It's my childhood dream playing violin, but somehow started with acoustic guitar at the age of 15, now as life begins at 40 I hope it's not that too late for me to fulfill what I've been dreaming of during my younger years, I got my new violin at last, but a little nervous like having a new friendly dog that needs caring and loving both ways. What a great tutorial. My kid is learning violin through virtual school and her fine tuning pegs were spun the whole way in. This video helped me set up her violin and get it taken care. I also love that you start the tutorial right out of the gate. Skip the pleasantries! I'm here to fix this violin.

Thank you for creating this video! As a professional violinist and instructor, I have a couple of observations: 1.) During the "tuning" portion of your video, instead of saying "etcetera" while listing the string names and octaves (G3, D4...) I think you should finish saying the other two (A4 and E5). 2.) Also during the "tuning" portion: you should play the sound of the strings being tuned - how they go up or down, in or out of tune - instead of the children's tune "Skidamarink". Students should hear what you are doing so they can learn how to tune their violin. You should also explain what you are looking for on the tuning app, and what is happening on the app while tuning. (The needle or arrow indicating the pitch is too high or too low, then turning the peg or fine tuner a specific direction to tune the string while watching the needle or arrow move to the correct spot on the app.) 3.) For the shoulder rest: it does not keep the violin flat and secure on your NECK. Yes, you feel the violin on your neck, but the shoulder rest keeps the violin on your shoulder and collar bone. 4.) Shoulder rests: foam should not be the first option to choose if your shoulder rest is uncomfortable; instead, looking for another suitable shoulder rest (like you eventually cover) should be the first step. Also, foam pads should really only be used for children/youth beginners, and only for a short time. -- Again, thank you for this video! I would pass it along to my own students, but I need a video that helps with the tuning in a more detailed manner. (I am currently teaching online so I can't tune their instrument for them. I show them how to tune in their online lessons, but I thought a supplemental video would be helpful for them during the week, in between lessons.)

After having played Lindsey Stirlings' 'Christmas C'mon' during the holidays year after year, I finally got the inspiration this season that I have been waiting for and ordered a Bellafina 4/4, fretboard note position marker tape kit in four colors, Kun shoulder rest and a Piezo pickup kit. When I grow up I want to be as cool as Lindsey ........... hahahahaha ............. lol ...........

great video. I have a question. So I want to learn how to play and I bought a violin and while I was busy tuning it carefully, the A string snapped. I think I might have done something wrong but that string needed to be tuned higher in order for it to be in tune but it just snapped. what should I do to prevent this?

I just inherited a family heirloom violin that hasn't been played since the 1950s, at least. I learned a lot, already. I don't know if my shoulder will be able to handle playing, though.

The right side means nearest to the E string in this case anyway for this video. Plus always loosen the string a little bit first before you tighten it or you may go too fast and break your string.

Hi. Well that was a Delight, My Dear. I am an ancient 72 Guitar Nut and thought I might try something different to keep the Brain in Operation, so bought a cheapo on a whim and I can assure you the Bridge is NOT in Line with the F-Stop cut outs. Easy fix on my painted job, just draw a Line between both F-Stop cutouts to centre the Bridge laterally. In no way are the strings Centered on the holdy bit, (see, I'm getting the Tech Terms already !), so I'll move the Bridge over, and once the Strings are centred with aforesaid holdy bit, I will use a Permanent Fine Line Marker and trace round the Bridge Base and onto the HORRIBLE Paintwork to make it easy for the next Bridge Shift. I have to admit, as an Engineer, those Fine Tuners took me by surprise. Nice touch. Still to investigate though. Thanks for the Video, it meant a Lot. Regards. Bloke. .

Google: how high should violin action be It is string height above the fingerboard and I think it needs to be checked as part of violin set-up. Good brand of strings is apparently important and may not come with a low cost violin. Violinist tend to be picky about rosin as well Pretty good video. I've been googling to sort out problems before I buy a violin to learn on I will be getting electric to avoid sound post and wood-humidity & temp issues. They can be practiced with earphones as well

Ronald I have a cheap Cecilio and I freaking love the thing. Plus I'm learning how to take care of it so that means know what to do with the bridge how to change the strings how to wind the strings properly all that stuff. Like how to handle it when the pegs are stuck or too loose so that it set up as well as any luthier could do it 08:03 peg compound
