume matched/balanced. You just need to remember to reduce the volume when you go to switch your source on the receiver for audio listening or you will get blasted! Haha Don't forget to reset the volume to -20 dB when you switch back to the AV receiver so levels are re-matched with the rest of it's channels or those rears will be lost in the surround system. I do this on my Onkyo TX-RX50 AVR and JVC RX-701V stereo. In my setup, the JVC provides the last two amplified channels for surround back the Onkyo needs since it only provides 9 amplified channels of the 11 it can process (but has all 11 pre-outs available). My AVR rear surrounds become my main stereo speakers due to their locations.

My setup is Rotel A14mkii Theatre Bypass Marantz SR6014 mains pre outs . I can either use the marantz subwoofer out in two channel as long as both mains and LFE are setup in Marantz menu. Or the A14mkii pre outs subwoofer option which I prefer with a separate selection switch box.

Something not obvious until I settled in a new Rotel A14 Mk2 is that it *is* equipped quite well for HT Bypass. Output can be fixed per input, and then the amp's volume control is locked out. I've been tempted now to plug a cable into the Front L+R preouts of my Denon AVR, leaving the very capable Wharfedale Diamond 9.6 towers powered off the AVR as well, but now with my luscious new Wharfedale Lintons powered by the Rotel adding 'width' and presence to the sound picture for concert DVDs. Oh my! Luxurious. So no, HT won't kill high-end audio. They can 'live in sin' quite happily.

Your video explained lots of questions that i had, thanks. Currently, i have monitor audio silver 100,50, center, svs sb 1000 pro sub with marantz sr6015. I am thinking about Cambridge audio cxa81 for two channel. For this to work, i need to connect Front LR pre out from avr to any of those a2, a3 inputs in cxa81 and then use speaker A into my MA speakers. And by using speaker cable speaker B from cxa81 into svs sub speaker level inputs and also marantz avr sub out into svs lfe. Right? Sub will have two inputs: LFE with avr and speaker cable with cxa81. Is this the correct way to go?

I cannot get my Denon 3700H AVR to integrate with my Audiolab 6000A Play amp from 2.0 to 4.1. I can get the on/off to work via trigger cable, but when it comes to getting to listen to 2 channel stereo and switching to 4.1 through my LG CX tv nothing works...the "aux" volume set doesn't work (or I am missing something). Getting ready to have a pro come into my home to get this all set up. Everyone makes it sound so simple...ugh.

Hello, nice video. Here is my question: I have a Marantz SR8015 and an Emotiva USP-1. All speakers are powered by external amplifiers. The Emotiva has a "HT IN" input so it can by pass the signal. I connected the Front Speakers from the power to the Emotiva Full range Input and the RCA that was going from the MArantz front pre out to the Power amplifier is now going to the "HT IN" input in the Emotiva, The turntable is connected directly to the Emotiva as well. I can listen to my records with out an issue BUT not the movies, the front speakers are not sounding at all!, I have tried this connection maby times with out sucess!, can you please let me know if I am missing something?, all Input source are set up as "AUTO" in the Marantz so it plays the source from whatever kind of signal. Glad I stumbled across your video. I have been looking to do just what you explain but don’t have enough knowledge to insure I do it right. I have a Marantz SR7011 which has preouts but not sure about the HT Bypass. I would like to get an Audiolab 6000a or Play for music enjoyment but don’t want to give up 5.1 for movies. Do you know if this will work as you have laid out? Also want Sub for music and of course movies but a little confused on the dual connection. I have an SVS Micro 3000 and it has an LFE plus a coaxial input. Since the Audiolab and SVS don’t have wire sub connection. Would I just use the non LFE input? Thanks in advance.

The Audiolab 6000A is a great choice for home theater bypass because it has the ability to be switched into a power amp simply by rotating a dial on the front. Feed the preouts from your Marantz into the Power input of the 6000A. For the sub you use the LFE out of your Marantz receiver and off you go!

Regarding the MRX540 preamps and the external amp. Would it be technically possible to have it hooked up so the external amp is used for front 2ch listening in one mode but running to height effects for a 5.1.2 setup in another? Purpose being, if it is capable, I would go ham and buy a 2ch amp to outperform my mrx540, but if it's not, I'll just run a low budget 2ch amp to power the height speakers for movies which is what I was originally wanting to do but you got me thinkin.

Home cinema bypass is not required at all, and I have not used the facility in my very high end preamp in favour of a standard input. The bypass causes noise, and that's apparent even in my 10k UK pound plus preamp. The standard input is dead silent. The preout for the fronts can go into standard line inputs of the pre or integrated. The volume is then set to allow the amplification to fullest point and the volume is then controlled by the AV receiver's volume control. The bypass is a bad choice as it causes noise. My current pre has an offboard power supply and is dead quiet, except if the bypass is enabled. My Pass labs also was the same. The bypass function is just a gimmick and any line input will work much better and quieter.

This seems to me way more complicated, than it should be... Basically you end up with 2 set/sistem of amps and using just one of them, yes you can use the AVR as a preamp, but it seems pointless to me. Most of the modern AVRs have a direct or pure direct mode (shuts down all the internal circuits and codecs of the AVR and uses just the amps) on their analog input, all you need is a good external stereo DAC and thats all... I've hooked up an ifi zen dac v2 to my Denon X2500H, playing music from my PC with Tidal and it works like magic. There is a noticeable difference in the music, its way more clean, live and powerfull in this way, with any set of speakers. Have fun :)
