How To Separate Succulent Clusters to Propagate Fast
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Succulent clusters are the fastest way of propagating succulents. But separating them can be a problem if one doesn't know at which time to separate them, as one can end up with a lot of dead plants. This video shows many examples of different growth stages of different succulent clusters and how and when to separate them.

I recently retired and got bored one day, so I ordered 30 various succulent cuttings.. while I waited for their arrival I took a KZread crash course On what makes succulents and cactus happy.. The first thing I learned was if you can't grow succulents or cacti, then you need to buy silk and plastic plants.. lol. I've grown many types of plants both indoors and out.. Just nothing ever this easy.. I could lay it on a rock and it would grow which is a perfect plant for us older folks.. My plans are to grow for gifting to family and friends, churches, hospitals, schools, construction workers, or basically to anyone with a good heart that gets up each day to contribute in making this great country run.. Thanks for the video. Very informative. As Schwarzenegger said.. I'll be back..lol

Hello. So happy to have found your channel. Very helpful and especially impressed how knowledgeable you are of the names of all the varieties of succulents. Do you have any videos regarding using grow lights? I have grow lights on my succulents and keep the lights on 24/7. Am wondering if that is a good or unnecessary approach. Your little feathered buddy is s cutie pie. Love his little feedback in the background and him talking to the wheel on the chair was adorable. Thank you

Chicken grit is the same as decomposed granite and you can get it really easily at any ranch/garden store...and it doesn't absorb moisture like cat litter...just a thought.
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK
Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info Brea. I've been told by a few people that in USA and some parts of Europe, Chicken Grit is made up of decomposed granite. Unfortunately, I don't have any way of confirming this because here in Australia, the Chicken Grit that's being sold for calcium deficiency in chickens are made up of calcite and limestone. It can also be really expensive for around $25 for a 5 kilo bag. Best buying the Maifan Stone (Chinese decomposed granite) for $35 for a 10 kilo bag. Decomposed granite if available is $75 per cubic meter.
@robinchubak7747
Жыл бұрын
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK Yes, chicken grit is granite but it's certainly not decomposed. It's tiny stones. It provides no nutrition to fowl, it helps them digest real nutrients that are in chicken feed. For use in potting mixtures it holds no moisture, only provides space for air and roots. There are many types of chicken feed that are probably confused with grit but anyone in a farm store will set you straight. Today I purchased 50 pounds for about $30.00 and it will last me a long, long time. I'm in Virginia, in USA.

Loved this video! Can you tell me why you soak them, When and for how long? Ty!
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK
Жыл бұрын
After being dry for a while, the plants are dehydrated and soft. If planted straight into soil, it will take them a long time to recover and have a higher chance of dying. Soaking them hydrates them more so that when they're planted in the soil, they can continue to grow. Soaking time depends on how soft or dehydrated the plant is. Most of the time, overnight soaking is fine.
Very beautiful and nice ❤😊

A lot of my succulents I bought from Nurseries and garden centers were not colored at all. They took time to grow into what they are now. Most of the ones I have can be found online especially on Facebook Groups and sellers. If you're in the USA, you can actually import them from China and Korea and are much cheaper that what we pay here in Australia. Good luck!

Depends on the plant(succulent name), area you live in, outdoors or indoors, planter/pots to use; will determine the type of soil mix. Because of this, I use different soil mix. I have a few soil mix video link below this video in the description box.

Depends on the condition of the plant. Some I only dunk for a couple of seconds. Others I soak for days depending on how wilted the plant is.
What kind of solution you put for the new plants & what kind of soil we use coz i have a new succulent given to me but the small were dying
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK

I use liquid seaweed. Any brand will do. Worm casting juice diluted also helps. With new small succulents, best to not water them and just lay it on top of the dry soil to root up and reach the bottom of the soil where it should be moist to encourage fast growth.
Hello maam Lizk,how do i care my succulent, they are all dying bec. It is winter here in Japan.
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK
Жыл бұрын
Considering that they are planted in a suitable soil mix; only reason I can see might be overwatering. I normally don't water my succulents during winter unless they are indoors and getting plenty of light.
How long do you soak in seaweed solution? And do you dilute the solution with water? Thank you
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK
8 ай бұрын
Yes it's diluted in water. Half the recommended dosage. I usually soak them until the bottom leaves plump up. Some can take hours and others days.
Liz, should I buy an indoor light while they are starting? I'm in WA State. Cooler during half the year. I do have a good window for light, but what temperature should the house be? Is 70 degree okay? My succulents are mainly for gifts, indoor plants.
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK

Depends on the succulent but most do grow faster if given more light. Some actually go dormant when it's too hot. 70°F is a sweet spot for most.

I want to buy some form of start up kits. With the blues, pinks etc. Any idea where I would go to learn the best to buy for indoor, WA State, NW USA. Not sure which "type" to focus on while I'm learning.
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK
Жыл бұрын
There are so many types of succulents and have varying needs but a lot of them prefers to be grown outdoors; or if grown indoors, have to be taken out every couple of weeks to soak up some light. Otherwise, providing a grow light will help. There's plenty of info online to help you with your choice of plants but the best place to learn is to go through online succulent stores to help you pick which plant you'd prefer. Best of luck. Cheers

Depends on how dehydrated the plant/succulent is. Since there are many different genera of succulent, it pays to know the specific plant and condition of the plant to exactly know how many hours/days it will take to rehydrate it. This video features mostly Echeveria. Some Echeveria can be soak for weeks and some can't.
