My service dog is a blue nose and every place I take him people will cross the store to come and love him up. Vicious breed my ass. He just pours out love to everyone. He's well known in California Walmarts because we shop daily. If you're ever in a southern California Walmart come and say hi to porkchop. He loves the attention.

My darling little chihuahua x staffy is my constant companion. We live on the edge of the Australian bush and he always chases the kangaroos. No fear all at. I have little mister Winston Furchill, he’s almost 6 months old and incredibly smart. He was the one who began playing fetch and giving me the thing to throw for him to get. I wrapped him all up totally in a blanket and made it hard for him to get out just to see how smart he is. He got out of it in 1 minute. He’s gorgeous and looks like a brown teddy bear. He’s slim trim and is so much fun. I cannot put his leash on him he runs and hides, but if he gives me the leash he’s ready to go for his potty walks. I buy him puzzle games with tiny treats in them and it takes him mere seconds to figure them out.

Couple things ... first, any source I've seen places average age of the American Akita at 10-14 years. Not saying it's never happened, but I would be shocked if one lived to 25 years. Second, "harsh" training this dog will get you an Akita that does not trust you. And if you lose an Akita's trust and respect, you got problems. Firm, consistent (and constant) training is the key to this breed. I have found that any behavioral problems I've had with my Akita can be traced directly back to me getting lazy in my leadership. Finally, the last word I would use to describe ANY Akita I've met is "hyperactive." Up to about 2 years old, they can be quite active, but once they mature they are just as happy lounging around and conserving their energy. My Tomodachi is the best dog I've ever had. He's been, and can be, a challenge at times but his devotion and loyalty are unmatched. One final thing about an Akita (and any Northern Spitz breed for that matter) ... their purpose isn't about pleasing you. They will love, be devoted, and protect you. It's just built on mutual respect and trust.
