    I used 2 double door crates. Removed a side door and an end door and placed the 2 crates together to form a T, then attached them together with zip ties. One side is home the other is the bathroom and it works perfectly. I did not remove either crate tray. We started this method at 10 weeks old. My Chi is now 14 weeks old and when out running and playing about the room, I open both access doors to home and the potty area. He goes into his bathroom to potty, and home side to rest or get a drink. We will eventually start to potty outside in the Spring, but for learning until fully immunized or due to cold, bad weather it's a perfect setup.

    potty training is always the hardest part. :) I think I would use all 8 panels, but make two squares with the opening in the middle. This way everything just moves well together. Unless there is a future use/idea for the crate that I don't know about yet. haha I wish I could use your Amazon store, but I can't in Canada. :( It's warming up here finally!! yea Spring!! Have a great week Kelly.

    Hi Kelly! Thanks for all your videos - they’re fantastic! I’m getting a chihuahua puppy this week. I have a habitat set up in my living room. Should a put a second habitat in my bedroom or have the dog sleep downstairs?

  • @SweetiePiePets

    @SweetiePiePets

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hello, congratulations. Either way is fine. If she sleeps in a second habitat in your room, just make sure to set it up exactly the same way the living room set up is so she’s not confused where to go potty as she goes back and forth between the 2 habitat areas. Keep in mind she’s likely to whine a lot for the first few nights as she’s adjusting to her new environment. So if she’s in your room she’s likely to keep you up all night (I recommend letting them cry it out). At the same time, it might bring her comfort and help her bond with you more quickly if she gets to sleep in the same bedroom. I wish you and your sweetie pie the very best ❤️

    Hi Kelly, last week I adopted two 12 week old puppies. Potty training isn’t going great. I think I’m giving them too much time out of the habitat and too much space to run around. I want to start fresh, but before I do, how many hours a day should they spend outside of the habitat. I just want to be sure I don’t keep them in there too much. Thank you!

    Fussing is ok, you put him in the setup that’s going to work best for your home and then give him plenty of time inside to adjust. Some whining is to be expected (sometimes loudly for several days). I recommend ignoring his cries and just let him adjust. So long as all his needs are met and he gets plenty of quality time with you during cuddle/play sessions throughout the day, he will eventually learn to be happy in his habitat crate. Just be consistent 👍🏻 you got this

    So what do you do with the metal grills when it’s full of poo and pee!? Do you take it outside and scrub it and hose it down everyday?

  • @SweetiePiePets

    @SweetiePiePets

    2 жыл бұрын

    First off, i don’t allow it to get full of pee and poo. I pick up the poo as soon as ot happens and change out the pad often throughout the day as needed. If poo does get stuck to the metal crate then I sanitize it with Rescue and a paper towel and between litters or while deworming, I steam clean it daily 👍🏻

    I have a 3 year old Chihuahua i love her a lot but she sometimes gets agrresive, ive had her sience she Was 3 1/2 months old, ive tried treats toys and everything, we recently got a little Chihuahua for my sister, my Chihuahua just stays in her bed but when my sister's Chihuahua comes near her she barks at her, see doesn't bite her but still, i hace been wanting to take her to a training place but every single dog training center is closed due to the pandemic where im from.

  • @SweetiePiePets

    @SweetiePiePets

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes it does sound like she needs some training to learn she is not the queen of the house. I would put her on time out in a crate in the other room every time she starts barking at the little one. Leave her in there for 5 minutes or so, then let her out again, but ALWAYS put her on time out immediately when she behaves aggressively. Another good training exercise is making her go belly up when she displays aggression. In dog language, the belly up position is submission. But making her go belly up can be tricky so you might want to wait in that exercise until you’ve taken her to a trainer. Hopefully things will start to open up again soon so you can find one. I wish you the very best.

    Hello, I have a question. How do you stop your puppy from chewing on puppy pads? Because I try to let my puppy go potty on the pad. But she keep on chewing, the pad.

  • @SweetiePiePets

    @SweetiePiePets

    3 жыл бұрын

    Good question. See how I put the metal crate on top of the potty pad? The weight of the crate holds the potty pad down so they can’t play tug of war with it. Sometimes they still chew on it a little but usually a small puppy cannot rip it up completely if you put a heavy metal crate on top of it.

  • @renitamosby4157

    @@SweetiePiePets Tysm I already did that. But when I take her out the crate, to play. And if she can't make it to the cage, should I just put no pad down outside the cage?

  • @SweetiePiePets

    @SweetiePiePets

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@renitamosby4157 no I recommend that you only make her bathroom area be in the one place all the time. When you take her out to play, I only have her out for a short amount of time and keep a close eye on her the whole time. If you ever notice her squatting to go P or sniffing around like she needs to go poop then quickly pick her up and put her back in the potty crate and let her do her business. If she makes a mistake outside of the crate just pick her up quietly and put her back in the crate and clean up the mess. Don’t scold her. She needs to learn that she goes potty in that crate all the time. Eventually when she is older you will be able to remove the metal crate and just leave the potty pad there

  • @SweetiePiePets

    @SweetiePiePets

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hello. First off, don’t lose hope. With consistency she will eventually get it. So have you set up her habitat area as my video demonstrates? They’re most likely to have success if they only have 2 options where they can even go. That’s why the method works so well. If she’s only able to get into the potty crate and the bed/den crate, she’ll be most likely to leave the den fir her bathroom needs, making success inevitable. If you do have her set up that way and she’s pooping in the den crate, then don’t scold her, just clean it up as soon as it happens and wash her bedding so she never smells the poop in the den crate. Be consistent with that and eventually she she’ll inevitably end up pooping in the potty crate. When she does give her tons of praise and maybe even some treats (but only if you see her in the process). If it’s several hours later, she won’t know what she’s getting praise for 😆 Just be consistent, keep her in that setup except when you’re explicitly watching her. When you are, if she starts sniffing around for a place to go, put her in the potty crate immediately and talk softly telling her to “go potty”. She’ll eventually understand
