I am 75 and I am learning so much. Also I feel like I am channeling my father's interests. In the late 40's he became a radio and television technician for RCA. In the fifties he tried to explain to me the base two electronic base for computers....he bought a Heath Kit to demonstrate that. Funny when he got old he had no use for social media , emails and gaming but my mother jumped in with two feet. Yesterday I extracted 5 hard drives from old computers and one hard drive was not loading properly.

Thank you so much! I bought a used external hard drive which was already partitioned, but it still wasn't showing up. I had to delete the original partition in order to try the first method you suggested, but once that was done, I was able to follow your instructions and it worked fine.

what do I do if my extra hard drive doesn't even show up in disk management? I don't understand this is a new hard drive had it only working for a few weeks and all I did was close down the pc and suddenly stop working once I turned it on again

Same issue with me... Mine is a Seagate 2TB Hard Disk which worked perfectly fine and had stored around 100 GB of media but now it's not readable all of a sudden... Formatting the disk is not an option for me

If you guys are on the shitter just like me (harddrive does not even show up on Disk Management on another computer) you might still be able to save the data by opening/break gently the harddisk case and insert it into a harddisk USB docking station. It might just be that the harddisk controller has been fried, but that the disk itself is fine.

I have an external hard drive (internal hdd in an enclosure). I dropped it while it was switched off and unplugged the other week. Since then it has been working OK. Now, today, it isn't working. When I plug it in and go to My Computer, the green loading bar at the top is continuously there. If I right click on the hard drive (now called "Local Disk" then Windows Explorer will crash. It is like the hard drive is making everything hang. I try and run SeaTools or HDTune whilst HDD plugged in but nothing happens (something is blocking??) but when I unplug the hdd immediately both programs will open. I can't use these programs because of this problem, as when I plug it back in it wont find it. When I go into Computer Management and click Disk Management, It does nothing and just says Connecting to virtual Disk Service at the bottom.. But when I unplug it then it opens and shows me my C drive. I cannot also use chdisk because when I am in cmd and i type T: to change to that hard drive, it will hang (nothing happens). Please help mee

Thank you! This worked for me! Had a large external I hadn’t used for a while. It had been formatted to the Xbox. Trying to use it on PC and it would make the noise saying it’s connected, but wouldn’t show up or anything. All sorted now!

@@daniel-vz8gy drive is faulty. check if its still under warranty and call the manufacturer and ask them. if not try to pay for a replacement and to move your data from that one to the new one.

This is very helpful. I replaced my PS4's HDD with Firecuda SSHD so I bought an HDD enclosure for the old ones. When I use it, it's not detected by my laptop. I thought I was broken haha Thank you, Michael. You just earned a new subscriber :)

this was incredibly helpful! I wanted to use an external SSD that previously was formatted for my PS5 games and had to go through several of these steps to finally get the storage drive to be recognized and ready to use by my PC. Disk Management - added partition, named the drive then formatted it once the drive appeared in my partition list and then it was good to go!

You are the best after having an external drive was useless and left in the drawer for a year now i managed finally to use it because of your instructions. I'm really thankful. keep going.

Rabiatul A. Shuib unplug everything currently plugged into other USBs and switch the usb that your drive is plugged into. That’s what I had to do

I'm not sure about the 1st option you provide. Approx. 2:5ish in the video, at the New Simple Volume Wizard part where is asking to Format with NTFS/DEFAULT/NEW VOLUME... Either perform a quick format (blah blah blah). Well I lose any data if I select this?

Same problem I try to scan and fix but nothing. My Seagate external hard drive is not corrupted it yet.

I love you so much. I was so confused because my brand new hard drive was not showing up even though it seemed alright when I first plugged it in earlier. I spent half the day trying to figure out what was wrong since it registered with my USB port but did not appear under devices and drives. this is what mine does.

Thank you! I installed daemon tool to mount some drives then accidentally mount them all. That's why there are no allocated letters for my external hard drive to read. THANK YOU!

Years later and this video is still very helpful, thank you. The second solution worked for me. For context I was using an external hard drive that was formatted to my ps4 and wouldn't read on my computer.

Awesome video first method fixed my problem! I've been using computers all my life but never touched ESSD's so had no idea it wouldn't work out of the box.

Yeah the same thing here I was using my laptop and it was heating and my ele-gate external hard drive disappear when I plug it in again it makes noise and the lights turn on but does not show up I think it's due to the cable or the green thing where you plug. I tried the other laptop to the same thing no working I have about 215 different information it's about music files my pics and other things on it help please thank you!

whether an external 1TB hard drive can serve as a space where applications will be inserted and used as if they were in a computer. while it is permanently connected to the computer. because I have very little space on my computer. whether it will remember the application data when turning the computer off and on as if it were in it

Must Pcb replacing from another the same HDD and take bios chip from your old pcb and soldering to New pcb. Done!

Ty the first solution fixed my problem, i had to partition and format my drive after initializing it in disk management because windows couldnt recognize it because it was formatted for my xbox games before

you dont talk about " Hard Drive Not Showing Up"

When I right click on the unallocated it doesn’t let me click new simple drive. Then when I try to initialize it, it gives me “data error( cycle redundancy check)”
