Step 6. Enjoy!
Best External Hard Drive - amzn.to/2DM22Ai
Note:
Most external drives you buy will automatically be formatted in NTFS which is a Windows file system. Macs can only read but not write to a NTFS file system. So if you want your external hard drive to be able to read and write from Mac OS and Windows then you need to reformat it with ExFAT.

Thank you bro, I was struggling trying to figure this out. Had to go buy another external, but ultimately it was worth it!
Excellent video. Short and precise. I just did it with my 2Tb Seagate. It worked, took me like a minute!!! I also added files from both Mac and PC to check!!! Thank you!!

Thanks for the video. Does the ExFAT format work with Time Machine as good as the Mac OS Extended Journaled format?
Gracias 😀😀😀
i had formated a Seagate external drive and i put pix on it. i went to open up and it would not open, what do i do?
I might of missed it but can you plug and save from windows and mac with just this formatting ? For example I'm saving a video from my windows and then I plug it to my mac and save a video as well?
Any limitations? Read that exfat doesn’t let you transfer 4gb+ files.
Does using exFAT effect performance?
ok so how do I do this in the opposite directon moving from windows to mac. I haven been using a external hardrive on my windows and need to open files on a mac but I've been scared to plug it into a mac and lose data. what should I do ?
if you get new Mac does the external drive need to be formatted again?
Hello, if do I lose my saved files if I reformat my hard drive to an exFat ?

I just learned the hard way... answer is yes
So for the first time ever, I’ve set up an external hard drive from a third party instead of a Time Capsule as a back-up disk (working with Time Machine). Upon recognizing this hard drive, my Mac created an icon on my desktop. The same happens when you plug in a USB drive. But... after using your USB, you should eject it safely. Should I do the same with the external hard disk before shutting down my Mac?

You should have a Mac and a PC on your desk tho. Lol just noticed at the end you have 2 macs on your desk
What if it doesn’t show on disk utility?

A bit late. But click view, and Show all drives.
I read something online that said this method only works for files less than 4GB? Is that true and if so is there a way to share larger files between Mac and PC?
If there are files on the external drive, will this erase them?

I hope you were able to save them somehow.
This was way too fast for a Mac beginner. You didn’t even say what the spotlight is. Next time please zoom in on the areas of interest. It’s hard to follow on my iPhone. You know what you are doing; now try to explain it a bit better to a beginner!
