Hookah pipe (with base and plate)
Hookah tongs
Hookah Hose
Phunnel Hookah Bowl

Heavy-Duty Aluminum Foil (or a heat management device like the Kaloud Lotus I+)
Fumari Poker or a Toothpick
Coconut Charcoal (Fuoco Coconut Hookah Coal)

Hello, Fumari fans. It's Ilo and today we'll go over the basics on how to set up your first hookah and what you'll need to get started. And here's what you'll need: Hookah pipe, hookah tongs, hose, funnel bowl. I'm using the Fumari rook, your favorite Fumari tobacco, heavy-duty aluminum foil or a heat management device like the Kaloud Lotus, Fumari poker or toothpick, coconut charcoal and of course the Fumari burner. You can find the majority of these items on our website at Fumari.com.
First, make sure everything is clean dry, and ready to use. Now fill your base with room temperature water. You can also use chilled water but very cold water will dilute the flavor of your hookah. One inch above the downstem is a general guideline for getting the right water level. However, every hookah is a little different and honestly, it also depends on your preference. Just make sure the water level is not below the downstem or too high above. Next, attach your stem to your base. You want the seal to be airtight so use a grommet that will be a good fit for your step. Finally, attach your hose to your hookah with a hose grommet.
So begin by stirring your tobacco so that the juices are evenly distributed. Next, use your fingers or a fork to add tobacco into the bowl. Pack it evenly and lightly until it's to the rim. You can use your hole poker or fingers to spread out and lightly pat down any tobacco so that your final pack is about one to two millimeters below the rim of the bowl. Now we're ready to foil our bowl. Use two layers of heavy-duty foil to avoid burning the top layer of tobacco. Be sure to put your foil on drum-tight and grab your hole poker or toothpick to poke plenty of holes for airflow.
If you're using a lotus or similar heat management device then you don't need to foil your bowl. Place it on top and you're ready to move on. Now you take your bowl grommet, put it on top, secure your bowl. Now let's go heat up some coal. Add three to four pieces of coal on your burner, turn it on to the highest temperature and wait for them to be halfway lit. Once they're halfway done they're ready to flip. Just make sure your coals are fully lit before you take them off the burner and add them to your hookah.

What if the bowl being used doesn’t have that hole in the middle? Just 4 “breathing holes”
Using hmd device and adding coal to it but it takes 5 minutes approx to produce smoke? Is that normal?

Yes. The bowl needs to be fully heated to start producing proper smoke and taste. I usually leave it for 5-10 minutes before starting to smoke
Could I do the same with an Egyptian / Turkish bowl cuz I aint got no phunnel at home?

We're glad to hear that tip helped you. Yes, a phunnel bowl can certainly work with a Shishbucks Cloud Micro. You many need an extra bowl grommet/gasket or two help help it fit on the bowl stem. Thank you!

All good but 4 coals?? I think 3 of the inch cubes are the best.. them 72 in a kg jawns.. also edge (width) should be coming on the circumference of the head like slightly outwards instead of the edges ( corners) .. Rest all good.. i use just one heavy duty foil.. but fumari can burn faster than al fakher so i think they used 2.. and yea funnel bowl works good with this since its a much juicier tobacco

Phunnel bowls are a must these days and with the Fumari Phunnel Bowl Standard you can always expect a good session with no burning especially with our tobacco. The coals used were 22mm and are smaller than the ones you mentioned. We now have 26mm coals and 2 or 3 will be perfect to start your session with. Thanks for checking out the video!

Certainly, and especially with smaller coconut cubes like the 22mm in this video. If it starts getting your tobacco hot, for sure take one down off the bowl. Then, add it back on later when the bowl needs more heat. The number of coals all depends on your tobacco, how it's packed, your bowl set up (type of bowl and if using foil vs HMD) and your personal preference for heat.
