I have a Chihuahua rescue and I love her!!! She's a senior rescue and was trained and cared for very well! However she's very very shy and doesn't make friends with other dogs or people. That's not a problem since I'm also a senior who is retired and lives alone! We're a perfect fit!!!

My rescue & I are both Senior’s too! I absolutely love this little dog, I’ve always had Great Danes until her! ❤ She’s something else & never even barked until she was 9years old….

I love my Chi. She is the sweetest and most affectionate pet I’ve ever had. I am 65. I love this little dog. I had no idea that these little pups were so sweet and adorable. She’s always at my side and if I leave for even 10 minutes, she is so glad to see me, she has to lick my face for 5 minutes. A very unique and intelligent pup she is.

My neighbors dumped their chichuhua on my husband and I. She's very protective of me now. She sleeps on my lap and in my bed laying right by my side. We would not trade her for anything.

Ive had six chihuahuas throughout my life. I have two right now. I could probably come up with 500 reasons why chihuahuas are the best dogs ever.

I agree with you 💯 percent. I HAVE 2 RESCUE ONCE . Ive had them for 14 years, there only 6 months apart n there the love of me and my husband life. Were 76 years old and we love our babies!!! Thank got we RESCUE them !!!

I’ve had them for over 35 years, they’re fantastic little dogs, I’m so sick of people being nasty (on social media ) about them, calling them evil, demos, devil dogs, they haven’t got the sense to know that they are , or can be very fearful and that’s why they act aggressive, these people are encouraging people (who own them) to abuse them because they believe what they read and chastise, hit them for growling which just makes them even more scared and aggressive 😢

My Gizmo is 3 now and he’s been the best pet I’ve ever had, so loving and affectionate and being my partner in crime/sidekick is his favorite thing to do!!

My service dog passed 4 months ago. I got a chiwawa rescue yesterday. It's not at all a replacement for my service dog, but it is helping me immensely with the severe grief-stricken state I was in. I said that I was fostering him, but I think I knew on the first night that he's going to be mine.

I have a chihuahua, and I most of lucked out. He is lazy, loves everyone that comes to the house, and 10:30 only barks when the doorbell rings and at the tv. He is very well behaved.

I've had 8 Chihuahuas. Two of them are still with me. One is a rescue and is very jealous of anyone but him sitting in my lap. I find this breed very lovable and easily compatible with other dogs. A WORD TO THE WISE: DO NOT LEAVE A CHIHUAHUA OR OTHER SMALL BREED UNATTENDED OUTSIDE. A bird of prey, such as an owl or hawk, etc., can easily pick them up and fly off with them for their next dinner. I've known of 2 families that had this horrendous thing happen to them, never to see their tiny pet again.

I just had to put my male chihuahua down he was 20 or 21 years old I have a female and she is little over ten years old they are great dogs but they can become very jealous of other pets

My chi is my best friend. God sent her to me. I know it.

As a family we have 3, they do take extra care but they have great natures, so smart and get on well with our japanese spitz & cats. They are playful and heaps of fun.

I have a chi . She gets along with my dutch shepherd , pitbull mix and a cat . In fact she runs the household so the other dogs and the cat listen to her . One thing I have never done is taken the chance and left her alone with them . She goes everywhere I go just to be safe . I don't think her sisters would hurt her because they're so close but you never know .

I got one who is going on four months old and he is a holy terror right now. I've been working with him and have taught him to sit....with a treat but when he gets the zoomies, all bets are off. But he has been showing signs of becoming a little watch dog. He alerted me to someone creeping around at 2am and woke me up. I am hoping that he does begin to mellow out after a few months. I love the little fella. But those zoomies are something else. Wow! He's like trying to catch a chicken!

Sounds like bad training. Chihuahuas are the most loving. The worst ive had is a little growl when she sleeps and i move her. My other one, god rest her soul.. she wouldn't ever even growl when i bugged her. She and i had the strongest bond. Now strangers ya they gonna be mean.

Rescued a Chihuahua when I had three Boxers and I took it straight to obedience class and it took NO time at all for all three, young playful, rowdy Boxers to know that the Chihuahua was one of them. Never had any problems BUT I did keep a watchful eye if they were in small areas as Boxers, who are very energetic and stompy, COULD stamp on fragile legs. Learned in obedience to let that Chihuahua walk on the ground like a dog instead of carry it around, which could make them overly protective/aggressive. Great breed but can be barky if you are in a close neighborhood.

As a lifelong mini Dachshund owner (5) I ended up rescuing a Chiweenie (mix Chi and Doxie) OMG this little girl is amazing!! The barking issues with these 2 breeds are on the owner. If you can train them and show they are secure with you the barking should be minimal. I had my Chiweenie for nearly 3 weeks now and my neighbors didn't know I had a new dog. Door rings she will bark but I say 'stop' and she does!. I had 2 mini Doxie who passed not long apart and was so heart broken. My new Chiweenie's amazing, best of both world, really. But, I always loved Chihuahua too so I am enjoying my 50/50 little beauty.

I've had a weener and a chiweeny, sadly both gone now. I would give all I own to have them back. All my dogs have loved me so much because the more love you put into a dog the more love you get out. I currently have a chi and a xoloitzcuintli = Mexican hairless dog. I wouldn't part with either one for any price.

It's hard to respond for most people, other than to say that we hope your pup will be remembered for the bond you had and how special to be able to end your story together. It's a little ironic that the time they need you most is the time you let them go. I've come to feel that the best way to honor them is to take what you've learned from them and pay the love forward to the next. Of course, the down side to that is learning how deeply spoiled the next one can be.

HueHuees aren't dogs. They're smarter than we are, and they're our boss.

Last year i was given a 2yo female longhaired chi and she was completely potty trained and was great about letting me know she needed outside. Problem was she required a 30 minute walk 3x a day. I meanif it was just a quick stroll like 5 mins or if we stepped right outside the door, she would defiantly look me in the eyes and rufuse to do her business! Then 2 mins after coming in id find a puddle in one spot and a pile usually in a spot a foot from where i sit!! Plus I couldnt find a kind of dog food she would eat and i spent a fortune on treats she wouldn't eat. So the Bitch had ta go!!

She was smarter than you are, ha ha. She knew that if she peed and pooped outside right away then you would take her back inside and she wanted to stay outside longer. After you took her back inside she no longer had any incentive to wait so she would go right away. As for treats, she was testing you to see if you would buy her something tastier. Why eat jerky intended for dogs when you can have jerky intended for humans that tastes better? Some dogs will eat almost anything, others have been spoiled into being very picky. She was probably treat spoiled by her previous owner. It takes a lot of time and patience to get a dog to do what you want, just like it takes a lot of time and patience to get a child to do what you want. A baby is not born wanting to please you and neither is a dog. You have to encouage them by rewarding them when they do please you, usually with a big display of affection. Dogs that are treat motivated can be encouraged by treats but others are motivated by big displays of affection.

Why?

My advice for Chihuahua and other small breed dog owners is to litter train your pet, as opposed to training them to go outside. As it is very easy and much faster to litter train your pet. Other advantages to litter training your pet is your pet never needs to go outside. Thus, there is no need to give your pet poisonous flea and tick products or heart worm medication. You also don't have to worry about your small pet being attacked by a larger and more powerful animal. You don't have to worry about leaving your pet alone for extended periods of time. You won't have to worry about setting aside the time it takes to take your pet outside to eliminate. Lastly, you won't have to worry about the weather. If it is snowing, sleeting, raining, too cold, or it being too hot. All of those concerns are eliminated when you litter train your Chihuahua or small breed dog. Moreover, I recommend the litter material be pine pellets which you can purchase at Tractor Supply Company for $7.50 per forty pound bag including tax. As you will use about three bags a year. Why pine pellets? Because it eliminates virtually all odors and I recommend flushing all solids down the toilet as soon as you see them. I constructed a litter box from a 24 x 18 inch plastic container with 15 in high sides that I purchased from Walmart for about $13 dollars and some change. I then cut out an opening on one side of the container big enough so my Chihuahua can enter and egress it easily at will. Then once I did that, I added a one inch layer of pine pellets to the floor of my new litter box. Next, I pushed the opening side of the new litter box to the opening side of the 24 x 18 dog crate I also purchased and budded them together. In the doggy crate I put a pet bed, blanket, some toys, and a dog water bowl and a food bowl. The idea was my pet would live, sleep, and play in his new doggy crate and then eliminate in the litter box. You know what, it worked perfectly. As in a matter of three weeks, my Chihuahua puppy completely trained herself to always use a litter box to eliminate. Oh yeah, I also purchased a sifting litter box that I use strictly for cleaning my doggy litter box in which I do every seven days .When pine pellets are urinated on, they disintegrate into saw dust. Thus, once a week I poor the contents of my doggy litter box into the sifter and then sift the sawdust that was generated into the litter box below the sifter. When all that remains in the sifter are only pine pellets, I then empty those still good pine pellets back into my doggy litter box and add a couple of scoops of fresh pine pellets to replenish the used pine pellets. Lastly, I dispose of the sawdust in the trash, as it is odor free. 1
