How to Screen Print Using Your Cricut and Vinyl | Screen Printing for Beginners

Have you tried screen printing with your Cricut and craft vinyl yet? Water-based screen printing is an amazing tool when teamed up with a die-cutting machine! This is much simpler than traditional plastisol screen printing. There are two main reasons why I love to screen printing:
1. It's faster, easier, and cheaper to make a lot of shirts with the same design when compared to heat transfer vinyl (HTV).
2. If you or your customers don't like the feel of HTV on shirts, screen printing is a great solution because it has very little texture after it's been heat set.
3. Screen printing is just as durable as Heat Transfer Vinyl
Here's what you can expect to learn in this video:

Thanks for the detailed tutorial! One thing you did leave out though is if you are using a thin fabric you want to put something between the front and back to prevent the ink from bleeding through.

I'm so glad I watched this. I watched a few other videos that had a crazy process, with tons of chemicals and having to keep the screen in the sun for like 2 days I was like whattt lol but I realize those videos were old, before the amazing use of cricut. I have been proficient with cricut and silhouette for years now, but this is the only thing I have not tried. And I feel I'm ready. Thanks

I didn't realize screen printing could be so easy! I'm one of those people that doesn't like the feel of HTV, and the designs I want to do (from personal art) align better with the process of screen printing than vinyl. Thank you for this great tutorial!

Great video, very helpful. I like this method better than htv.
Great stuff. I have a sign warehouse plotter and lots of vinyl and clear and paper transfer paper. I used to do a lot of glass etching but the trend has faded somewhat so we bought a t shirt heat press and moved on. Recently got into doing tie dyes and will use this process to do our brand logo on our shirts. Perfect solution and way easier than emulsion techniques, thanks a ton.

Great video! How does the ink do with being stretched out? With washes and stretching will the paint ever crack or chip?
@DIYAlex
3 жыл бұрын
I would say that thinner coats of ink work better if the shirt is going to stretch. Eventually yes, the ink will likely crack but that's how any old shirt you buy at the store gets if you wear it long enough. So far I've had screen printed shirts last (washed often) well over a year and they look just as good as the day I printed them! So it's good stuff!
Nice😍😇

I love your video! I'm starting this adventure to help out my husband's business! It's all new to me so I've had a couple of mess ups. most of all is how do you clean ink from bleed-throughs, so it doesn't get on the next shirt? or do you have to throw it away and start over again?
@DIYAlex
3 жыл бұрын
Mess ups are part of learning! I would wipe off the screen if you see any bleed through in between the shirts.
@LJ-ub6bi
2 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried this, but on another site one person commented that he taped pennies to the corners to keep the screens further from the shirt,so when he lifted the screen off it didn't bleed onto the shirt.
This was super helpful thank you! What do you do if you want to do multiple shirts in a row, do you have to wash in between or can you just move the screen to the next shirt?
Thank you for the beginner friendly video, do you recommendations on what crochet you used and the heat press device. I noticed those aren’t listed

Does it matter what brand or color vinyl you use in order to screen print? Are some vinyl brands better than others for this process? This video has been a great help!
@DIYAlex
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Hannah! I haven't had any issues with different brands of permanent adhesive vinyl, but I'm sure I haven't tried them all. StarCraft HD has been the easiest to work with so far!
Hi thank you so much for this super awesome informative video. I have a couple of questions, what brand of transfer tape do you use in this video? Also I am planning on using my Cricut vinyl cutter from Michael's for this project do you think that will be OK?

This is clear medium tack transfer tape from 143vinyl. Your Cricut machine will work fine regardless of where it’s from!

I have been trying to find a video like this for the cricut for so long thank you!! Is screen print better then the iron on method with heat? An does the screen printing work if you make/draw your own design?
@DIYAlex
2 жыл бұрын
I’m so glad it was helpful! I think iron on and screen printing are both great methods, but there are some key differences. Check out this video for comparison: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qXml3NytecWqpbA.html Also yes, you can draw your own designs and cut them on your Cricut machine.
