Great video! Question please: I have an entry-level budget receiver (Marantz) powering my 5.1 setup. Sound quality is passable, not exceptional. I also have a much higher end integrated amplifier (Naim Nait 5i) sitting around collecting dust. This amp has an AV bypass, so I'm thinking of introducing it in my home theater setup - it would power my front left and right speakers, while the remaining 3.1 speakers would continue to be powered by my budget receiver. Since the front left/right speakers would now be powered by a higher quality (and separate) amp, should the overall sound quality of my system theoretically improve? Thanks for any help!

I just did exactly this but I didn't really know why I did it besides the fact that my loudspeakers sound way better being hooked up to a 2ch power amp only difference in my setup is my shelf speakers I left them hooked up as L/R on my jvc receiver sounds nice I just get some surround sound later and hook it up

Hi can you add your sub to the stereo amp so it plays when you listen to stereo and the surround? Thanks Scott

The issue with having other inputs into the stereo amp and not the AV receiver, is that you won't be able to configure the sub through the stereo amp. Unless... your sub has a left and right channel on the amp. You could send the AV sub output to one channel, and the stereo amp sub output to the other (with the stereo output going through a minidsp (or something) to adjust the crossover and EQ). Personally I'd just send all input through the AV receiver.

I thought you can change the sound settings on a sound reciver to stereo if you needed it to be by changing the sound mode to stereo or any other music mode but i guess you can do that as well.

Adding decent pre-amp should be the way to go for mid/high-end av amps.

LOL there's nothing wrong with the sound of the Onkyo receiver's and that's how you overload the amp via the inputs! You take the pre out/main in from the receiver to the PREAMP and outs of a POWER AMP not an integrated amp, unless it has Pre amp INPUTS.

What about having reciver and amp separated, having two separate runs of cable and swapping out the interconnects for weather you want to watch a move, or listen to music?

Okaaaay lol i get this video but i have a question....i have been told and have done a bit of research that stereo should only be listened to two channels/2 speakers. The thing is, i LOVE 5.1 OR 7.1 surround sound for movies and don't think i would enjoy my cds and vinyls in hearing from them from just 2 speakers. If i listen to stereo music in all 5.1 speakers will i loose the quality and detail of the music? because this is very important to me that i don't.... or should i just get two different sets of equipment (which i don't want to do becasue of costing) I already have an onkyo home theater 5.1 system that i love, but am planning on the marantz 6005 cd transport and amp..i dnt know what to do!

Does your amp not have a 2.0 or 2.1 setting you could switch to when.playing music?

Did you ever end up getting the marantz 6005? If so are you happy with the results? Basically does your stereo speakers sound better now that is not going through a receiver?

wrong. Not only will this possibly overload the speakers it can sometimes cause a lot of extra distortion Pre-outs on a receiver go to a POWER amp, not a preamp/power amp. Youre effectively using two preamps here An integrated amp like rhat would need theater bypass ins or preamp bypass

The notion that AVR's do not deliver good stereo is not fact. AVR's can actually deliver better stereo since they allow for subwoofer integration and crossover point between sub and mains to be adjusted for the richest sound.

Your better off getting a power amp youll overload the input of the Intgrated amp with the preamp signal of the AVR

Is this a joke? This is terrible advice... You must have a hi-fi amp with HT bypass functionality and an av receiver with pre outs...

Will bypass turn on and off the amplifier with the Av receiver remote? Or do I need one with a trigger switch?
