    Awesome video again, Rob! This is definitely one of the best videos I've seen about selling web design. It's such a helpful framework to guide the relationship towards a sale and successful client relationship, and positions you as value-based option from the beginning offering a thoughtful, considerate pricing by taking into account the needs of the client.

    Hello Rob, I had 2 question 1. How do you convince a client that the website can get them more customers ( if the client is already an industry leader and gets tons of customers through word of mouth and just wants a digital brochure as a website )? 2. How do you convince the client the benefit of following the latest web design trends ( if the client wants to follow backdated design of another industry leaders website, which was probably last designed in the 1990s)

    1) The main ways are showing them you have done it for similar businesses in the past (past results) and the other way is showing them clear potential to get better results. You can show them this by asking good questions to find gaps where they are clearly losing customers. ^^^ Example: They do a lot of sales presentations but they don't have good information that sales on their website > so the website doesn't help them if a potential client checks it out after a sales meeting > losing customers (massive potential for you to help them). You want to ask good questions > look for BIG gaps where they are losing sales and potential leads > show them you can help fix these. 2) I don't talk much about design. I focus on what actually matters for their business. They want X design? Why do they care?? Will this actually help their business or are they just focusing on things that don't matter. Design is important but by itself, it doesn't help sell. I don't pick a dentist or a doctor cause they got the best-designed website, I pick the one that is best for my NEEDS. So keep your clients focused on what they should be saying to their customer and how they are selling. They should leave the design up to you or at the most give you some general suggestions. A client too focused on design is a big red flag. They will want a million changes and don't have a clear goal for the project ("looks good" is not a clear goal). I avoid clients who don't need my website for their business. If it is all about the design I pass and find another business who badly needs some real help.

    @@FoxWebSchool "A client to focused on design is a BIG RED flag." Perfect words, i usually say this along the lines you said. "Hey mr. Client if i wanted a good looking website i would do art, and painting. So I built website's for businesses to generate traffic and leads to make your phone ring. So you can close on your potential client. " But sometimes is nothing bad to let your client pitching in with ideas and suggestions. If is bad then try to inform them why. By showing past results why is bad design. 🍻

    Hi Fox, awesome content, tons of value for me, who is just starting this adventure. Like You've said, good idea is to make video on how to make Budget for the project (what parts of the project cost this amount, others cost this amount), so you prepare sth like this, when a client can resign from some parts to get better price or its unchengable, as your project is a whole? Second question: What a project plan consist of? You could show us a real-world exemplary project that you've made. Third question that I think have a lot of beginners: How business problems can be resolved on the website? What do you recommend for example. for better informing people about ofert, or for better generating new clients, what types of web design tools you use to achieve it. Perhaps it often depends on the client you work with, but could you prove us some examples, so we can get a better picture of it? Thanks again, I hope You're gonna think about videos on these topics!

    Just start small and then build fast. It is fine to begin with some local projects for your family, friends, or connections. Get them results (make sure you focus on actually helping them - not just making a website) and then you will feel much more confident when reaching out to others. It takes a little bit of time to develop the skill of seeing who you can help the most but after a few projects you will progress a lot. Just make sure your websites make a real difference and solve real problems.

    I could easily do a full video on this but a quick version: - thank them for their time and the call: "Thanks for the call and taking the time to talk..." - recap the main value points you uncovered/talked about: "I wanted to start this email with first going over some of the main points we talked about..." - give them your professional advice: "When I look at all of this together I see a lot of potential to..." (keep this about the BUSINESS AND RESULTS, not about code and design stuff) - talk about what you would like to do to help them: "With this in mind I think the best way for me to help you is by..." (again keep it overview and don't get into the technical details. Say things like "I want to work on improving how you communicate with your potential customers so we can boost sales", Don't say things like "I want to build you a 4-page website using wordpress" - talk about the budget you think is best to complete this work and get them results "For me to help with this and get the best results I would like to work to a budget of $4,500. This will allow me to..." (again focus on what this budget allows you to do for THEIR business, not what it means for your business) - give them instructions on how to move forward OR how to contact you if they got more to talk about first "If this sounds good I attached an invoice. Just pay the deposit and I am good to start right away. If you got any questions first though just reach out and we can..." - thank them again and wrap up the email. --- Overall > show the value, show the potential, show them how you can help and what you want to do, state your budget, give them clear instructions on how to work with you.

    Hey Rob - Does living in Poland hinder your ability to get remote gigs in North America, especially when you sent out cold emails in the past? (I assume the clients realize that you're not working from North America at some point, either in the original cold emails or when you talk to them on the phone.) When I send out cold emails, I include my overseas office address in my signature so they know upfront.

  • @FoxWebSchool

    Nah no one cares too much these days. As long as they can see that you have helped clients similar to their business - that is what matters most to them. In your emails just make sure to focus on what value you can offer them specifically. They will care a lot more about "what is in it for me" than where you are based. The more relevant and valuable your email the less focus on you personally.

    So when you say you are fixing problems, how is that? Through SEO, custom code, plugins, etc? Or is it bringing the client up to a better understanding of how web design fill's some of those roles in general?

  • @FoxWebSchool

    @FoxWebSchool

    4 жыл бұрын

    Good question. Maybe a full video on this would help. Value is added by understanding ways to remove these problems and get things flowing... So for example, if the problem is "clients don't know what we do" > then the solutions could be things like SEO, great copywriting, good design that gets them relevant content fast, pictures that help sell and look professional, and so on. It will be different for every problem but it is using web design (and similar services) creatively to get them results. it doesn't have to be "more" (like more design, more pages, more plugins) - something it can be simple yet very effective. My mindset is always along the lines of "what can be done here that gets potential customers to feel secure and to take action?". I go with simple solutions first but with a lot of thought gone into what my client's customers really need (to move forward) and what will best guide them to taking action. I would say its much more about understanding your clients business, their customers, their value, and your own mindset versus how you code/design things. Mindset and understanding first, design and building a solution second. Hope that helps. Much easier to explain in a full video - let me know if you want one made up.

I'd love to have a consistent web design business without the typical "feast or famine" freelancer cycle, so that's why I asked.
