How to Set the Perfect Delay? 5 Settings You NEED To Know! (No Tap Tempo Required)
Музыка
In this video, we're talking all things delay... delay... delay! And more specifically, we're looking at five tips for getting the most from 'analog-style' delay pedals. You know... that simple, three-knob, single-footswitch delay stompbox you purchased as a teenager. (It's probably kicking around in storage somewhere!) So let's bypass that complex, supercomputer, delay workstation for a minute-it's time to get back to basics!

Great demo of options for use with this delay pedal in an acoustic setting. My delay pedal will be arriving today and now I know what to try out on it!!!!
Wow great video! You did a really good job of explaining what each setting did and how to achieve it. These really sound like their own effects, not just different lengths of delays. I will definitely be trying these out on my pedal today, thanks!

This is less 'delay' than it is 'reverb' (I was looking for something for wilder settings sans tap tempo) that said... I absolutely love how you've used delay in this manner, as I've forgotten about doing this for a long time.. Gonna go try these now!!

Very interesting video. I have an original Carl Martin Delayla without tap tempo, and a Carl Martin Delayla XL with tap tempo. The XL is on my pedal board and used all the time. I never thought of using both like you suggest, so I'll be adding the the older Delayla to my pedal board. Something may have to be kicked off to make room for it though.

Wow, excellent video, thank you so much for doing i!!. Beautiful playing and very well presented. I believe it has helped me a lot, I am about to try some of these settings. I have been scolded and pummelled too many times by bandmates complain bitterly about how my delay is throwing them off! All that I am trying to achieve (so far until I saw your video, unsuccessfully) is a nice full bodied echo tail just to give my electric guitar some depth in solos and rhythm...

Awesome! I'm glad you found the video helpful. All the best with your delay pedal adventures ; )
I bought a digital delay several months ago and just been looking at, wondering why. I started playing around and watching vids like yours. Nice job of explaining some settings. Main problem is those mini pedals have no tap or timing marks. Could do a timing and a few reference marks but I like a couple of your ideas of an all around effect out of it. I combine it with some spring reverb and it starts to really sound like something. Im sure I could do some out of space freaky solo thingy with it before but its hard to use and concentrate on your playing. Really have to be in sync with these things to be eddie van halen and Cathedral.

Nice! Sounds like you've been experimenting. I wouldn't stress too much with the tempo sync side of things. As a general rule, if the delay is feeling a little distracting, either turn it down or shorten the repeats. Best of luck ; )
I have been wondering how to make these pedals work. Thanks!

Hi there ! Great and useful video showing some nice subtle tones that aren’t cluttering the overall sound ! Can you help me please with the Zoom G3xn I am using ? It doesn’t have tap tempo and the dials are in milliseconds 😱😢. I need to create some ambient swell sounds but just can’t achieve it on my Zoom. Best regards - Eddie a UK Follower of your channel. ❤

No worries. Ambient swells are about a longer delay time with long repeats. (Try 375 to 500 ms, adjusting the repeats to taste.) It also helps to feed the delay into some ambient reverb, if the Zoom can do that. Hope that helps.
Nice and helpfull! Thanks. What type of pick up are you using for your acoustic guitar in this video?

Cheers! I'm using a Maton EST60C with the original AP5 pickups on board. Also, here's a rundown of the full pedalboard I'm using: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mnicp9lrpNSYc5M.html

@@arischalastanis9743 It's a little Fishman Loudbox Mini.
Sometimes my delay makes my tone too muddy, so I just turn it off. Also I don’t use any long delays because I don’t know how or what to use them for. I have the Fender Reflecting Pool and it’s capable of so much that I never use.
Hey I'm looking for a portable (battery powered option) stereo delay pedal to use portably with a digital piano to make it sound like an acoustic piano being played outside. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you're actually looking for a room reverb pedal. Perhaps check out the 'TC Electronic Hall of Fame 2' for a good, relatively inexpensive option. Hope that helps ; )

Thank you- I like your acoustic chops...Problem...That pedal is expressing time as a %?! No, Feedback is expressed as a %!...The Repeats dial is Multi Tap delay...you provide good applications, but anyone using say- an '80's (but excellent) rack unit like the Alesis Quadraverb Plus, or even a modern Fractal Axe EFX III, gets confused with your nomenclature...
Great explanation. You just should have used a pedal that we could easily read the knobs functions. Would be more easy to understand.

If you listen on the first Van Halen album, Ed uses a slap back on his echo pedal and then they have reverb. They actually had a reverb chamber built into the wall of Sunset Studios.

You should search for images of Capitol Studios underground reverb chambers that were built in the 1950s. I heard Tim Pierce telling stories about it. The basically built this multi-room underground bunker.
