    I do almost the same, but after washing my grates first, I do an initial burn to get any residue from the painted surfaces for 20-30 minutes w/ the grill open, then do 100% exactly the same as you've done. The inside of the "shiny grill" becomes a golden brown and the food comes out awesome afterward! Great job here!

    Most videos say to do an initial burn after your assembly but not how long the initial burn needs to be. I’ve been searching all over KZread to find out that answer and I finally found it. Thank you so much!

    Is this specific for this type of grill? For example, why would you need to do this to a porcelain enamel Weber kettle. The porcelain enamel is like the inside of your oven. I understand using it for cast iron grill grates. But what about chrome plated stainless steel grates? The smoke point of most oils is around 300° to 450°. Barbecue grills can get substantially hotter than that, so it seems like this will end up being a a lot of smoke?

Another question, you sprayed the bottom lower shelf of the grill where Heat doesn’t even touch. Is that recommended, do I add like WD-40 oil spray there instead or stick with the veggie oil spray thru out the entire grill. Thanks in advance

    Got some Hongso Matte Porcelain enamel replacement grill grates for my Weber Grill. They are from China and who knows if the "Matte Porcelain Enamel" is for real or not but they are for sure cast iron heavy grates, but it says that in the Amazon description. it says to season them but doesn't say how. I just slapped the new Hongso flavorizors and the above-described replacement cast-iron grates into my existing Weber grill and let them get hot for 14 minutes. Is that ok? should I have washed them first, should I have put vegetable oil on them, or can I put the vegetable oil on while they are hot? (Spray), what did I do wrong, if anything? Also, there is no way I could spray oil onto the inside of the lid, it's coated with a thick sludge, which would drip off onto the food. Looking at the inside of the lid reminds me of the sludge that car engines get. I doubt there is any way to get that crap out of the inside of the Weber Grill lid, it would get everything black that I touch or try to clean it with (years of smokey suet is up in there).

  • @Lookin4LoveInAllTheWrongPlaces

    @Lookin4LoveInAllTheWrongPlaces

    This is a late comment. The reason why a lot of folks don't like the instant light charcoal or charcoal lighter fluid is because it has a heavy charcoal lighter fluid taste. It burns kinda dirty. Get a charcoal chimney and use paper or whatever to light the coal. Then dump into the grill. If done right the food has a cleaner less chemical taste. Clear/bluish smoke is good smoke. White smoke is not good.
