    My gosh, came to see advice you asked for in comments and see you have been invaded by the mean and low downs. You and your witty bitty or whatever you called her - did report very clearly all your findings. I saw very clearly there was a sexing flaw and even thought about another video where they used dye. I hope you have more videos on the topic. I am sure to want to see them all. Thank you sir.

    I'm getting ready to set up a pretty big backyard system this summer (2000 gallons) and the one thing I've been having trouble finding information on his how to breed the fish and especially how to sex them. Thanks for the video, it answered all of my questions and even some I didn't know I need to ask.

    Now I know how to tell the gender of tilapia! It's fascinating to see them care for their eggs until they hatch. How I wish they would survive in northern ponds! They're excellent algae eaters, I hear. Great stuff!

    what filtering do you use ? I do a.p. in 400 gallon tank and grow plants. I have a 30 gallon system to try breeding and not a lot of supplies. I have a air stone and 100gph mini pump to pump water up could run it through a cotton filter product will that be enough to filter out tank for 8 days? will it catch the babies and take them all away?

    happy fish farms Gregg is right on, the female has a crescent vent hard to see with out mag. and food color and even then it can be hard for a beginner. I like to add you should not put female back in with male right away that's poor breading and is hard on her for she has lost weight and hasn't ate for about 2 weeks, Let get her weigh back up for a couple weeks then put her back. I find that a bell jar incubator is the best way to go if you want a lot of fish. I have tried most ways to incubate. Also sac fries can make it on their own if you have no fish in tank. Larry

    I need some help with my tilapia. I have 3 blue Tilapia, 1 male and 2 females they are all about 8 inches each. I had my male a lone for all his life and when I introduced 1 female he seemed happy, 2 days later I put in another female, but this time the female that was already in the tank beat up my new female, now I have the new female in a separate tank recovering from scale loss and ripped fins. Meanwhile in the tank I have the male and female in the female is getting beat up occasionally by the male and gets chased too. How can I get them to breed? What am I doing wrong? How can I have a 4 to 1 ratio when i have females fighting? My tank is a 50 gallon with 630 gal/hour internal filtration, sand, drifwood, stones, and 2 plecos.

    Your breeder tank looks fairly small. Most info on the net says that to breed Tilapia, you need a 75g and larger tank. What size is your tank? It looks like it is only 29g. Also, how much is all that equipment costing you in terms of electricity (ball park)?

  • @LifeBuzzN

    @LifeBuzzN

    9 жыл бұрын

    Jaime Craig Don't worry about what people say, do what works for you. Yes, they are 29's, and work just fine. I use 1 male to 4-5 females. Once she has fertilized eggs, I move her to a 29 of her own. I do also have a 75 breeder tank in the house, but that's a luxury. I'm currently raising a couple of thousand adults for about $50 monthly.

I didn't realize they were so hard to catch, I'm going to need a bigger net. could you set the net in there, so they an not so afraid of it, let them get used to it, then feed them and as the come up scoop them out? honest question

    +Michael Baumann asking if a fish has gills is like asking if people have lungs. How else would they breathe?

    I have to be doing something wrong....started tank on March 23 and as of this morning no full mouth and all three females are still eating. my ammonia was at 8 bio kicked in down to 1.0 and added a few more tubes today. one female chases all the other fish around protecting her space.

    Is your temp close to 90 F? Also......do you have a hiding place for the male to fertilize the eggs? Are you sure you have only one male in your breeding tank?

    Mustard They need 84 degrees and a high PH to spawn. Could be year round if you control the environment. I like to rest my females between babies.

    Dude just for information: Cichlids have to wholes. Males have 2 little wholes, and females have 1 little and 1 big whole. Also the shape of the last whole is different between the sexes

    How frequently do they produce young? Once a month? More? Less?

  • @LifeBuzzN

    @LifeBuzzN

    The male will start encouraging her immediately after spitting out the young. If you let him, he'll exhaust her to death. I usually let 1 female go once a month. Keeps her healthy.
