In this video, I discuss how to critique your own artwork. An aspiring artist who is serious about up-leveling their efforts will ask themselves, "how do I improve my art technique?" before they are ever critiqued by others. In order for your art to reach a level that can be taken seriously by artists and teachers who know how to critique artwork, it's essential to develop the ability to self analyze your art. Learning how to steal ideas like an artist will also help you improve your art technique, know where you are in the global conversation, and how your art innovates what has come before.
Here are the specifics of what I cover in the video:
1. Describe - literally what you see.
2. Technical Organization - elements & principles of art & design
3. Interpret - does the piece stand for or mean anything?
4. Judge - what do you think about it?
5. Technique Absorption - the take away. what are you taking away from the analysis? what techniques or styles do you want to add to your own work? I go through a Robert Rauschenberg painting I love and how I broke down his work to add elements and techniques to my own style.

I do landscapes but have decided I like to torture myself and recently (4yrs) been attempting to do abstracts. It's sooo hard to figure out what's wrong with it! Thanks for the video, I definitely need professional help but I bet others could use it- like those who know what theirs is supposed to actually be

Like your way of presentation. The abstract painting on your wall, is beautifull, the balance, construction and colours. Are you the artist? Would like you to discuss this. What do you think of the pouring paint artists? Thank you. I live in Germany.

Yes, I made all the paintings you see behind me. Although, a lot of them are unfinished lol. I sometimes have a hard time finishing paintings. As to the pouring paint artists, it seems a little too simple for me. It has intrigued me, though. I think I'll try it in a future video. Thanks for the comment!
